How do we treat our former players and coaches

I'm curious to know how yall schools treat yall former players and coaches.

I go to a lot of SU games but I hardly ever see any former players at these games that have played other than on HC when they all on the sidelines..I was wondering after they have played for the school why isn't that they don't come back and support the team..or is that our university doesn't treat them with maybe a discount for these games..or should they?
I mean it's not like they are in the league working.

Even coaches...I've yet to see PETE in the stands at a game of ours..hell I saw Stump the week after he was fired..
But old football players...basketball players. Coaches..why don't you see them at the games with their families
 



For me, I was more active within our baseball program when Coach Candy was the head coach. When Coach Robertson became the coach my family dynamics changed and i have not been as involved with the baseball program. Coach Robertson wants former players involved, even if they did not play for him.

I would be more involved if coach Rob was gone
 
that's the mindset we got to avoid as you know if you think like that, there are tons who also think like that and it's way harder for HBCU grads to come back and support once they stop supporting

in my experiences, you have some HBCU guys who think they're owed the world cause they had a solid college and pro career...they won't contribute a dime or anything and get mad when you cut their access off

you have way more guys who had average careers but can offer better means of support but if they're never approached or felt like was wanted, then that's where the problem lies

you think the Ohio States, Texas A&M's, Michigans, etc. are funded by the Joey Galloways, Charles Woodson;s etc. on a consistent basis? Nope, it's the 3rd string running back and walk-on backup kicker who got that good job and just loves football....

And what I don't understand about the whole situation...Our players don't come again unless it's HC but are quick to try and get in a LSU game or any other game not HBCU...I just don't get it...it's like it's a shame to come back and watch a game of the school that you played for Lol..The thing is when they played they wanted ppl to come out and support them while they were on the field but now they time is over they are no where to be found...like I said I haven't seen the so call big names in the stands at our games..and I go to a lot of them unless unless they are sitting on the visitor side cuz alot of alumni sit on that side..I have see a few 4-7 former players...no past coaches..no big time household names..for us..I'm just saying

That's not only with former athletes but regular students as well and that's what's hurting us. We don't have the numbers of an Ole Miss or LSU alum wise so when only 5-10% of us are giving back... well you see the results

Dude stop it. I can name 20 players that sits in my section. You don't know what you are talking about.
 
Grambling's Black and Gold game is like the G-Men Reunion, especially now that Coach Fobbs has a G-Men Reunion that weekend, and it's nothing to see Everson Walls or Doug Williams at the games.

My bad bruh but 20 is not a lot of ppl...I rarely see 20 ppl that I've graduated with if it's not a HC or JSU game..but I'm just saying it could be more
 
Outta 13k - 17 k Su averages at home and 20 players? ?

Do you think it's between 100-200 old former players that's at these games??

And when I say former I'm speaking on 94 - 2012 class..Do you think we have 200 old players in AW from this group??

I'm talking about also the ones that played..that their names were said around the campus...The starters..

There are possibly more that are there but no one is out there exactly counting the former players there.

I see former players at our games all the time, home & away. Our RB coach (Keith Saine) played under Coach Hardman & has been on our football coaching staff since his graduation. Another former player under Hardman (QB Chris Robinson) also served as QB coach before taking a position in UAPB's Office of Recruitment; he was inducted into our sports Hall of Fame this past homecoming. I see quite a few of Coach Hardman & Coach Mo Forte's former players. Coach Hardman is a regular at our games, and before his heart attack, Coach Forte was too.

Whenever we play SU & GSU in Louisiana, the Moody brothers (Robert & Billy) are ALWAYS there. Whenever we play PV & TXSU in Texas, "the kid from New Iberia" Josh Boudreaux is ALWAYS there. Bill Ross was on staff with our team after graduating in Spring 2013. He married his girlfriend & moved back to Alabama. He & his wife came up to PB when we played AAMU this past season. Also, I see Brodie Heflin & Robert Pena (former kickers) and Rontrell Bailey (he was on staff with football & basketball). I've seen Raymond "Lil Webbie" Webber at a few games & Terron Armstead has made it back home once (during basketball season).

Most of the former basketball players (that I can recall) live out-of-state but when our boys won the 2010 SWAC tourney & play-in game, just about all of Coach Steve Smith & Coach Harold Blevins players were there (Tony Ross, Fred Mays, Mike Anderson, Kevin Soward, Calvis Craig.....)

20 that sits in 8 west, the section I sit in. I see alot around campus tailgating. You don't know what you dont know what you are talking about.

:smh: who sits around a counts players. But yes I see plenty in that age group.
 
For me personally, I played in a weird era so we have always been sort of out the loop. The Bell signees aren't really embraced by the blue bengal/former player universe. I have given a few checks to the tiger fund though. A few of my old teammates are pretty involved with the program though. I try to catch a game or two or a year and that is about it.
 
We all get some players back, but lets not play stupid folks. HBCU's have a clique crew. HBCU's do alienate folks at our schools. We have a uppity problem and if you aren't in the cliques they act like you ain't shyt. The reason our alumni don't give back is because we all have a communication problem at our schools that could get better. HBCU's gotta get better at treating all their alumni like they mean the world to the University. Not just a specific crew. We have a problem, and the best way to get past a problem is for HBCU's to acknowledge our short coming when it comes to alumni relations.

Older players are in the mix of what our fan base is..I'm speaking more so on the generation that just came out 2000 -2013

I included 95 -99 teams because we had some good players that I was able to name..but i don't see them...I'm not looking for them but it dawns on me that I don't see folks until the HC game..ppl do what they want to do lol..ion care but i was wondering if anyone sees old former players...especially the ones that were good..etc

Be easy bruh

I was saying other than Eric Randle he is the only well known SU players that I hear about being at ALL THE GAMES..that's somewhat in my time..I'm not speaking on those players who played in the 70s and 80s..
I'm more so speaking on well known players that played in the 90s and 2000s the ones that were good made plays..outside of Randle..I don't see or hear too many that follow SU games..be physically at the games..every or most of the games..those players..
I'm not speaking about the 3rd TE who got 6 snaps in his time or the 3rd RB who played...I'm not calling them out...I'm speaking on those who broke records..scored more than 8 TD...rushed for more than 500 yards cats..

A lot of coaches once fired, will not come back that's the name of the game. if a lot of players like that coach and felt that guy was done wrong they will show their support by staying away also.

Again, we have some guys who think they are entitled and will want everything for free instead of trying to round up a bunch of folks who can help support the program.

But then, you have a lot Of guys who now have kids in high school who happen to be good players and a lot of times those guys will be caught up trying to follow their kids and if they are an fbs recruit you will never see them for quite some time.

You start doing a bio check on these good football or basketball players, You will see that their parents were the stars of the SWAC in the 80s and 90s...... But a lot of times those parents will not come around for whatever reason as if to say they don't want the kids to be recruited by our schools so the best way to avoid it is not show up at all and say you're supporting your kid

Once the kids eligibility is over then normally they will come around and will drop a line that you did not recruit my kid when In reality if we helped you out you should at least help get us in the door
