SWAC ATTENDANCE NUMBERS AMONG WORST IN COUNTRY
Grambling's men's basketball team has dealt with its fair share of struggles by failing to record a winning record in 10 seasons, but the program hit a new low Monday when the NCAA announced its annual attendance report.

Grambling finished with an average attendance of 305, the lowest among 351 teams, on the heels of a 2-27 season in 2015, which included a winless campaign against Division I teams.

The Tigers' latest home average is the lowest since they joined the Division I ranks in 1978. The previous low was 852 in 2002, and the program even averaged 1,713 fans during an 0-28 campaign

Jackson State (769) was the only other Southwestern Athletic Conference school to average less than 1,000 fans per game. Arkansas-Pine Bluff led the way with an average of 2,881.

The SWAC had among the worst attendance numbers in the country, ranking No. 28 out of 32 conferences with an average of 1,585 fans — a decrease of 352 from 2014.

Ultimately, the problem can be fixed by winning, but 2013's winless season is evidence of how people will still show up if there's a market for it.
 
300 people? That's bad man. Real bad

Alcorn and Valley were really bad last year as well and averaged over a 1000
 



I've always said the swac member institutions need to better promote there basketball games including emphasizing recruiting and game atmosphere just like they do with football but of course not exactly in that level . That's one reason I was excited when JSU dedicated each home game to a school organization particularly fraternities and sororities to provide entertainment, that was start. But there must be some type of marketing efforts started. I think one year some schools ( JSU ) should included basketball tickets with football season tickets. For maybe about $20 extra, at least if you can get 8000 people in the arena from the package, you wouldn't make much money ticket wise but you could make up confession wise. It's better than what attending on a normal basic. Sometimes you have to take a hit before you can reep the benefits.
 
Until JSU Basketball teams starts winning close games then only will attendance play a part! Im so glad BasketBall season over
 
If we didn't suck we would be at the top. We always sold out we won. Hayes just ain't cutting it.
 
Honestly I wish JSU would cut strings with Wayne Brent. Great high school coach but just not getting the job done in my opinion .
 
You have three weeks of hoops where school is not in and certain schools are student driven...during those weeks all the rivals play except the bamas and that hurts

Also, teams have tipped off at 3 pm now on a Saturday and hoops is a night sport by far
 



I have always pressed GSU to learn how to showcase basketball events and do more student please activities during home games. Football is great, but it's not the only thing in an athletic department. The main thing that we have to start doing is win games. I think times are getting ready to change with Walker as the HC. This guy really wants to change the face of a once proud basketball program.

SWAC fans only care about football and that is sad. Even a losing football team in the SWAC will draw at least 2500, basketball can't get that. Folks complain about winning and losing yet some don't support even with winning. Now that piss me off.

I'm not going to lie, I struggle hard to make it to those Monday games.

I think if you're way out in the sticks this would have an impact but if you're near a population center then you need to draw those folks in. Besides, I believe most colleges already charge students for athletic events so they may not need to buy tickets.

If JSU doesn't win 10 games this year, I think the plug will be pulled on that experiment.

Like someone said, Jackson is a basketball city. You just have a Jackson area HS star sign a big contract with the Pacers. Another vet has gone back to Cleveland who is from there. A proven coach in that area could have JSU back in the SWAC title hunt in 2 years

Move some of the home games to the Monroe Civic Center and Play a game at Hirsch in Shreveport.

Off topic: Does the court at Ellis Davis Fieldhouse meet NCAA regulations?

In those 3 weeks SWAC schools probably average 2 home games per school over the entire time. Students ain't coming to games when school is IN SESSION.

I agree with that idea, but the even still must be promoted correctly instead of posting a flyer on the Internet.
