SWAC, Tops in Football Attendance, Near Bottom in Basketball Attendance


Are they basing this on ticker sales? If so then it may skewed because at GSU students show IDs and I know for a fact the young lady taking tickets does not have a counter in her hand.
 



A&M does "alright" with student attendance for the bigger games, especially on the weekend. ASU, Southern, & Texas Southern are usually Saturdays, women at 5:30 and men at 7.

Student football attendance is atrocious unless it's homecoming.

If JSU would have gotten billups over Brent JSU would definently be winning. He a basketball mastermind if you leave him alone. Carolyn Myers just feared not having control over him. He's no puppy, you better ask Stanley Blackman but if you leave him alone and let him run his team he'll make you veeerrrryyy happy.

We all enter SWAC play with ugly records but your three games (sometimes all in one week) are a day after New Year's basically with PV-TSU, SU-GSU, JSU-ALC and MVSU-UAPB all playing each other....the one time to get them excited early on no one is there

time they are back in with no Holidays the first half is basically over and your banking on them coming with a bad record

Not sure about your school but students come to ours on Mondays.....Saturday afternoons are tough due to kids working that time of the year or they just want to do whatever until the night

The first weekend of rivalries were the weekend of the 10th this year.... SU (and GSU) students moved on campus during the days before that.

How well did the 2nd rivalry weekend do attendance-wise?
 
TSU and PV will sell out in February but comes in at 60% full in January

kids may move in but are they there? Most have preregistered and with internet payments, you dont have top be there until the 1st day of class so you can work and get all the money you can make

now why doesn't the community show up who lives nearby in the cities? who knows

Are the communities being marketed to by other schools? I know mine doesn't.

I know a local pastor who begs the AD to send the coaches & players to different churches to try and gain some support and fans. Half the folks in Huntsville are alums working on the Arsenal and still won't come to games. Especially the under-35 crowd. So money isn't the issue, especially when single game prices are $10 and $15 bucks.

Folks would rather stay home I guess.
 
Basketball is about winning big and winning early and got to stay in first place or be near the top long enough for fans to stay interested

Wow, didn't know this. I would think they would have super packed games with the success of the team. So winning doesn't cure everything i guess.

Winning and increased attendance don't go hand in hand.

Black folks don't turn out to a place they know other black folks won't be at. If it's not the "the place to be" at that particular time, they're NOT going. We want to be seen so we can show off in front of other folks. That's just our culture.

Two things will need to happen:

* Will need to beat a few more major programs in the pre-conference schedule to retain/peak interest

* If this guard we just signed is as exciting as his "And 1" youtube highlights that will draw interest from the student base.
 
I agree with you guys statements as it relates to wins and attendance. I witnessed it at Jackson State when I was in school and a few years back when we went 16-2 and 17-1 in the SWAC in back to back years. The attendance wasn't really there to a certain extent. The generation now just doesn't care too much about going to College basketball games. Especially in the SWAC.

However, I am from the Mississippi Delta and the Deltans will show up for a valley basketball game. LOL. one of the best SWAC basketball atmospheres. Especially when they are winning which is normally the case for them in basketball.

I like the 3 pm tip offs, I can go watch the women and men play and still have my full Saturday night to do what I want to do.
 
Atmosphere and marketing helps a lot. Some of these presidents just don't want to spend the money needed to improve the atmosphere and market the programs.
 
I prefer a night game in the delta with a winning valley....those afternoon games are hard to watch as everyone is at wal mart..lol...literally

if we gotta wait on teams beating mid-majors, then they'll never come.....

Grambling's case is easy to examine....the new arena is too big unfortunately and far away from students, the product has been hurt by APR and afternoon games....those games in Memorial Gym always had students....
 
Grambling had 18k show up for a 5 win team, If Walker gets the program turned around our attendance will jump. who will show up to watch a team with 7 wins in 3 seasons?
