In fairness to A-Rod he got moved because they didn't want to piss off Jeter. It's without question skill wise and talent wise A-Rod without question was a better shortstop. I believe the year Jeter was snubbed that you're referring to was 2006. I agree with that. Statistcally that was probably his best year.

1. I named Bonds, Griffey, Pujols and others because in order to be considered the greatest Yankee of all-time Jeter would have have be regarded as better or equal to whomever were considered the best players of his era. And many consider Bonds, especially, better than Ruth.

2. By Jeter not moving to second or third base when A-Rod arrived, he actually hurt his team. A-Rod was a much better defensive SS than Jeter. Jeter not moving somewhere else was very selfish when there was clearly a better defender who could take his place at that position.

Yep I agree. If Jeter would have moved to 3rd and let A-Rob play short defensively they would have been much better.
 
so if Derek Jeter (that biracial angel) is the greatest Yankee, then that's like saying Kobe Bryant's the greatest Los Angeles Laker or Brian Urlacher is the greatest Chicago Bear.

We can't be prisoners of the moment. And also, only Ruth and Gehrig played before the color barrier fell. Oh and if Gehrig didn't have the disease that currently carries his name (ALS "Lou Gehrig's disease"), he would've had 3,000 hits and over 500 home runs. He stopped playing with 2,721 hits and 493 homers and a career batting average of .340. And BTW, Gehrig also won the triple crown.

Babe Ruth hit 60 home runs in 1927, mainly thanks to having Gehrig hitting behind him in that Murderer's Row lineup. Gehrig has 47 homers

Don't forget about Mickey Mantle. If he wouldn't have hurt his knees and had a ton of injuries he would have been similar to Willie Mays statistically or possibly better. Won a triple crown plus he was a switch hitter with power.

I actually think Jeter was the better shortstop of the two...especially defensively. When all of them were younger, analyst ranked Omar Vasquez, Jeter, Garciaparra, Rodgriguez in that order defensively with the offensive order being Rodriguez, Garciaparra (power edge), Jeter, and Vasquez. Which I disagreed with because I had Jeter ahead of Garciaparra offensively.

And don't forget about Bo Jackson who if he hadn't gotten hurt would be in the NBA Hall of Fame, and Don't forget Sam Bowie who if he hadn't gotten hurt...

If and a Fifth gets you drunk... Not Jeter's fault those guys didn't get to put up the numbers. Much respect and homage to the Iron Horse because his numbers were amazing, even his ability to play in so many consecutive games. Speaking of which, I guess you guys think Cal Ripken was better than Jeter too, huh? Puhleeze!
 
Ripken was the trend-setter MB. Ripken was that first big, athletic shortstop with some pop in the batting order.

BTW: Mickey Mantle had a career .298 batting average, 536 HRs, 2,415 hits and 1,509 RBI. He did set the mark for most games played by a Yankee — until Jeter passed him up in 2011. Mantle basically did that on crappy legs and joints, injuries and ailments that date back to his high school days. His rookie season, he messed his knee up in the outfield (which could've been a torn ACL). Two years before he started in the majors, the military called him in for the draft and determined he was unqualified for military service (4-F).

Dude Mantle was that dude. It's a shame that folks have forgotten. Folks talk about Jeter being a champion. Jeter has 4 Mantle has 7.

Keith Olbermann is my least favorite journalist of all-time.

Derek Jeter is certainly not the best shortstop nor NYY player of all time. However, the most knowledgeable NYY historians and fans alike have dubbed him Mr. Clutch for a reason. His last at-bat in New Yankee Stadium has solidified that.

Jeter played out his 20-year career in the toughest city in America to keep scandal out of the news. He did so with excellence, dignity, and honor, and he did it at the top of his game. For that, he should receive every accolade that can be afforded him.

He is one of the greatest Yankees ever, but of all time? I hope you don't have him above Aaron, Mays, Bonds, Bob Gibson, Pete Rose and a few others that were better than Jeter. I hope you don't have him in the same hitting league as Tony Gwynn, if you do, then you are really smoking!
