points like this is why such dialogue is important. Some people never look at the big picture before opening their mouths.
If not for football, basketball, etc. most would not even be accepted at any college.

I want a son so he can help me shovel the dayum snow.. :lol: So what? I would rather we be "used" by our own than others.You think all HBCUs care about the athletes?
.
:clap:
but people like kendrick want them to get double perks.. :smh:

You think all HBCUs care about the athletes?
They want to use them for the same reasons the white schools do. At the end of the day there really isn't much difference in the mindset.
But how will our schools be able to compensate them? Our programs definitely aren't overflowing with extra cash.
How so? If all 100+ FBS schools lose 19 scholarships, that's 1900 athletes without a scholarship at that level. FCS and DII offer 63 and 36 respectively (max), so even if the kids don't sign with FBS schools, they will take the scholarships of players who would be on FCS or DII rosters.
how is that different from what goes on now? Kids get dropped all the time for more talented recruits. How many kids sitting around now who thought they were gonna get that D-1 offer that THEY wanted? I just made a simple suggestion, of course there would be other considerations to make that happen.
yeah you made a SIMPLE suggestion to take 1900 scholarships away from kids you CLAIM to be trying to look out for.. :lmao: I think you might be a Republican.
Get this kids some insurance and let them sit their azzez down. What they gonna do if they don't get paid? Quit? ok.

Here we go with this black schools care about their black athletes more than the white schools argument again....There is not a single school participating in NCAA athletics that cares about its athletes.
Before y'all start talking about revenue-generating sports should keep their money and those non-revenue generating sports be damned ... just keep in mind that's one of the arguments the "one-percenters" use against the middle class and poor.
All these conferences and schools realigning is all being driven by the dollars that could be earn through revenue sports. The Big East died as a basketball conference because presidents wanted to chase football money.
There is a reason the football coach or the basketball coach is the highest paid employee at the university. The president at Bama said Nick Saban was the best hire he made for the school. The success of these sports create interest in the school, brings in a boatload of money and impacts enrollment and generates untold dollars into the business community.
Non-revenue sports, while valuable in their own right, just doesn't have that greater impact.
Kenny Smith (during the March Madness coverage) is the first person I've heard make the argument that (if student-athletes are to be paid) those student athletes who are not playing revenue producing sports should not be paid, because they are not making money for the school. I was not aware that others had been making that argument as well.
But to that argument I'm calling BS. Because those who say athletes who play non-revenue producing shouldn't be paid fail to understand that in order to complete at the D-1 level a program is required to have 14 sports. Most of those sports are non-revenue producing, BUT without them a school can't compete at the D-1 where all of the money is made.
Here is what Calipari would do:
• Players should receive a stipend between $3,000 to $5,000;
• The NCAA should cover eligible players' insurance premiums;
• Athletes should be able to accept loans up to $50,000 against future earnings;
• If a coach leaves an institution, players should be able to transfer from that program without having to sit out a season;
• Athletes should be allowed one round-trip flight home every year.

And that's why many are suggesting or have stated that the only real way to make compensation work is for the revenue-generating sports to distance themselves from NCAA control.
.
This the price that is paid for making COLLEGE athletics a multimillion-dollar business. If these suits don't wanna consider the idea of paying the athletes, then go to a club sports model, or don't pay these coaches and ADs six and seven figures to operate COLLEGE athletics.
Its VERY different from what goes on now... Did 1900 kids get dropped last year? :lol: ..and even if they did get dropped, another student athlete was able to get that scholarship. Under your proposal, more and more kids would not have schoarships. Do you ever make a valid point when you post? What does that have to do with reducing scholarships? To me, the LOGICAL thing to do here (which I disagree with) is to guarantee the 4-year scholarships to protect the students. However, doesn't APR protect students from being cut easily? Won't a school lose a retention point if that kid is not retained and chooses to leave school? Seems to me like the NCAA might already have that covered.
And stop trying to justfify your idiotic statements by qualifying them with statements like "a lot of other things will have to be put in place to make it work". Wow.. so you give a SIMPLE solutions that needs a LOT of other things in place to make it work? Please stop the diarrhea of your fingers.
Einstein every suggestion people have made would have to have other things to considered because you are changing the current system. You can't be this dense........
The BIG 6 (SEC, ACC, BIG 12, BIG 10, and PAC 12) will be the conference who will leave the NCAA. From my sources that will eventually happen.
