That will happen until every conference championship ends up in Jackson....LOL

This is really DUMB....and I think it needs to be in New Orleans until. Jackson can get the dome...But I can see the SWAC prez complaining about JSU home advantage...

I love the city of Houston it was crazy for the All Star game but Houston market could care less about HBCU sports...

:banana:I'm loving it...but you people still won't show up, it's not in your DNA

:clap::clap::clap:

lol So did you travel from PV to Birmingham?

Yep, we took over that host hotel and stood in the cold rain at that stadium

I also agree in premise that simply moving these events to Houston, by itself, will not make the attendance any better than it has been in previous locations. I also think that while they are playing in nice venues, both will dwarf the crowd that actually attends the events, although Toyota Center will be able to mask it a bit better.

I think Toyota Center is too big for our tournament. Even if they close the upper stands and drap those seats, the bottom bowl will still be too big.

Never mind.

You got to consider the source.......just check all the replies....

The Toyota Center is waaaayyyyyyyyyyy to big. It's going to look horrible on TV.

This we agree on.....

who said that. The baseball tournament was full to the brim in BR and they moved it because of jealousy. Im talking folks tailgating everyday even after SU lost. You wont get that atmosphere or crowd no where you move the baseball tournament. Take the MLB Urban Invitational in Houston. A huge failure. If that event was in NO or Jackson it would have been very SUcessful. Houston dont SUpport HBCU sports. Games counting SU dont count  . We have a built in crowd, plus we bring folks. :)

Man you know you can over exaggerate about that Baseball tourny in BR and full to the brim when Southern lose it does not remind full so quit it...and the only people tailgating is you and your group...the only part you got right was that you all continue to tailgate after your team loses!

I can't imagine Bama State fans returning to Houston twice in a season. That 15 hr drive is too much.

But it is okay for the Texas teams to have to do so to that raggedy Birmingham ...and what return twice in a season your fans don't travel to Houston during the regular season game...now I am really

My 2 cents.....I think they picked Houston because houston might have offered a much better deal compared the rest......Look at the U of H situation out of all the Major Venues in Houston "Reliant"had the best deal.....that says something

I love new orleans....Would like to see the game in the boot...but u have to think...how much did the super dome want? What did they offer? How much would the average Hotel Rates be?

Jackson....It's cool when SU plays JSU BUT nahhhh....just not appealing just like birmingham hell.....if thats the case...you could see how much Tiger Stadium in BR wants...Ya know KIP is down for trying to bring in big events to BR

Damn! President Wright and Fred struck again. I guess with the commissioner's cup you get home field advantage.

Correction, big white events. lol

The game should have never been scheduled in an outdoors stadium in December, the wettest and coldest part of the year. Even New Orleans wasn't a great place for the Super Bowl until the State of Louisiana built the Super Dome. Now New Orleans is tied with Miami for hosting the most Super Bowl. Fans don't like to be cold and wet, plus after the game, fans like to be within walking distance to hotels and main attractions.

Re: Football Championship Game- I think it has the potential to do well if we can market the game to an expanded fanbase. The Texas Bowl that is played in Reliant draws well. I think there are football fans out there that we come to see the game. We all know if SU is in the game that helps attendance. I feel if JSU, PV, or TSU (not eligible until 2015) would not do badly.

Re: Basketball Tourney- Attendance for the day games will be about the same as people are at work; however, I think the championship game will draw well. Now if PV vs. TSU is in the championship game then look out.....regular season the TSU vs PV game at TSU drew over 8,000.

Well, I was at the SCG in 2010 to see my Tigers but since the game is in Houston for the next 3 years I will be there no matter who plays.

This is good news. More to do in H Town and its closer. B Ham is a nice city tho.

New Orleans has their fair share of December events with two or three bowl games (national title game) and they have the Bayou Classic so there's no real incentive to bring the SCG there at the end of the day as everyone says Centrally Located. Well...centrally located means driving in the day of the game and cities count on hotel rooms to be filled as when the Classic was the place to be, it had plenty of hotels filled plus a drive up crowd.

tried to tell you all the SWAC's footprint is beginning to change and shift towards the West as it has more attractive markets to exploit

Damn, Birmingham can't hold on to shyt. First, the SEC football championship game left years ago, and now the SWAC is leaving......Maybe it's because Legion Field is inadequate of holding such events.........the stadium is old as dirt and not very appealing at all......Like a previous poster said, "THE SCG is on a city to city tour, and before you know it will end up in Atlanta.....

So basically it's going to go from being a ghost town in Legion Field to a ghost town in Reliant. Imagine a Grambling vs Bama State championship game....in Texas.

I came to Houston back when we played txsu back in 2011. There were some pros and cons. There's alot more to do. I stayed at the Sheraton near the Galleria, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was the host hotel (a major supporter) of txsu/SWAC football. I ended up going out after the game because a friend of mine owns an establishment. Using my gps was a nightmare because of construction. That next day , after we checked out, we were on 10 heading back across in the rain and there was an 18 car pile up. Simply put, if you can't drive, then don't drive in Houston. If you don't like traffic, don't drive in Houston, and if you don't have an idea of where you're going, then DON'T DRIVE IN HOUSTON!!! I am relieved to hear that there is now a light rail service because that's all I can remember thinking last time I was there is this place is too big to not have a train. As far as the HORNET NATION, we're up and coming, not fully mobilized. I don't see us showing up in droves, but if we increase the number of ISTAP busses and find a way to decrease the price then maybe.

I think that's the biggest drawback with people coming to Houston for events. Its made for the people that live here and not so much for visitors. However that is slowly changing.

I went to Houston the last time S.U. played and rented a car. I had no problem getting around or with traffic. My GPS took me everywhere I needed to go. :emlaugh: I don't see it radically different from driving in the ATL.
