HBCUs going forward, if money is there for a stadium, build a dome.

To Clarify:

I meant taking the current stadiums we have like Spinks-Casem, Mumford, Memorail, etc. and just enclosing them, not building brand new dome all together.
We are poor so we have to make smart poor-man's decisions. We have the stands. Just have to enclose the area.

As others have said, it would cost more money to build a roof/dome on a current stadium than it would than to just build a new stadium. Heck we can't even get 50-60 mil for a new stadium so you know MS ain't spending more to dome Memorial. :lol:

As I said in my initial post, if you look at the current schools who are trying to get new stadiums or need upgrades there's only 3 (JSU, PV and Valley). Most of the other schools have upgraded/improved their stadium situation.

JSU and PV have put their plans/renderings out there and working on their stadium upgrades (Valley... we'll see what the new Pres and AD will do). I roast JSU just like everyone else but most of us from MS on here that still stay here or still go close ties want JSU to do it not only for themselves but Jackson (about 70% black) and all blacks in MS. We like nice things too :lol:

As far as MSU and Ole Piss wanting one as well... do you think with all the upgrades they've done to attempt to get their stadiums to 60-70K seats they really would scrap all that to do like Tennessee and go in debt with domes? It might make some of the necks mad for a while to see JSU get a 40K seat dome (I honestly think that if they get it, it will fall in the 35K-40K seat area) but it will wear off once MSU finishes upgrading their stadium to 70K...

Whatever size we get will depend on the size that Central MS needs. If 35-40K meets that need, that is what we will get. Even if it is 50K, that would include the suites.

Yep, my fellow HBCU alums, our schools need to go ahead and build inside stadiums. Football has changed. Its more now about entertainment than being tough. If there is one element that can be controlled at a football game, its the weather via a dome.

The SWAC Championship in Houston proves it and the article I just posted proves it. Hell, Kendrick was right about the Superbowl being a failure in New Jersey.

Inside is the way of the future. I think it is possible to transform a 30,000 outside seat stadium into a dome.

so your reason for a dome is because football is about the entertainment then go straight into weather. (seems to be talking to be talking without trying to support your position properly. pick a position and expound on it.) however, fan preference sounds more justifiable than entertainment with referring to a football game experience.

the SCG only proven weather. (i hope you're not speaking on entertainment too) also, your attached article does not support your position. Allen HS as been producing those kind of numbers(or close enough) for their home games. (we have a talked about them here before with then build a $60M, 18k seat stadium) plus you're comparing SWAC to football to the proud of Texas HS football. the TX state championship has been always(i believe) in a dome and if it was outside, the numbers would still be greater than SWAC.

there are many structurally concerns that needs to be evaluated to put a lit on an existing structure; especially do the age of most of the SWAC stadiums.

I think he literally means dropping a roof on top of the already standing stadiums.

Quick question Mr. Structural Engineer, when an engineer designs a building, do they design from top to bottom or bottom to top? I'm sure all the research you have done, you should know the answer to that simple question.

Also, no one is saying a dome can't be built in Jackson, MS, but the city's current economic state does not have the means of supporting a 50k domed stadium. Other than jSU's football games, what other major events would Jackson attract to support this dome? The dome would be a totally waste of taxpayers money.

What BH123 doesn't seems to realize, it would cost way too much money to build a dome over an existing stadium, which would make it more feasible to build a brand new domed stadium. Also, it would at least take a year or more to complete. Where would those schools play their games while a dome is being built over their stadium?
