Contenders:

Alabama

Ohio State

South Carolina

Oregon

Pretenders

Texas A&M ( I think Manziel is going to take a nose dive this fall)

Clemson (Dabo Swinney is their coach. lol)

Louisville

Florida( I think they are ranked much too high with all of the question marks on offense, this isn't their season to win big)

LSU ( Same as Florida)

Darkhorses

Texas

Nebraska

Oregon State

Missouri

I think Ohio State is a fraud. Look at their schedule, they play nobody and will waltz into the BCS Championship game if they get my Michigan.

I don't think the Big 10 is as weak as people make it out to be. Northwestern, Wisconsin, and Michigan are usually strong teams. Plus a team like Iowa could mess up a perfect season too. Then in the Big 10 Championship Game, they could end up facing a Nebraska program that has been solid with Pelini as the coach.

Wisconsin, Michigan, and Nebraska competed very well against their bowl opponents. Although Georgia did kind of kick into a new gear on Nebraska later in the game.

It is a big mistake to sleep on LSU. However, we will find out quickly with Georgia and TCU on tap in September. From what I saw in the spring, that offense is going to be better than recent years. The defense causes me a little concern in comparison to the last couple of years due to attrition. If that defense gels early, LSU is going to give everyone a whole lot of trouble.

Georgia's offense is going to reveal all we need to know about LSU's defense. Good or bad.

San Diego State is a solid mid-major team. California has some good talent as well on their team. Their OOC is no weaker than other power schools.

Man I just can't get down with Clemson. lol

They have the talent to win for sure, but they have Dabo Swinney as their coach, so that will guarantee them at least 2-3 losses just because of him. lol

Well you know SEC Vanderbilt backed out of their game with us this year. THe reason they added FAMU. Somebody else backed out of their game as well. Let me go look to see who else it was.

This is the first time in years Virginia Tech didn't crack the Top 25 Pre-season polls. Typically they are favored to win the ACC. I guess Beamer Ball has died out.

Logan Thomas has really been a disappointment. They were hyping that kid up but so far he has fallen flat.

The game to watch is their match up against Georgia in September. If Clemson is ever going to do something, this will be the year. Realistically, they could very easily lose to Georgia and South Carolina. Those two games will make or break their season relating to a national title. I'll give them the ACC which should be one of their goals.

They don't have any ACC Coastal division teams ranked and that is probably due to the fall of VaTech last year. Sometimes there is a measuring stick and in the Coastal it's VaTech. UNC, Miami and GaTech didn't do well enough last year to get a ranking.

..as for Clemson. I watched the GaTech-Clemson game back over like two weeks ago. Unless their defense improves, they won't beat Tech this year. BUT by the end of the year, whoever emerges from the Coastal division should be ranked. VaTech-UNC-Miami-Georgia Tech will be an interesting 4 team race if UNC an Miami live up to the preseason hype to dethrone the Techs.

I am wishing nothing but the best for Clemson, FSU and even Louisville tho. I'm already claiming Louisville as an ACC member. :)

Their win over LSU last year had me hopeful until I watched their game vs GT. I hope they beat UGA's azz but that defense is going to have to be ready. I think they will be able to move the ball on UGA but not sure if they can stop UGA. Right now, I doubt it.. but you are right. THIS has to be Clemson's year. They will lose a lot of players after this season and I am not sure who Dabo has waiting in the wings.

Don't write Virginia Tech off just yet. Frank Beamer is an excellent coach, and he'll get them back to playing good ball. Believe it or not, I'm actually a wee bit nervous of Bama's first game against them. Bama has been focusing so much on their second game - @ Texas A&M (third week of season), that this could be a minor trap game. Talk about a way to jump-start your program, if you're Va Tech. Anyway, I think Bama will win it, but don't be surprised if Bama is caught looking ahead, and Va Tech makes the game a lot more interesting than it should be. Remember, Frank Beamer has had nine months to study nothing but Bama. And even though Saban has had the same amount of time to study them, I have a sneaking suspicion that Saban has been peepin' at TA&M film about as much as Va Tech film.

Why does Texas always start in the Top-15?? :smh:

Texas has tons of talent, and despite all the gloom from the last couple seasons, they actually won 9 games last year. Whether they stay highly ranked is another matter, but it's not absurd that they're a preseason top-15 team.
