Looks Like Frank Rivers Has Left The Team, Is A No Show For Grambling Spring Practice

Re: Looks Like Frank Rivers Has Left The Team, Is A No Show For Grambling Spring Prac

I am sorry but I see this different from you guys. Basically Frank is acting like a lil girl. He must not have real male leadership in his life because this looks like another "if I can't have it my way I will take my ball and go home" momma taught lesson. Why quit on your team? If you are as goods as you think you are prove it and Doug will have no choice but to bench DJ. Running like a lil broad is not gonna hurt Doug Williams, but it will prove Frank ran like a broad. Put your big boy drawz on and take the ladies panties off and man up. Life is what it is. If he think what Doug is doing wait until he gets his degree and these corporate boys get hold of him. man please. Corporate America hazes you worst than anyone especially if are in it for 30 plus years.

OR...he could think that it's in his best career interest to focus on baseball just as Coach Williams thinks it's in his best career interest to start DJ Williams. I don't see it as quitting, I see it as focusing on one's future.

What position does Frank play in baseball?

I am going to have to disagree with you on this. Maybe Frank is finding more happiness playing baseball. And maybe his coach don't think he needs him on the football field. You have to make a stand Cee. He ain't quitting on his team. He is just choosing not to play if he thinks he is out performing DJ. Can't be mad at that. Yes corporate America will haze him. But if he gets passed over for the Boss's son or someone, he can exercise his right to find another job. Folks do it all the time all the way up to the CEO level. Let them get passed over and they think they deserve to be at the top. They take their talents elsewhere. That's not quitting. At the end of the day you got to do what is best for you. Quitting on the team is being the Starting QB and giving up Football to go play baseball.

Maybe the kid thinks like Doug thinks. You ain't good enough to start at Gram. So he is like I am not going to waste my time or the team's. If Doug brought in this hot shot kid from Cali, maybe Rivers is the odd man out.

Yep. I agree. I could see if the kid was causing a ruckus or something. The baseball coach don't have an issue with him. So he is probably a team player. I wish the kid luck. If he is trying to graduate as well, he may feel doing both is too much.

LOL. Cee, normally I am with these kids are soft these days. But that kid may have been a no win situation. What would you tell your son if you thought he was better than the starting QB and when he played he outplayed the starter who happens to be the Coach's son?

Re: Looks Like Frank Rivers Has Left The Team, Is A No Show For Grambling Spring Prac

Smells like....."No matter what I do, coach gonna let his son play quarterback."

Pretty much. That is what killed the GSU season last year. Doug was hell bent on DJ being the QB no matter what.

I don't think he's leaving the team because he's not tough enough. Rivers probably understands that no matter how well he might perform, DJ will be the starter. I would seek other options, too. Don't have time for that. It happens all the time in college football.

Re: Looks Like Frank Rivers Has Left The Team, Is A No Show For Grambling Spring Prac

Is Frank on a football scholarship or baseball scholarship?

Re: Looks Like Frank Rivers Has Left The Team, Is A No Show For Grambling Spring Prac

I would tell him to get one of those linemen to accidentally fall on on DJ. :emlaugh:

I dont blame him. You honestly think Doug Williams wants his son to sit on the bench and not succeed? Heck nah, I wouldn't live with myself if I benched my son, no matter how sorry he is lol....

I bench family members with the quickness.. You get first shot.. If you dont make it oops.. On to the next one

Cee, I would normally agree with you but come on man... You know DJ is gonna be a four year starter. Why should Rivers sit and wait for something to happen to DJ and then play.. Even if DJ is playing piss poor gets hurt... Rivers comes in and lights it up... Doug will say you cant lose your job becuase of an injury which is a crock of bull sometimes...

Re: Looks Like Frank Rivers Has Left The Team, Is A No Show For Grambling Spring Prac

If the scouts don't have game film on you they will not consider you. Who knows that one break out moment he gets might be his meal ticket. Sorry but times have changed. To many options now to let DJ end it for him. With all the money in sports in 2013 I would be trying to get me a piece of the pie. Even if it was a scrub 250K contract.

He can't get that meal ticket playing baseball? Frank actually has a better chance of getting drafted playing baseball than football.

Yes Sir

Was it really necessary for Doug to make these comments?! Seems...messy. Now there's a whole lot of speculating and questioning of Frank's dedication and maybe he just wanted to focus on one sport at a time. :noidea:

Doug knows exactly what he is doing SS!!!! Seriously Doug thinks his shi* dont STINK!!! ASHY BUSTER

Pretty much. That is what killed the GSU season last year. Doug was hell bent on DJ being the QB no matter what.[/QUOTE]
YESSSS SIR!!!

I have never seen a fan base that's set on tearing their championship winning coach down over personal vendettas. Doug must have slept with some of yalls women  .

Grambling folks mad at Doug and Alcornites like me mad at the Administration. Indianapolis is going to be Interesting (Even Though Alcorn Administration was STUPID, STUPID, STUPID, to give up a Home Game)!!!

Re: Looks Like Frank Rivers Has Left The Team, Is A No Show For Grambling Spring Prac

I think the overall problem is Frank has never been the starting QB the entire time he's been at GSU. I know for a fact that he's very mad about his situation on the football team. Frank was a pro prospect and could have shown more of his skills if the GSU line would have had better blocking for him. His overall weakness was the fear of getting hit to hard, therefore he needed the extra blocking to prevent that from happening. He's a pure pocket passer. If you give him the blocking he will pick you apart.

So exactly what does a coach's record have to be before criticism is levelled at personnel decisions? Yall are allowing the "They don't like Doug" excuse to drive your thinking. Ask yourself if a change would not have been made at any other position during the past season? Yes, it was!
