Alabama State University has found its next football coach.

Bethune-Cookman University coach Brian Jenkins has agreed in principle to take over the Hornets program, ASU trustee chairman Locy Baker said Tuesday afternoon.

"We're very close," Baker said. "It's not a done deal yet, but we hope it will be by tonight. Nothing is finalized until he signs, but we feel like we're right there."

The hire of Jenkins would be a major coup for ASU.

Jenkins is one of the hottest young coaches in all of college football, particularly in the Football Championship Division, where he's been courted by a variety of top programs. In the past few years, Jenkins has flirted with taking open positions at Southern University, Jackson State University and UAB.

Since taking over the BCU program in 2010, he's compiled a 46-14 record overall, going 34-6 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), and making three trips to the NCAA playoffs.

A few days ago, Baker told the Montgomery Advertiser that he feared ASU didn't have the money in the budget to lure Jenkins to Montgomery.

"We still don't," Baker said. "But we've had some alumni step up to the plate and make a difference."

When asked what landing Jenkins would mean to ASU's football program, Baker excitedly said: "Oooooh, what are you talkin' about? The Lord works in mysterious ways, I'll just say that."

Jenkins is making over $260,000 at Bethune-Cookman according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

I can't believe ya'll broke this news cause you were "close".

This could go bad...really bad.. and this could be the smack topic of 2014! :lmao:

I'm going to make a crazy statement...

FAMU is the "Big Fish in the Little Pond" in the MEAC. FAMU drives Attendence in the MEAC Period. No other school in the MEAC has the pull attendence nor name recognition wise as FAMU. BUT...FAMU has learned it costs money to drive to DC, Baltimore, etc. FAMU is considering a move to the SWAC.

Don't sleep on North Carolina A&T. They hold their own on the field and in the stands. If you get a chance go to a A&T homecoming or home game. Check it out great time.

Congrats ASU!!!!!!!!!!!!! Real good hire. BJ is a very good coach and should get you over the hump. We are going to welcome BJ to ASU with a good ash kicking payback in the JMC.

You're more delusional than I thought. :emlaugh:

Man, I can't wait for them to bring that team to BR. Worm may beat them worser than this year. Oh well. Quinn already dreaming on how many TDs he will score against them. So is Tillery, So is Howard, so is M.Jones, So is Menard. Well you get the picture.

When I think about it from BJ's prospective, this was a great move.
1. Bama State is a public university with lighter academic requirements and better facilities when compared to BCU
2. Way less competition in the SWAC.
3. FAMU is still the big dog in state. Soon as the curse of Billy Joes wares off it's going to be a lot harder to beat them.
4. Only thing he's giving up is living in a tax free state.

If I was his agent I would have pushed him to take the Bama State job.

:smh:

Quinn won't be facing the same special teams coordinator nor will you be facing the same defense. This season is gonna be funny. Chang boyz gonna go off and that defense is gonna do ya'll like they did TxSo and Alcorn! I shole can't wait!

Your special teams coordinator can't stop a true returner. Dudes can't do that at the big boy level. LOL. Get the fugg out of here. If Quinn makes you miss, you just miss. No coaching can stop that unless you don't kick to him.

That's a delay tactic to rub in JSU's face.

What do you have to rub in our face? Just be happy your face didnt' get cracked. But what's gonna happen when ya'll go ask those donors for that money and they look at ya'll sideways. There is way more drama to come out of this.. watch.. THIS is Alabama State where NOTHING is what it seems. This is about to be a clown show part 105.

:lmao: :lmao:

Does he know how dumb that sounds. Like his coach can guard Quinn himself. Ain't nothing JSU coaches are going to do to stop Quinn unless they don't kick to him. He ain't been stopped in 2 years but he will be stopped his 3rd year? Right.............
