Re: Heat eyeing Melo?

Last night Duncan scored what....8 points? And the Spurs still won by 21.

They all buy into what Pop is preaching. Most do not. One of the reasons Avery Johnson has a hard time with these new guys. He is a Pop and Don Nelson disciple and he is hard on players like Pop is. But you have to have the right organization to back the coach and let him run the franchise. I think Pop is still a VP. I know he came down from the front office to coach the team in the late 90s. They play serious team ball.

Re: Heat eyeing Melo?

I think he would be fine if he could be in a Ginobli type of role. Or being the 3rd guy. Unfortunately the Heat have allowed Bosh to leave his inside game he had in Toronto to become this stretch 4 and they have no interior defense.

They need to gut the roster and bring back only

Lebron
Bosh ( Bosh has already said he will opt out and take less to stay in Miami as he loves living there)
Wade ( ask him to opt out for a discount to get more help)
Ray Allen ( He is cheap and as long as he don't have to play too many minutes like he is now, he can be effective. He keeps himself in good shape)
Birdman (Another one who is cheap, he is fine off the bench)

On the fence on bringing back:
Haslem (I like the dude and he plays hard. Maybe at a serious veteran's minimum he can come back)
Norris Cole ( His growth is stunted sharing time with Chalmers. I think he has some upside)
Rashard Lewis ( showed up for the playoffs, playing for cheap right now.

Absolutely let go:

Battier (He announced he is retiring for TV anyway0
Chalmers ( Dude is not good enough to be the second or third scoring option and he makes bad decisions)
Oden (Unless he improves with his knees this off season, he is just holding a roster spot)
Beasley ( Head case....they should move on)
James Jones ( nothing special about him)
Toney Douglass ( See James Jones)

They should be playing Haslem more. The Heat are getting killed in the post and Birdman is the only true post defender they have. The point guard play this series has been terrible

Re: Heat eyeing Melo?

Like Indiana, one major flaw with the Heat is no point guard or perhaps no good point guard play. The heat can cover up that weakness by having the best player in the world LBJ do his thing and they often run a system with lbj or wade running the offense. Also, I think Norris cole is better than chalmers and they also should keep james jones. Even though it was garbage time, he came in and hit a few three's last night which makes me think coach spo has no clue on how to sub and use his bench players right.

Re: Heat eyeing Melo?

1.Too many egos will be on the team..for starters..

2.. Spo isn't the coach to coach those guys..(will need a POP or another HOF coach, Pat Riley to coach all 4 of them dudes)

3. The media and off the court will play a big part in their season, which may lead to distraction and chemistry on the court (as you see with the Spurs) you have to have role players who will do the dirty work...out of those 4, noone will be doing any dirty work

4. This will be bad for the league..it's already in a waste shape with the poor teams and players, this will only make it worse IMO

I don't believe in that chemistry and too many egos nonsense. Many said when the Big 3 first got together that it wouldn't work for some of the same reasons you listed. Four NBA Finals and two titles has debunked that.

But will he do it (ego.. he already got bumped to #2. I agree he definitely needs to be a #3 behind Bosh) and will the Heat be willing to go through another season or two of 50-55 games and saving him for the postseason.

Ray Ray, Birdman and Lewis (surprisingly) are showing their worth now.

They need a legitimate young big man (starter and bench) and maybe see if Cole is going to be the man if Chalmers leaves

Chalmers has gotta be gone after Sunday.

oh ok..

you don't have to believe in it, but it lives within folks...

Them dudes have egos...and they wanna have it their way for the majority part of the times...Big 3 now will Big 4..melo and he has had his moments

Re: Heat eyeing Melo?

And who's knees are D-Wade are going to borrow? Because he is not the same player anymore.

nobody in sports would of thought Heat would get beat like this 2 games in a row at home. finals at that. wade bad knees or not. they lost by 21.

The Lakers won the championship with Ron Artest. The Bulls won three with Rodman all while putting up with his on-court and off the court "activities."

All three of these guys put their ego aside to win. I think Melo, being with other accomplished players, will do the same.

Re: Heat eyeing Melo?

Rodman nor Ron Artest (when he joined the Lakers) didnt need the ball and basically were role players...thus causing less friction on the team...Melo, LBJ, Bosh and Wade (even though he's dumpster juice) still need the ball, neither are role players..

Bosh and Wade have sacrificed a lot of shots, touches and their egos over the last four years to make this work and allow LeBron to be the catalyst.

Look at how Melo played with those guys in the Olympics in 2012. He was unselfish, a playmaker, did a lot really good things for Team USA. Shoot, this year Melo played similarly by trying to be that all-around player. It didn't work because he was surrounded by goo. I think he's gotten a bad rap.

Dude Bosh is pretty much shooting the same amount of times when he was in Toronto..

Wade shot attempts have fallen a bit, but you're acting like he went from 21 attempts to 6 attempts a game...2 or 3 shots less a game isn't much..When Wade and Bron are playing, Wade gets his shots still...

Folk, you're comparing the medal games (where they don't get paid as much) and play 12-14 games against oversees basketball team..a bunch of 6th graders to the NBA (their real jobs), stop it bruh..bottom line, name me one team that had 4 scorers like this on a team and that team went through the season like it wasn't nothing..Hell the 04 Laker squad had turmoil Lol..come on dude...Malone didn't wanna take a backseat and he was near if not past the end of his career...Gary payton as well...

These dudes these days are much more selfish and it's all about them...that crap won't work..

We're seeing it in OKC right now with a passive MVP level player struggling to share shots with an Alpha male schizo "PG". Everyone can see it won't work long term but them.

Bosh averaged 16 shots in his final two years in Toronto. He's averaged 12 in these last two years in Miami. Those are a lot of shots he's not taking over the course of two years.

Dude 4 shots a game...as I said 2 - 3 shots is not making any type of sacrifice as you claim..plus who was there in Toronto with him?? noone and he took 16, he's with Wade and LB and taking 4 less...thus letting you know he's not sacrificing nothing..4 less shots?? really dude...man and you add Melo shots...them dudes won't sit for that...especially when they start to losing.. remember it wasn't all peaches and cream when the Big 3 1st join..they were doing whatever to try and make it work...at one point..ppl were talking about trading Bosh or trading Wade...so let's not sit up here and forget how things were when they 1st joined together..you having 4 ALL-STARs on a team dude..and you think it will work?? TODAY..Plzz...all 4 wont make it together pass All-star break...one will be shipped...bosh or Wade..

Both of those guys were not shoot first guys or needed the ball. Both also were defensive stoppers where as Melo hates playing defense. In my opinion the Heat just needs Wade to take a lot less and extend his contract to he retires and Lebron and Bosh can take somewhat less. Then go out and get a young scorer. Maybe try to steal Reggie Jackson from OKC. I think he is a RFA this off season. Find them some passing big Euro who is ready to make a move to the US. They need to get some size in the front court. But PG, a SG/SF off the bench would help them. Don't know what draft picks they got but maybe they need a cat who stayed in school for a few years who is more mentally ready to come help them as well.

Bosh game was different in Toronto too. He was their star player and he played in the post a lot because he had not developed the range he has now. So his shots were also more high percentage type shots than he is taking now. Plus he was a legit 20 and 10 guy. Mr Double Double.

Re: Heat eyeing Melo?

Playing LBJ at 4..cut that out 1st and foremost....keep him at his regular spot....coaches at times over-think stuff and they started this ever since that college coach put bron at the 4 in the medal games...It was a reason for that...I really don't understand when Spo do that..I see you want a smaller line-up but what advantages are you really gaining??

Re: Heat eyeing Melo?

That was the OLYMPICS.....basically a paid vacation to play pickup games.

OKC needs to get rid of Perkins overated arse. LOL. I like Perk. But not for the money they spent on him. Then they can get rid of Sefalosha. He regressed badly this year. Move Reggie Jackson to the point and then let Westbrook play the 2 guard. Remember Miami tried that with Wade early on. Trying to make him a Combo guard that played the point a lot. Westbrook does not need to be the facilitator on that team. He is a good enough defender and strong enough to guard guys a little bigger than him. OKC makes a few tweeks and they will be fine. Also they need to draft a pure PG to play behind Jackson once they move him to a starter's role and of course they lost Fisher to retirement. Their problem is they didn't play their young players as much as they should. Lamb should get a lot minutes at the 2 guard and SF since he is long. Perry Jones III should play more. Steven Adams should start at Center and they can keep Collison since he is a hustle guy off the bench with size. But they have to find another scorer and a big to come off the bench. They have a bunch of draft picks and Perkins salary rolls this summer I believe.

Re: Heat eyeing Melo?

Not sure how melo would help the Heat at this point.... he needs a defensive-minded coach and team (bulls) so he can do his thing. Also, wouldn't it be absolutely crazy if LBJ went to the Spurs? OH my!
