MIAMI -- The NCAA is investigating whether Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel was paid for signing hundreds of autographs on photos and sports memorabilia in January, "Outside the Lines" has learned. Two sources tell "Outside the Lines" that the Texas A&M quarterback agreed to sign memorabilia in exchange for a five-figure flat fee during his trip to Miami for the Discover BCS National Championship. Both sources said they witnessed the signing, though neither saw the actual exchange of money.

Three sources said Manziel signed photographs, footballs, mini football helmets and other items at the request of an autograph broker named Drew Tieman. Two sources, who are aware of the signing arrangement, told "Outside the Lines" that Tieman approached Manziel on Jan. 6, when he landed at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to attend the game between Alabama and Notre Dame the next day

I don't like the way the media is playing this kid so close to the vest. Unfortunately, it comes with the territory though. So far for the NCAA........don't like it but no further comments.....

Y'all know why this is an issue....lets just admit it...nobody wants that brother to win a national championship.

If Johnny want's to win for A&M, then he should do the proper thing and stay out of the limelight. (That's if he's serious about his school and teammates).

You honestly expect that's going to happen? That's impossible. He's the reigning Heisman winner and starting QB at a big-time school. Regardless of what he does on the field or off the field, Manziel is going to get a lot of attention.

I guess the kid constantly muckin up and being in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons has nothing to do with it? Was it them not wanting a brother to win a championship when they suspended AJ Green 4 games for selling a jersey for profit? And that was only 1K, they're talking about 5 figures here. Or was it them not wanting a brother to win it when they put USC on probation for Reggie Bush accepting money after he was already in the league? Or Ohio State? Come on now lol, stop with the nonsense. And on top of that the kid's family has money, he's a dumbass if he really did this. And if they didn't spare USC or OSU they certainly aren't going to spare A&M. They might as well just go ahead and kick him off the team and get it over with.

The difference in the USC and OSU situations were that the coaching staffs at those schools knew about the transactions an didn't report the findings to the NCAA. As of now, we don't know whether anyone at TAMU aside from Manziel had knowledge of this.

We don't even know if there is a paper trail to be able to prove that he got any money.

They've been investigating since February and have already verified the signatures... going to Florida to sign consequential autographs for free? Yea, ok lol

They still have to prove that he took the money. They need a check from the memorabilia guy or a transfer of funds from him to Manziel. You know and I know that he aint signing 900 autographs for free but there as to be some type of proof.

No they don't need proof....this is the NCAA not the US court of law. All they need to do is connect the dots and say he can't play and he can't play. Also, it's been said that A&M conducted an "investigation" of their own and said they didn't find any money so if it comes out that he did, that means the school knew.... they'd better pray the NCAA doesn't find anything.

lot of crap about nothing.
This is just the usual SEC back biting right before the season start. How you gonna have people saying he made a deal yet those same people say they didn't see or can prove he took money for a photo session just because people started selling them on E-Bay.

If I had one, I would sell it for some gas money too.

major095,

Trust me, Bama fans want another shot at Manziel. Seriously. I made a little joke about it, but I really, really hope he is not ruled ineligible, because I don't want any excuses when Bama spanks 'em. Also, this is shaping up to be the early "game of the year", and knocking Manziel out of the game would really hurt its appeal.

jstate83,

I don't think its the SEC that would love to hurt Texas A&M . . . If I had to guess, I'd be looking in Austin, Texas as the place where people really want to see TA&M fall flat on their faces. Texas has been on somewhat of a decline lately, all the while TA&M has been moving up - jumping to the SEC, having a Heisman Trophy winner, beating the defending National Champions in their stadium, etc., etc.

It will be interesting to see what happens with this. Again, I hope he remains eligible.

Didn't think about TEXAS and their hate but I would not be surprised at all if it was them. But still, I would be willing to bet anything that he don't miss a game.
