I used to live over there when they first built it. To be honest, I think Publix wasn't the right fit for that area anyway. Too pricey for families in that area. Was good and convenient for the AUC students though.

I actually worked in that area when it was first built and it was really a big thing. I used to be on that strip every day at lunch. I used to kill that buffet at the old Pascals. :lol: :emlaugh: Also, hit up that Busy Bees quite often. I also use to love going to Scholars (on Morris Brown's Campus) on Fridays and killing that seafood buffet.

I thought we should have also...but it came down to politics and some of our Texas Olympians sold out to support San Fran, Chicago, and New York who became the three finalist for the U.S.A
If I'm not mistaken, I think Dallas put a bid in also for either 2012 or 2016. I'm not sure of the year.

yall bringing back Memories talking about MLK, Ashby , Pascals, etc... I use to live off Ashby on Beckwith for 2 years. Had a house right across the street from the AUC library. That was in 2000... after the Olympics and it was STILL hood then.... alot of transgender prostitutes, crackheads... etc.... I knew that Publix wasnt going to last as soon as it was built. A Wal Mart there is going to do major numbers if they can stop it from being robbed.... We use to have to drive all the way down Cascade to that Kroger to get to a decent grocery store when I was there ( before the Publix was built).

I think people want Atlanta to be something its not It's never gonna be as busy as New York or as flashy as Los Angles. It's going to be just what it is Atlanta is urban enough to know you in a major city, but country enough to know you in the South thats just what Atlanta gonna always be. Im not understanding Duece what you wanted to be Atlanta wasnt going to have the history of a Barcelona or Greece. I think I did Atlanta did everything they could do to put on a great Olympics.
I was going into my junior year of high school iin 1996 I marched in the opening ceremonies with the SouthWest Dekalb marching band. Worked as a usher for the Olympic Baseball which I had done the entire summer since I was working with the Braves ( Old Fulton County Stadium) Got to go to a couple of events tennis diving and basketball. We stayed at Olympic park everyday me and my younger brother actually got to eat lunch with women s basketball team randomly. Over all I had a great time . City wise to me the biggest transformation was the area now where Fulton county stadium use to be and where Turner field sits at now for that just to be parking and house is always amazing. I think I ate at that KFC that entire summer.

Houston is still in the dark ages when it comes to mass transit. I don't see the Olympics ever being rewarded to Houston until they address that issue. Its already going to be hard for another southern city or non-quintessentially American city(ie NYC,LA) after the Atlanta games were panned internationally.

I would put Charlotte over ATL simply based on dowtown life.. ATL downtown life is HORRIBLE for a city that size.

Your calculations would be grossly off track. If you look at it from a Metropolitan stand point where the city is the hub, Atlanta Metro has 5.3 million people compared to 1.8 million in metro Charlotte. Atlanta is spread out and have many things to do and places to go and is a transportation hub. I give props to Charlotte however a little closer comparison to them would be New Orleans.
