But yeah you are right. Pete is no more well known outside of HBCUs and Louisiana than other great SWAC coaches not named Eddie Robinson.

I wasn't trying to say that Payton would make us a household name nor would I want to see JSU in the Bayou Classic. I was just making a point to bighead when he tried to put Pete's legacy on par with Eddie's. JSU doesn't have a coach either who can come close to having Eddie's profile.

In looking at ACTUAL numbers I see that the Bayou Classic was the #2 attended FCS game this season. I also see that SCSU (named by TC) drew about 4K for a HOME playoff game this past weekend, but he thinks they would travel to N.O. I also see that FAMU didn't outdraw the BC in the Florida Classic, and that previous games vs JSU in N.O. didn't draw as much as the BC did this year either. I also see that JSU (on TSPN) wants to leave the SWAC anyway.

What are your alternatives for it? You don't think it will be a draw (vs GSU) in years to come, but which opponent would be a better draw? SU-JSU in N.O. never drew more than the 47K the Bayou Classic drew THIS season.

Other conferences are generating a substantial amount of their revenues from television, even the smaller conferences. If we want to grow the SWAC and the schools in the SWAC, I believe the key is tapping into more of that money. The only way to get that money and thus get more games on television is to improve the quality of play.

The SWAC has a niche product that people are interested in seeing if it can provide a good product. Even people who may not be Black and who may not have attended a HBCU. The cable companies want to make money - plain and simple. Prove that we have a product people want to watch and claim our share of the profits.

Improving the product may require adjusting the BC in order to allow SWAC schools to play and beat schools in the playoffs. Iron sharpens iron. Better competition would make us better if we were serious about competition and the future of the SWAC. Financially and otherwise.

It's something that has been discussed here many times before.

ETA: I believe the money from cable television (and the exposure) can provide a far greater source of revenue than ticket sales at the BC + what NBC is paying now. It could be substantially more. Gotta think long-term. These $30 million per school per year deals the SEC schools are getting were prepared for 20 years ago. I'm not suggesting that we'll compete with that, but maybe the way things are done now won't always be the best way. That's all I'm saying.

Nah...just can't see that game push back..it was already crazy when they 'move the location' of the game, but to change the date...nah...can't see it..plus you gotta factor in the Swac Championship game being that following week

No Coach in HBCU land has had a bigger name than Coach Rob. So you are right. No one would know or care. Hell folks that really know about Coach Rob outside of the HBCU world are getting old themselves. The next generation will care less about Coach Rob, Bear Bryant or any other legendary coach from years ago. At some point our schools got to become bigger than the legends who coached there. I follow you somewhat, especially with the whole good product on the field and truly this is what it all comes down too, having that "name" or "names" on your roster from 'both' or 'all' schools..This what made the SWAC that conference, they actually touched on this when they were broadcasting the BC how the SWAC use to be the FACE of college football, Shaun King (and I may add, what the clown been eating..whole horses shyt) but he touched on how things were back in the day, when Eddie was coaching..and it all goes back to the marquee 'players' being on these teams..but nowadays it falls now with the 'coaching' our coaching in this conference has to be up to par too...all this needs to improve and we have to start 'marketing' these players like these big schools do...such as your Clowneys, your AJ and Jarvis Landry, these players are jumping out when you mention yo SC or your Bama or your LSUs, back in the day when you said SU, you could throw a name Eric Randle or your Valleys or your Alcorns, etc...now it's like who are these kids?? but it all goes back to 'marketing' these players that are your studs on your team...

That 03 Bayou Classic had some ball players on both teams playing in that game on 'both' sides of the ball, that was like the last biggest BC game, both teams were stacked and ready to play ball...Each team in our conference should be this way to better our conference...not just 2 teams... or 4 teams outta 10...

Folks say this... but where would the payout come from? The CITY doesn't make $50M during that weekend. The 1000s of businesses that serve visitors make that. Do we get a cut off the top from every restaurant/hotel/cab driver?

I would not be shocked to see the game pushed back a week. I don't think you have to worry about Grambling being put out the Classic. That ain't going to happen. But sooner or later I do believe the BC will be moved up a week. Not saying I like that idea. But I think as the conference gets younger leadership across the schools. It will be something that might happen. Especially if the SCG is scrapped. We will see. Change is inevitable. Might not be in the next 5 years. But who knows what happens in 10-20 years. College football is about to go through a radical change in my opinion across the board in the next decade.

the State Fair Classic add 15 million to the Dallas economy and the city of Dallas gives grambling and pvamu 100k apiece, Im sure the city of new Orleans can cough over 350,000 for each school, because they are making a killing off hotel taxes alone

I was talking to a guy about this at my hotel this weekend. The younger age group does not care about the tradition...legacy etc... Their mind is on the bottom dollar. I predict the game being moved and the SWAC going to the playoffs...

Think about this: Why aren't the major SWAC games on television at least regionally? SU vs. JSU should be televised anyway. Alcorn vs. JSU. On and on, but they are not on tv. Why? Figure that out and that's money in the bank.

Cable companies don't care. They would air a chicken farting show if it could be proven that people would watch chicken farting shows.

I just think we're missing some opportunities to make more money and get more exposure for the schools. To get there may require some changes, but we have to be open to change. Change is constant. Nothing grows without change. Why not shape and direct the change for our benefit?
