Are We As SWAC Fans Not Putting Enough Pressure on SWAC Football Coaches AND Players?

Re: Are We As SWAC Fans Not Putting Enough Pressure on SWAC Football Coaches AND Play

If I fly to two or three games or in the case of when I was in ATL or MS and drove to 8-9 games a year, yes, they owe me something. Not me personally but the alums who support the university ARE the university. Surely, JSU football would NOT be JSU football without the fans in the stands.
I can't believe it, but I agree with TP on this.
I'm not sure if "owe" is the word I would use, but when we support our schools, we want to see the best efforts put forth. If a kid has been awarded a scholarship to play football or bball, the expectation would be that he would be giving his best effort in doing that. It's more than him just going to class.

T.(Thomas) Boone Pickens is an Oklahoma State Grad (in the oil & gas and energy business) who currently owns the record amount of money bequeathed to any NCAA institution of $176 million...he first went to Texas A&M but transferred after 1 year...Now catch up with your donations to JSU!:emlaugh:

I think he said that in jest......... :emlaugh:

Re: Are We As SWAC Fans Not Putting Enough Pressure on SWAC Football Coaches AND Play

Sorry but TP is correct. If these kids feels as though they don't owe our schools anything, they can leave. These same kids would feel as thought they owe SEC schools their life if they played for them.

Re: Are We As SWAC Fans Not Putting Enough Pressure on SWAC Football Coaches AND Play

Uhh JSU has been hated since the '80's and YOU of all people know why.

Hated by whom? Grambling didn't hate JSU. That was the first decade that JSU started being able to beat them. Valley and Rice finally beat JSU, Alcorn won the SWAC in 84, Even SU beat JSU a couple of times in the decade. I don't think there was any hate for JSU back then. Valley probably hated JSU the most due to the losing streak against yall. PV and TxSU didn't care and Bama State was just ramping up in the SWAC. So you tell me who hated JSU?

Hell the bands had better rivalry going on back then. Oh well. And you are right. I do know. It is you newer school post 80s JSU folks who started with the hate after teams started beating yall that you were not used too. Namely SU. So don't go there.

Re: Are We As SWAC Fans Not Putting Enough Pressure on SWAC Football Coaches AND Play

You can put on all the pressure, raise all the hell, and bring all of the drama, but if you aren't donating $$$$ then all of that noise is just that. The impact is minimal if you aren't donating money. Therein lies the problem with the SWAC.

For example, people have been wanting Tevester Anderson gone from JSU for the past 4 years.....talking bad about him and not attending the games as protest, and in the end, he left on his own terms. Money talks, and we SWAC schools are not doing the right kind of talking.

You shole is right Syndicate.

I don't think anyone said the kids feel that way.

The kids pick the school. They don't owe us anything. I find it awfully ironic at the level of entitlement that exists here.

Re: Are We As SWAC Fans Not Putting Enough Pressure on SWAC Football Coaches AND Play

the popular coach has clout or alumni in the president's "clique" has the power

Re: Are We As SWAC Fans Not Putting Enough Pressure on SWAC Football Coaches AND Play

Chances are that it's not the players who have gotten lazy. It's just that fans have gotten dumber in their assessment of student athletes.

Ding, Ding, Ding

I go out and see our kids practice in that insanely hot ass Mississippi Delta heat. The things that Valley players have to go through that none of you know about would totally blow your mind, so I would never fix my mouth to call any of our players lazy.

Oh no sir, no ma'am! We're not doing this. Y'all gone learn today! :slap:

We're beyond the SWAC office and SWAC COPs w/ their brand of "intelligence." Put info in a table, expand it appropriately, and send it to the SWAC office to teach them a thing or two. (the seed is planted) :|

Yes, the world owes thugs just like 18 to 21-year-old athletes owe us, the fan and the alums, who use the outcome of sporting events to define their own happiness and self-worth. And that's why this thread exists. JR said it in his first post. We want everything that comes along with winning. The bragging rights. The fame. The respect. And all those greenbacks. That's what some believe those kids and coaches owe us at the end of the day.

I agree. The student only owes it to themselves to be the best student-athlete they can be and not to be the next victim to the "drop out of college" statistics. The only person that owe the fans are the coaches to put the best product on the field and student-athlete on the field and in the classroom (only because they recruit student-athletes, not just athletes). It's a coach's job to develop the best product for themselves, the school, the players, and the fan base. That's why when the ship is not sailing right, they are usually the first ones thrown overboard.

Re: Are We As SWAC Fans Not Putting Enough Pressure on SWAC Football Coaches AND Play

The only issue I have with "putting pressure" on coaches is a lot of times the emptiest wagons make the most noise, and folks expect coaches to make chicken salad out of............... you know the rest.

Re: Are We As SWAC Fans Not Putting Enough Pressure on SWAC Football Coaches AND Play

Once again, an experiment of mine has proven a point...and identified another problem of the SWAC.

Some of you say the players don't owe us, the alumni and fans, anything.

Question: If the players don't owe me anything, why should I or anyone else have this "obligation" to owe our time and money to go see them play? BETTER YET.......Why should we even have a football program if the players don't care about representing the institution and everything it stands for?

See, when you put on a uniform, you are never just representing yourself. You are representing the institution and everything associated with it. When you get in a fight, guess who they identify first? THE SCHOOL...then the player's name.

And yet, the same people who say the players don't owe us anything.....are the same people who criticize me and others for speaking out on the wrongs of SWAC Football and bringing attention to them. Anybody that has ever played sports knows the worst thing a coach can do to a player is not speaking or even looking at him after they mess up. And yet....you want me to donate my time and money to players who feel they don't have to represent my institution to upmost prestige, class, and achievement?

Who has the gun to your head forcing you to support anything? You choose to, right? Oh, and college athletics was never was supposed to morph into this conglomerated monster. But the powers that be realized they could exploit the public and impressionable kids for profit.
