I think the overall problem is Frank has never been the starting QB the entire time he's been at GSU. I know for a fact that he's very mad about his situation on the football team. Frank was a pro prospect and could have shown more of his skills if the GSU line would have had better blocking for him. His overall weakness was the fear of getting hit to hard, therefore he needed the extra blocking to prevent that from happening. He's a pure pocket passer. If you give him the blocking he will pick you apart.

His first year he was a Prop and Anthony Carrothers (another true freshman) started and we were 9-2 losing to La Tech and Conf Champ TxSU in a close one. The next Spring, after having the best Camp, Carrothers ended up being told he didn't fit the system...Rivers wasn't eligible for Spring Camp. DJ started the season and got injured - our record at the time was 1-3 with a win over Alcorn and losses to ULM, Bama State, and our first home loss in 4 years to A&M. Rivers came on (along with the emergence of D Roberts) and after losing to PVU, we went on a win streak that took us into the Bayou Classic where DJ was re-instated as the starter. DJ was the starting qb in the SCG that season. After a Spring camp where Frank split time with Baseball but had the most yardage in the B&G game (by far), DJ was announced the starter for the season --- this was prior to Fall Camp!

That's a coach's perogative...he knows his personnel better than any of us. However when that decision helps lead to a 1-10 record, that decision gets questioned by me, regardless to who the coach is. That is not personal... but that's a good enuff excuse for some to divert and deflect. Sad Really. Hopefully this year, there will be no need for such diversions if we can get a bounce back season.

I have never seen a fan base that's set on tearing their championship winning coach down over personal vendettas. Doug must have slept with some of yalls women :lol: .

Grambling have so many Monday Morning quarterbacks that actually think they know what they're talking about. If Rick Pitino was at Grambling they would have ask for his head a long time ago. :lol: :emlaugh: IMHO, many of their fans are simply unreasonable and lack good judgement. Who fires a coach that has 4 championships in 8 years of coaching (think about that)? They will not be happy until they get a James Bell type at the helm. That would certainly be the type of karma that some deserve.

This hasn't happened for quite some time and doesn't seem like it's even remotely in the cards for the upcoming season, especially with a new coach and entirely new system and a team with a QB who didn't win one SWAC game last season.

Ok when you say 4 championships in 8 years it sounds Great, but you are mis representing it because this is not 8 straight years but 6 years, a 8 year break, then 2 years. And you assuming that the 8 year break didnt have any changes in the coaching world... and whats bigger... Is you are ignoring the Fact that after DJ faked his injury against SU in the Classic, Grambling made a come back with Rivers in Until the Coaches F'ed it Up.. You Ignore that with Rivers in the Bayou Classic our Team came alive and our Fans Came alive after a clearly improved team in 3 snaps

Doug Williams is the head football coach and as such makes the calls on personnel (coaching and players). When those decisions results in a two year record of 9-14, with 10 of those loses coming from a team PICKED to win it all but didn't win one conference game, you can expect there to be criticism. Yes, he won 4 championships in his initial stint as coach... that helped him get the job the second time, but is that reason to keep him now that we can't seem to win a conference game?

I hope it works out for him and for DJ Williams and the rest of the Tigers. I don't blame DJ at all for our record...nor any of the other players. When you go 0-10 in arguably the weakest conference in FCS football, that's not players -- that's coaching. Names mean nothing to me... I give accolades for winning. Our coaches are not winning so expect criticism for a piss poor job.

Having said that... I honestly feel that DJ Williams has the ability to be a good quarterback. I give him one thing...the kid is mentally tough because he's no doubt heard and read the criticism. Physically, he can make the throws and has a firm grasp of the offense. My personal opinion (for what it's worth) is that he got rushed/placed as the starter before he was ready and it showed last season (play calling didn't help him). If you watch him throwing the ball, you can see the arm strength is there and he makes the correct reads (from what I can see). Hopefully this will be a break out season for him...if not, the team will suffer because it's obvious that he is entrenched as the starter!

SU has been downtrodden so long by lackluster coaching with huge six figure paychecks, that they've FINALLY learned their lesson. Let the man earn his huge contract. Nothing wrong with that.
