How would YOU reform the NCAA?

I think the transfer rules (sitting out a year if transferring from FBS to FBS schools, etc.) should remain in place. However, the student-athlete should have the full choice of choosing where he/she will transfer to and not have to be shepherded to the school that their former coach dictates to them.

Now, the four-year scholly thing could really help someone in case of a life issue. However, if you do a four-year scholly, would you insert a "morals clause" in it like for other university personnel? I mean, if they're employees, don't they have to follow the employee guidelines (sexual harassment, drug abuse, etc.)?

As some said guarantee the scholarship 4 years and also make sure the scholarships cover EVERYTHING

If a coach signs a contract for example at Northern Illinois or Arkansas State for 4 years at 350K a year and only stays 1 year and leaves for a bigger job, any athletes that coach recruited should be allowed to transfer immediately if they wanted to. I definitely understand that "leaving on a whim" argument because Arkansas State is going through its 4th coach in 4th years and NIU I think is on number 3.

Most don't care for Mike And Mike on here but you got give them their due. They are the ones that brought light to the Bo Ryan situation and made him look really bad. By the next day, that guy was allowed to transfer to Creighton. That rule definitely needs to be eliminted

Allow athletes to make money off their likeness and put the money in a trust fond that can be accessed once his eligibility is up.

Stipends would have to be capped because if you didn't the SEC would not only set the bar high but as some have suggested with the scholarships being at 85 now and stockpiling athletes, the big boys could literally buy an athlete from a smaller school like USM or Arkansas State as they please

I disagree, they don't play 66. The NFL only has 53 and they don't play all of them.

But you are getting these kids for 4 years. In the NFL, you are only gettting most players for one or two unless they are superstars and even then, that is not guaranteed. College players need more time to develop while also taking classes. In the NFL all these players have to do is prepare for games and train. In college you have ~15 guys on their way in and ~15 on their way out. The NFL does not have that.

The NFL has tremendous roster turnover from year to year.

I don't. 66 is too low and if you have over 85 kids, they are not on scholarships anyway. They just want to play for that school. However, the trickle down effect would certainly help the non-BCS schools.

That's why I like the proposal.

You can get the same affect by controllin the over-signing. I dont' think cuttin scholarship #s is the way to go. Besides, who would be losing those scholarships? BLACK athletes.

The ONLY ban I really want is a BAN in interdivisional play.. :lol: .. all the rest of the NCAA is pretty much fine the way it is.

Here is what Calipari would do:

• Players should receive a stipend between $3,000 to $5,000;

• The NCAA should cover eligible players' insurance premiums;

• Athletes should be able to accept loans up to $50,000 against future earnings;

• If a coach leaves an institution, players should be able to transfer from that program without having to sit out a season;

• Athletes should be allowed one round-trip flight home every year.

Those kids should be on their parents insurance but if not.. very understandable that the school and/or NCAA should handle that.

As for stipends...so the NCAA would pay the stipends? not the schools? Which schools would qualify for these NCAA stipends?

I still don't totally buy into these kids getting paid. The tuition and FEES should be fully paid however.

How would you ensure players are compensated fairly without more "financially advantaged" schools gaining unfair advantages?

It's never gonna be completely equal or fair because of the disparity in how schools and league generate revenue

So explain how our schools are going to be affected by the stipend and other costs associated with this movement?

No it wouldn't, because they have instituted the "Houston Nutt" Rule (oversigning) and folks still find ways around it by grayshirting. Limiting scholarships to 66 still isn't going to stop Saban, Miles, and Meyer from having great recruiting classes. What it will do is trim the fat and make coaches do better jobs of evaluating talent, and allows for more parity in the sport.Black kids will not lose scholarships. If you can play, there will always be a school there to give you a chance to get a full ride.

How so? If all 100+ FBS schools lose 19 scholarships, that's 1900 athletes without a scholarship at that level. FCS and DII offer 63 and 36 respectively (max), so even if the kids don't sign with FBS schools, they will take the scholarships of players who would be on FCS or DII rosters.

The majority of the FCS and DII athletes need to concentrate on being students, there is no career in football for them after college.

People make this compensating players harder than it has to be.

No, you make it sound easier than it will be. You still have not said why they should be compensated. Some of these kids would be paying FULL tuition IF they even went to college.

points like this is why such dialogue is important. Some people never look at the big picture before opening their mouths.

They don't know. kendrick and pops just raising their hands to vote yes becasue some people on TV have told them some half truths and made a stupid idea look good.

I mean, i HATE seeing these black kids make money for white schools who don't give a damn about them BUT there is nothing I can do about it... They go to these schools for the perks...and the perks they get are all the perks they need.

You think all HBCUs care about the athletes?

They want to use them for the same reasons the white schools do. At the end of the day there really isn't much difference in the mindset.
