Texas Southern Withdraws From SWAC Tournament

Wow! C-Leb, I was not expecting that. Any insight on what brought TSU athletics to the decision?

To show our student athletes they will be held to a higher standard. I applaud the decision.

I know each one of these young ladies and if it happened all over again they would have handled it differently but unfortunately there's no reset button to take us back to 13:00 left in the second half.

According to what I read on ESPN, they said they withdrew because they couldn't field a competitive team with all of those suspensions.

"After deliberate consultation and review with our conference office regarding the incident that transpired on March 7, 2015, we've come to the decision that our women's basketball team will not participate in the upcoming 2015 SWAC Women's Basketball Tournament, as we would not be able to successfully field a competitive team due to the number of suspensions," Texas Southern athletics director Charles McClelland said in release announcing the school's decisiion.

Yeah, that statement was the same one included in the link posted in this thread.

Okay......nah, take the high road Herbert

Still, even if they just had 5-6 that could play, let them play. They only have one opportunity in life to do this.

I would have still let them play but that's just my two cents.

We know BH123. You want ALL our coaches, bands, student athletes, and fans fighting just to sell tickets and increase our brand.

I totally agree. There are no winners in this.

+1

I think our Athletic Director, Dr. Charles McClelland has handled this unfortunate situation with first-class professionalism. I have followed this team all season via radio broadcast and know how hard they have worked along with the coaching staff to compile a great season. I know that they wish they would have reacted in a different way and it's unfortunate that they are not able to battle for the SWAC Tourney crown and represent the league in the NCAA Tournament.

It's disheartening for our alumni, faculty, staff, students, and supporters that we will not be able to cheer our ladies to victory in the tourney. I do not condone the behavior of either team and it was a huge embarrassment to the University, conference, and HBCUs in general. However, as others have said, I hope that they learn from this and are able to redeem themselves as well as forgive themselves for their actions.

I believe in accountability and taking responsibility of your actions but I must say that I am really disgusted with Southern at this time. I have no respect for Coach Sandy Pugh and will be rooting against them in the SWAC Tournament. I think she immediately tried to play victim and divert the blame on TSU and hold her squad blameless.
