I came to Houston back when we played txsu back in 2011. There were some pros and cons. There's alot more to do. I stayed at the Sheraton near the Galleria, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was the host hotel (a major supporter) of txsu/SWAC football. I ended up going out after the game because a friend of mine owns an establishment. Using my gps was a nightmare because of construction. That next day , after we checked out, we were on 10 heading back across in the rain and there was an 18 car pile up. Simply put, if you can't drive, then don't drive in Houston. If you don't like traffic, don't drive in Houston, and if you don't have an idea of where you're going, then DON'T DRIVE IN HOUSTON!!! I am relieved to hear that there is now a light rail service because that's all I can remember thinking last time I was there is this place is too big to not have a train. As far as the HORNET NATION, we're up and coming, not fully mobilized. I don't see us showing up in droves, but if we increase the number of ISTAP busses and find a way to decrease the price then maybe.

You live in Alabama tho... so you probably had never seen traffic.

SU alums in Houston would come out to support the Gram people. Hell some of them are related or married to Gram alums. LOL. I think just the Bama Schools will have the most heartburn with this. It is easier to fly into Houston than B-ham. Houston has two airports to fly into. I would imagine all the West schools are happy with the move. The Ms Schools it probably is a wash. I know Jackson is only a 6-7.5 hour drive depending on how you drive. LOL. On Southwest it is barely an hour flight and probably cheaper than driving with the gas prices. We will see how it transpires.

Bham was better for the JSU fan base but Houston is cool too!
 



With this move the SWAC office better hope that one of the Texas Schools, Southern or Jackson State makes it to the SCG every year......because if not it wont look good on tv at all..20K or less in a 80K seat stadium..:smh: This conference is ran by idiots!

Hell and now that I think about it even the Texas Schools may or may not bring a crowd...:smh:

yeah, I don't like that either but I am sure they will close off what they can to put as many people as possible in the lower bowl.

To me that's with any big stadium... Fill up the lower bowl and work your way up.. We all so cheap we buy the tickets in the upper endzones and shat like that.. If the whole lower bowl of the Superdome was full first, the crowd wouldn't look so sparse...

Like others have said, if they fill the lower tier seats, it won't matter. One thing is for sure, folks will be dry and warm if it rains and is cold out.

If you stay downtown or anywhere close to the rail line, you can take the Metrorail to the stadium and save from the traffic and paying those high parking fees.

I resent that. I have traveled extensively around the world, I'm talking Sydney, Australia to new Guinea, Jaen to Barcelona, back over to Senegal and down to Morocco, not mention all the Island hopping I've done. Everywhere I've been, Id say the worst traffic is easily found in San Juan, nyc, Dallas, and Houston.

Matter of fact, I can only remember the roof being opened for us ONCE (SU vs TSU a few years back, in the heat of the day). Even on beautiful nights, we always have the roof closed there.

BBVA really would be the perfect venue for the game, but the downfall is the fact that it is outdoors, and of course no one wants to risk it with the elements that time of year. But from stadium size to amenities to location, that would be ideal.

When compared to Reliant, yes. But it is not an issue unless it is a shared game day/time with the Astros. And that wouldn't be a problem in December. BBVA utilizes some of the Astros lots, which is sufficient for that stadium.
 



Well Congrats Houston, ya'll have fun. You probably won't be seeing me unless JSU goes on another one of those dominance runs because I ain't driving from the A to Space City. And by the time the matchups are in place, that's gonna be a little late for me to be purchasing air fare. But I eventually still plan to come to a JSU/TSU game again. But at least, this now gives my Houston Alums a chance to see the SCG as they were in the same boat I'm in coming to Bham.

Now with this move, can they also vote on a 7 game schedule and decide the reps earlier?? Just wishin......

I just hope this fall it's JSU v. SU and the game has 55K and everybody comes out for the first one in H-Town, so we'll have something to debate over the next 13 years after the attendance drops.

The problem ain't the host city, It's the actual event........

Roof was open at night in 2008 when PV/Southern played.

What HBCU events does Bham have? Plus the HBCU alumni fanbase in the fourth largest city much larger than Bham. It's the largest home of TSU, PV, SU grads for certain and oil and gas country is ripe with potential sponsors. For once in my life I don't care who plans in the Ship. I will be there just like I'm there for the CIAA tournament and the Florida Classic that's 16-18 hours away.
