5 schools within 2 hours from Jackson. It would be a event in Jackson. It wont be a event in Houston. In Jackson the SWAC will be the only show in town. In Houston The SWAC wont even get a article in the back of the paper. :smh: Name one SWAC event besides the Bayou Classic 05 or when SU comes to town has there ever been a crowd above 30,000 . Hell I could drop down to 20,000

I just don't get this fascination with Jackson. I'm sorry but that town does nothing for me. Like tbf said, when it comes to flights and hotels Houston wins....especially considering its proximity to SWAC alumni bases (and the fact that the stadium is weather proof helps)

Other than that 05 relocated Classic, Houston has not hosted any high profile SWAC events.

Never been to Houston before....looking foward to it.

I will tell you now though... attendance will not be any better.

yea this really isn't that big of a deal to me but I will say Houston doesn't support the two schools located in Texas so we'll have to hope it's looked at as a destination city type trip. I know Houston is big but what is it's time square it's magnificent mile it's burbon Street?. I wish it was in N.O.

Yes it has. The basketball tournament and baseball tournament has been there. The point I was making was even when sTu plays PV the locals or fans of both programs dont show up. In Jackson you have 5 schools who fans would show up even if their team isnt playing plus the locals would come because Jackson is a SWAC city.

The baseball tournament was here, and was located in a place that most Houstonians don't even know exist. I worked it, have lived in Houston my whole life, and had to Google directions to the place....Plus it's baseball. Attendance was about even with tourneys I have seen in other locations...*shrug*

What basketball tourney have you seen in Houston? SURELY not the SWAC tourney...Maybe the Southland, but the SWAC basketball tourney hasn't been here.

I also agree in premise that simply moving these events to Houston, by itself, will not make the attendance any better than it has been in previous locations. I also think that while they are playing in nice venues, both will dwarf the crowd that actually attends the events, although Toyota Center will be able to mask it a bit better.

How long have you been around the SWAC lol. The SWAC Tournament was at TSU.

Thats the thing. In Jackson folks would just come.

The same was said when the baseball tournament was in Shreveport....and in Biloxi....
who said that. The baseball tournament was full to the brim in BR and they moved it because of jealousy. Im talking folks tailgating everyday even after SU lost. You wont get that atmosphere or crowd no where you move the baseball tournament. Take the MLB Urban Invitational in Houston. A huge failure. If that event was in NO or Jackson it would have been very SUcessful. Houston dont SUpport HBCU sports. Games counting SU dont count  . We have a built in crowd, plus we bring folks. :)

If PV and Texas SO can only get 20k for an opening game contest in Houston... what makes anyone think that 30 or even 40k will show up for a SWAC Championship game... small fish in a big pond. ..... im going to use bandfans usual comment "its too much other stuff to do in Houston"

nevertheless, I look foward to making the trip one year... not this year because it my child will be born around that time, but definitely next year!

Fair. The problem with THAT game is the SAME problem that I foresee the SCG having. THE VENUE. The TxSU/PV game was doing WELL every year until it moved to Reliant. Really, it started to decline in popularity when it moved to the Astrodome. Between parking, ticket prices, and concessions, the price was well above what one would expect to pay to see a SWAC game.

That will be a major factor for the SWAC fan at Reliant who is not there to see their school.

As criticized as it was, I heard a LOT of people that thoroughly enjoyed the PV-TSU matchup at Delmar simply because parking was free, tickets were reasonable, and concessions were affordable. And on top of all of that, the game was entertaining.

Yea the atmosphere was by FAR better and an overall much better bang for the buck.

Well Ive never been to a football game where parking was free...not even a junior high or high school game.... so I highly doubt you will see it at the SWAC Championship lol.

I know that, and it's not what I expect when I go to a college game. I was making the point that it's a lot more than "Houston don't support PV and TSU". The "high school stadium" that some people refused to go to was probably the best PV-TSU game (atmosphere-wise) in the last 20 years, and people didn't have to break the bank for it. Contrast that with Reliant, where you pay $15 to park, $30 for a ticket, and $20 for nachos and a beer. One person done spent $65 before they even get to their seat (and that don't count hair cut/do and outfit + pre-game liquor...LOL). THAT is why that game has dwindled in attendance...Once the economy started slowing down, folks started getting a lot more picky with their $65.

That is why I said earlier, if they use the same formula for the SCG as they do for PV-TSU, then expect similar results in attendance for that game. Don't have nothing to do with support. Has everything to do with the dollars making sense.

The fans of the two participating institutions will drive the attendance numbers just as they did in B'ham. I can't imagine Bama State fans returning to Houston twice in a season. That 15 hr drive is too much.
