The University of Michigan football team is a complete mess

Riiiiiiiight........so them making stupid ass hires had nothing to do with them all in good off either..... (Mike DuBose, Mike Price, Dennis Franchione, and Mike Shula)

DuBose was the start of the NCAA sanctions but he eventually won an SEC Championship... Franchione won but ended up in NCAA trouble... Mike Shula took over while on probation again.

He got run because the Bucs didn't win. Chip has already been to the postseason.

Chip has not built a dominant defense ever. His teams always end up getting overpowered in the end. He can get you to the playoffs but he can not get you a ring. Harbough stopped him with half a defense last week.

The Ducks were No. 12 in the country in points allowed per game when they played for championship against Auburn.

Sounds like Harbaugh

Harbough's problem is different. Teams lack the discipline needed to get a title. They make dumb mistakes and get stupid penalties. He has a better chance at winning the big one than Chip though.

The Seahawks led the NFL in penalties last season, fwiw.

Folks it's not the coaches. It's the environment and delusional fanbase. Top skill position kids ain't trying to go to no Michigan. To the fans dismay, Bo Schembechler ain't walking through that door again. Rich Rod and Hoke didn't just magically forget how to coach when they got there. They were set up to fail. Michigan is dysfunctional right now.

I agree that is part of it. That's why I thought Michigan folks needed one of their own to show them that. They are more delusional than any Big Ten fan base for sure. Uppity is what I call them.

DGTM, do you even follow Michigan's program to make a statement like that? Michigan signed the #1 RB in that nation a few years ago out of VA. They signed 5 stars WR Drake Harris and CB Jabril Peppers last year. They had verbal committs from the #1 RB in Damein Harris (Kentucky) and #1 WR George Campbell (Florida) before both suddenly decommitted for 2015. They have signed a number of other highly ranked skilled position players since Hoke has been there. His recruiting has been ranked in the Top 10 every year. Their problem is coaching and developing players. You even got poor JR agreeing with that mess.

You do realize LSU has been in the Top 5 in recruiting for the pass few years and had the No. 2 recruiting class behind Alabama this pass year, which IMO was really the No. 1 recruiting class. This year freshman class comes with the trio of Fournette, Harris, and Dupre all in one class. All Miles needs to do is beef up its linemen.

Go compare Michigan and LSU recruiting classes. Both are ranked near the top. Neither school has a problem getting talent. LSU's has the better coaching staff since Hoke can't do shat with those highly touted recruits.

Man they've gotten 2 top 100 skill guys in the past 3 years and neither has done anything yet. LOL

Another uninformed poster running. Most of Michigan's skill players were 4 star. Their problem is coaching and developing players, like I said earlier.

You just said something about 5 stars earlier. LOL

2 of those guys were top 100 players. You won't win championships when almost ALL of your top offensive recruits are linemen.

Sporadically getting top recruits here and there and every other year won't get it. Like I previously stated, LSU has gotten three top recruits in one class and one was the number 1 overall recruit in that class. And the other two were at least in the top 5 or 10 for the position they play. I think Dupre was either number 2 or 3 for receivers in that class. Michigan probably could catch up to LSU and Alabama in recruiting with the right people doing the recruiting, but right now they are behind those two SEC schools.

It is going to be hard man. I know anything can happen. But comparing what happened at Michigan to what Ms State can do is different. Michigan is no longer getting kids from the South like they used to back in the day or from NE Ohio ie Cleveland (Desmond Howard, Charles Woodson etc.) That ain't going to happen to Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M and Auburn all at the same time that will make MS State the team to beat in the SEC West. Maybe one of those schools will fall off with a coaching change. What happened to Michigan is what happened to the entire Big Ten. The black kids who were not welcomed or recruited to those SEC schools now stay home. So it is going to be hard EVEN with coaching changes to see a complete fall off. If Sumlin left for the NFL. Then Texas A&M becomes one of the hottest jobs open. Even one that Mullen would desire. SEC school with more money and resources than 2 Ms States put together. And access to a more fertile football state of HS talent. He wouldn't even have to change colors.

Same for when Saban retires. The Bama job will be coveted. Some schools will not make that coaching mistake of a hire like you saw at Tn. Plus the state of Tn HS football is not great either. So it is already a hard job from the jump. They are paying for their over reaction of running Phillip Fulmer off which in turn kept them from getting Cutcliffe to come back after they treated his former boss so bad. Florida was just dumb in hiring Muschamp. Some of these schools just may dumb hires. Ms State will just always have a perception issue for players as well. It is in our state which is not a good perception over the other states. Plus one can't run all the Alabama trophies out to show a recruit. Starkville is just a hard sell. Same for Ole Miss. Now if there was one big school in Ms like it is in LA (LSU). That program would have a way better chance of making noise every year in the SEC. Ms is just too damn small to have 2 SEC schools in today's football landscape. If all the top MS players didn't have to choose between Mullen and Freeze and went to one school. Then it would be on. You would not need that many out of state kids to come in to supplement the program. That is why LSU is always going to be tough as long as they don't hire some arsehole to run players out of that state.

Mullen has crossed over to North Louisiana, which has somewhat paid off for him.

Bane,
What skill guys outside of Derrick Green who has been lazy was really all that coming out of HS? It was not like they were getting South Florida WRs in those classes. Those classes were highly rated because of Linemen and that RB Green and some DBs they got. Go back and really look at the 2013 and 2012 classes. What WR in that class was really scary good? Also notice not one player from DOWN SOUTH like the Anthony Carters, A-Train Thomas etc. Remember Michigan used to reach down to La and Tx and even Florida a lot more. Brady Hoke has no one on staff that help him with that. Not even getting VA, MD, and a whole lot of Ohio kids like they used to. No Cali kids either.

Compare that to Michigan State recruits, Ohio State and even Wisconsin. You see Wisconsin can at least get players from Florida. Michigan has lost it's NATIONAL recruiting edge. That's why they need to hire Harbaugh or somebody with a big name and with winning tied to their resume to get kids like a Tom Brady to leave San Mateo California to come play QB. Devin Gardner is garbage. He should have stayed at WR. So recruiting is hurting them at certain positions. As much as I give GR grief about the down south thing. You got to have some players with that SEC speed. Especially when the other teams are getting players like Urban Meyer. Look at Ohio State's roster compared to Michigan's. Even Tressel was getting them players before Meyer got there. Look at that 02 Ohio State title team and all the way up until Tressel left. Carlos Hyde and Ryan Shazier is from where? Florida. Tressel recruits. Michigan can't get them guys for some reason now. S

Let's create a baseline before we continue this discussion. What do you consider top skills guys? 5 stars? 4 stars? Position ranking? Once we established this than I will list the top skill players Hoke has signed. You will be impressed once I'm done.

I though Michigan was always in the top 10 every year for recruiting.....

2014 Team Rankings
#1 Alabama
#2 LSU
#3 Ohio State
.
.
.
.
.
#30 NCState
#31 Michigan

North Carolina State had a better class then Michigan in 2014. :smh:

First I will state I was wrong with saying Michigan has had a Top 10 recruiting classes since Hoke been the coach. In 2014 there were ranked #31 as you just listed. What you are leaving out is the number of recruits signed for their 2014 class. They only signed 16 players. Only 16. That is the least number of recruits within the Top 40 recruiting classes. Michigan doesn't over recruit like Alabama. Bama signs 25-30 kids every year, but some of those kids get on campus and are not offered scholarships. A lot of SEC schools do that. Michigan does not.

JR, surprisingly you are dead wrong my friend. You and I both know Michigan is a national program and can get kids from any state. Hoke has admitted his #1 focus in recruiting will be the mid-west. RichRod didn't recruit the mid-west and the rest of the Big 10 cleaned up, especially Michigan State. Since Hoke been there Michigan has reclaimed the state of Michigan signing most of the top players who were going to Michigan State. They have made in roads back into Ohio as well. Michigan has made the final lists of a lot of the nation's top players, but surprising haven't close the deal.

With that being said, Michigan has never signed dynamic playmakers at the skill position. The most dynamic players I can think of was Desmond Howard and Steve Breston, but they weren't show stoppers like Ginn Jr, Devin Hester, or Reggie Bush. Michigan has always singed physical skill position players and those guys are currently on the roster. Their problem is coaching and the quarterback. Devin Gardner is the only RichRod holdover still on the roster and he just can't run a pro-style offense. Gardner was the #1 dual-threat quarterback when he signed. He just isn't a pocket quarterback and they should just moved him to WR or run a version of the spread to fit his skills. I was totally shocked how bad Shane Morris looked starting his second game last week. He has been in the program two full years and looked totally lost out there. But he is the typical Michigan quarterback. Once we get the quarterback position settled, watch Michigan start putting 1/2 round QBs, WR, and RBs in the league.

The 2011 class was put together at the last minute since RichRod was fired and a lot of his recruits decommitted. Hoke was able to put together a decent class. All the credit really needs to go to RB coach, Fred Jackson. He has been there forever.
