Howard Joining SWAC in fall

I understand them wanting to call Alabama home (what up jag 89 :lol: ), but seriously, what's the purpose of this? Howard must have money to blow. :scared:

btw, Howard's men's soccer is joining the Sun Belt.

All of this sounds like a strange phenomenon. :emlaugh:

The U.S. ain't watching soccer. The U.S. watched the World Cup. Ain't nobody looking at MLS games right now....

I think it's a good deal for Howard, but if I were them I would've made the home games in ATL. They have a good alumni base here and there is a vibrant SWAC alumni base and some very good soccer venues to play at. It's a little far for TX travel, but makes sense.

Along with the advantages of the automatic conference bid, didn't they elimnate some sports a few years back? This may be the sports that they have to keep to stay at D1 and Title IX.

What was wrong with them by arranging soccer in the MEAC? :noidea:

It would make sense since Alabama is the closest state with SWAC schools to D.C., but I'm sure you Bamas think they want to call Alabama home because they really like the State of Alabama.

I suppose if you are going to offer the sport, the administrators have decided to provide the student participating with an opportunity to earn a post-season bid. Most conferences would not expand the conference unless it was necessary for gaining an automatic, needed additional members for scheduling and or influx in revenue projections. After asking President Rudley what went into the SWAC Presidents and Chancelor's decision. He suggested, if we, as stewards of HBCUs, do not provide such an opportunity to another HBCU in such as situation, who would. I was like okay. Thanks!

My head scratching is more toward Howard's decision, moreso than the SWAC's decision. Howard decided to join a conference, in a non revenue sport, where their "home" conference games would be over 700 miles away from their school.

You are thinking that another conference would have expanded to offer Howard women's soccer membership. Prior to the loss of members, Howard, Delaware State and South Carolina State women's soccer programs were members of the Great West Conference along with Utah Valley, Houston Baptist and NJIT from 2009-2012.

I don't follow soccer, so that is news to me. I just wonder how these schools justify (financially) aligning themselves in conferences that are so far from them. Seems they are taking on tremendous expense.
