Who's Been to the Olympics?

Personally, I'd take Houston over Atlanta in terms of southern cities.

Personally I'd take Atlanta over Houston for southern cities. Houston is a big nothing of a city. I mean who goes to Houston? Nobody. :emlaugh:

I like Houston. I have been there a few times the last couple of years and it is "phat." I can't say if either one is better. I guess it is all in preference. What I can say is I would choose Houston or Atlanta over Charlotte and would not blank. :emlaugh:

I was talking about things like economy, cost of living, career opportunities, etc. No other city in the South ranks as high.

Charlotte is too country for me. I wasn't impressed at all with that city.

We had been out there earlier that day too, but left early in the evening. I still remember staying up all night watching the news coverage, stunned at what happened.

I'm late getting in on this thread but TP was standing in that very spot not long before the bomb went off! Just think, ya'll almost never would have heard of the Week Later Theory!

But I must say that the 1996 Olympics was one of the greatest moments of my life. Even though I only went to like 2-3 events (We could easily get tickets to the lowly attended stuff since Tech was Olympic Village), just going down to Olympic Park or whatever it was called was just plain ole fun EVERY night. It was just one big party and the weather was perfect.

And the parties were off the chain.. that's when ATLANTA LIVE was the best club in the nation! Everyone from the Dream Team to Boyz to Men were throwing parties. If I could every turn back the hands of time to any year in my life, I would dial it back to Summer of 1996. :)

Your calculations would be grossly off track. If you look at it from a Metropolitan stand point where the city is the hub, Atlanta Metro has 5.3 million people compared to 1.8 million in metro Charlotte. Atlanta is spread out and have many things to do and places to go and is a transportation hub. I give props to Charlotte however a little closer comparison to them would be New Orleans.

He may mean the way some cities focus everything on downtown. When I was in ATL, even tho I was at Tech, I rarely partied, shopped, went to dinner, or hung out downtown. In Philly, except for shopping, I do everything downtown and doing things in downtown Philly is not even convenient. In ATL, I did more partying and hanging out in Buckhead, Stone Mountain, etc..

I have only been to Charlotte once and that was for a Kappa Conclave. It was nice but I would have to go there when there is nothing going on. You can't really judge a city based on an event with the exception of Freaknik...cause in ATL, a little version of Freaknik was always to be found.

That Publix has been closed for a minute. That place was being robbed blind. :emlaugh:

Man, I went to ATL in February for a Conference. I stayed at the Westin Peachtree. I asked the conceirge to show me how to get to a grocery store and I told him I preferred to walk. BIG AZZ MISTAKE. Man, that dude gave me the walking directions and I was like WTF! Downtown should never look like that. I went down this street and in an instant, I entered a 3rd world country. Crackheads and prostitutes and no telling what else was along the path. He sent me directly in front of a homeless shelter that may as well have been a loony bin. Dudes were shouting for me. Women were shouting for me. I just kept on walking becasue I figured I was close to the store. HELL NAW. I kept on walking... and eventually had to turn around.. I was scared as fcuk.. then people just starting coming out of nowhere. They were harmless but by this time, I was paranoid and if anyone said "boo", I would have pee'ed on myself. I had to walk back thru the area of these crackhead fools but I followed along behind some thugs so they would think I was with them. I was like "LAWD, if I get out of this... " Thugs or crackhead, prostitute, freaks.. :bawling: As soon as the thug crew (who I stayed 10 feet behind) turned into their hood housing complex, I could see the Westin and TP starting hauling azz. Heck I thought they were gonna turn around and put a gun on me at any moment. I got back to that hotel and cussed that dude out. I walked away from him... and a manager asked me what was wrong and I walked back over there and cussed him out again. Ain't no worse feeling that being pissed off and scared.

That ain't how nobody's downtown should be! I feel safer walking around downtown NYC.

Lol he sent you to the Publix on the back side of Ponce and took you down the street by the old Sci treck. Yeah he was sending you to meet your maker lol That is so F'ed up. I know the exact way he sent you. They wouldnt send Bane from Batman rises that way

LOL!! Sho ya right JSU2DEC...they dun sent TP on visitor get messed up and put on the news trail....

As for the Olympics, they were great, but I can understand a person who only had a momentary experience. I may say the same thing if I went to London and just stayed for a little while. I would have had tickets to the infamous Dream Team 1st game but I was out of town at a family reunion opening weekend and didn't get back till Wednesday. But I went to the consolation game of the LADIES bball right before the Dream Team final.
