Southern University asks Stump Mitchell to resign

Who knows what the list will look like at this point. Mainly because a lot of coaches who may be interested can't talk to us until their season is over. So unless you got some guy who is out of work already on your list, you just got to sit back and do your homework on who you might want to reach out to when you are allowed too. Since we have a YOUNG and go getter AD who has no ties to HBCUs, I expect the coaching search to be different from the past unless our BOS interferes. If they let Dr. Broussard do his job as AD, I expect he would go after a young viable candidate.

this has to go on record as the earliest firing of any football coach...this gives southern plenty of time to plan. there is nothing wrong with hiring a coach from powerhouse D2 program that has proven success in the playoffs. hopefully, not participating in the playoffs and the nine mandate won't discourage the really good coaches from applying.

That's what I'd love for JSU to do after Comegy expires.
It's needed!

How is it that? Are you saying that We, the 9 Swac schools, need that one SU game every other year to stay afloat?
Interesting... We depend on SU yet SU can't keep itself afloat with 4-5 home games EVERY YEAR... Resulting in them moving a home to JSU just to make a profit.
Yeap makes perfect sense

Don't nobody need y'all. Just worry about increasing your own home attendance before you worry about how you're effecting others because honestly, you need us!

This is SU's problem. Don't you put that evil on us Ricky Bobby.

I don't think he meant that folks need SU to survive. What he is saying is a winning SU does help everyone's revenue when we come to their town. We all know that a lot of SWAC schools fans don't travel like SU does WHEN WE ARE WINNING. You can see how the JSU vs SU games were in the early 2000s and 90s. We have helped Alcorn sell out games when they had Dr. Johnny on the reservation. I went to a game in Huntsville during the early 2000s and saw how many SU fans showed up. Now have they been doing that in the last 5-6 years. No we haven't. But you can't tell me the SWAC would not benefit from SU being back to the early Pete days. Now folks may not like us winning again because that means we are beating your schools. But just like that 99 crowd in Jackson when I know it had to be at least 60K in Memorial. That is what I am talking. You can't tell me you aint eager to see crowds like that again. At this rate, the game next week might not draw 40K and 35K will be your fans.

People dont like to speak of it, but there are certain programs that BCF needs to be viable and successful. With their success come fans, full stadiums, potential national rankings and press.

Thankyou JR that is all I was trying to say. I'm sorry if he took it the wrong way.

True. Like those epic battles we had with yall in the 90s. Those were the good ole days. I really wish we can get back to playing you guys home and home. Hopefully that happens. Anyway, your post is dead on.

Whenever we decide to fork over the 50k for his buyout.

50K? Actually that is not a bad number. JSU got a nice contract clause in there. Well I guess it is up to the powers that be and the alums who will raise the money. But that is very doable if JSU wants to. If you don't buy him out, then how much longer is left on his current deal?

I think ya'll can look at the situation at Arkansas as an example. Do whatever you can to salvage the season but already start compiling a list of candidates.

I believe 2 years after this one. He just signed this new deal last winter.

What do you think of former FAMU DC Tim Edwards?

We got better when Earl Holmes was elevated above him. He subsequently found other employment if my memory serves me correctly. That was the TSU game in 2010, second half after TSU ran the ball down our throats in the first half.

Southern bout to turn this ship all the away around, watch in see..... The Defense is not Bad the special teams is very special, but the Oline and qB are Garbage... That dude couldnt hit super head with the lights on, and a flashlight point where her stuff is, he would still barely hit her leg...lol

Re: News On Southern Coaching

Somebody leaked it. I do think somebody met on it. Maybe not Stump. But you best believe someone in power met on this subject and then someone leaked it to the press. They don't need to ask him to resign anyway. They can fire him and just pay him out for the rest of the year. Something is brewing though. If I know SU like I think I do. Where there is smoke, there is fire. Broussard is not going to be allowed to make this decision alone and he seems like a guy who wants to have all his ducks in a row before doing anything. So I think the powers that be are circling the wagons trying to figure out what they want to do.
