Do you think Rick Comegy should have been fired? Here are the results so far!

Didn't you guys fire a coach who had a winning record overall?

If you are talking about Douglas Williams, hell yeah he got fired for losing. 2 losing seasons back to back, we don't take that lightly even if you're a Gramblinite. Now what i think was dumb on Gramblings part is letting Broadway get away, very stupid nd it came back to bite us in the butt hiring Doug a second time.

I think it is more to this story than what the naked eye can see... Still waters run deep... At quick glance one would say NO he should not have been fired!!! We will be broadcasting a special edition of this story on our weekly talk show "The Sports Report" @ktorradio.com this Sunday starting @8:00PM CST

Every school, every administration has the right to set their own standards. Comegy wasn't a bad coach. He got us back to respectability after Bell. But he couldn't reach the next level. He couldn't win a title in the worst conference in FCS. The only reason our record looked good is because we play in the SWAC. We wouldn't have been a top 4 team in the MEAC. We expect more at JSU. We paid him twice the salary as our previous coach, let him hire whomever he wanted, gave him a good recruiting budget and good facilities.

It's not about what we think y'all attitude about championships. I'm sure everybody wants to win. This is about our level of tolerance for an inability to win it, and the overall product. We are spoiled rotten since W.C. Gorden. Going from 8 in the 80's to 3 in the 90's to one in the 2000, does not sit well. Hughes couldn't win. Gone. **** lost. Bye!!! Been 6 years and counting now. So long!!! And then to see game after game of the same piss poor play that managed to get by is tiring. I know I was tired of bitching about the offensive game plan and defensive schemes. Win or lose, it sucked.

I agree with the J-State folks and with the administration's decision to let Comegy go. Despite what some of you all's personal feelings are about the matter, there is no denying that the expectations of a football program vary from school to school. And even within the SWAC, for what it is worth, the expectations for all 10 schools are not the same. To J-State's credit, at least they have been consistent with their firings. Firing Robert Hughes after a 7-4 season (in 02') came as a surprise for some...and this was after he finished the previous two seasons with 8-3 records. But guess what? NO RINGS!

Not surprised by the move at all.

I can't read all this but I don't understand why you all care, you should be happy since it was such a bad move; especially now that we going to lose to everybody.

These folks complaining about JSU firing Comegy are laughable because they want JSU to lose every game anyway. Just another reason to vent their hate of JSU.

What about Bell's firing? Did he have a similar record like the others?

Don't waste your time. There is nothing more to it. JSU fans privately wanted this to happen. Comegy had too many close losses that prevented him from being one of the greatest coaches in JSU history. 20 losses by a TD or less is too much..especially when two of those are in championship games.

Actually Hughes had 3 straight 7-4 seasons. The Alabama State games in 2000-2001 was given to us by forfeit. Had we beaten them on the field Hughes would've stuck around.

Thank you for clearing that up. I knew I wasn't crazy. I was checking a website to confirm the years that the 7-4 years happened because I remember the discussions we had about firing Hughes after three 7-4 seasons.

JSU should hire Doug and then hire Junior as QB coach when he graduates. Seriously though I heard Doug is applying for every head coaching availability in the SWAC. He hates GSU.

I saw a couple of games where jsu had serious discipline issues. If you like good football it is sometimes almost unbearable and nauseating to watch. Some of the games jsu played were atrocious due to so many penalties. As a matter of fact, the entire conference need to clean that mess up. I don't think jsu can do better than Comegy but it is his fault that he put that mess on the field last year. After all of those years of coaching that shouldn't happen. He even commented on the undisciplined brand of play on a couple of occasions. I hope next year is better because I saw some bush league type of stuff. I have seen more discipline this year in several high school games......

Wait we led in turnovers . A few teams led in penalties with SU being one..smh

The opinion folks who come to the game just to show off an outfit and dance to the band at halftime don't really matter.

JROCK....IMO that is just a SWAC officials thing....If you noticed, when we play out of conference those officials don't call all that non-sense, at least it seems that way to me. It seems like our officials have some sort of quota to fill with flags. They throw them on some of the most BS stuff....ie: Alabama State vs SU game....Menard's long TD catch and run, brought back because the center 20 yards behind the play blocked a man low...mind you from the front now and it would not have made any difference in the results of the play at all. But I guess they just had to throw a flag at that point of the game before they got behind on their quota....lol

Thanks for sharing! But, the majority of Jackson State fans and alumni don't post on this board, I guess they have better things to do with their time?
