NCAA Announces Penn State Penalties!!!

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

I just fear for one of our sister schools to get in trouble for non-on-the-field or non-directly-related-to-players incidents now that we gave the NCAA extra power. Y'all should know once we (the people) give an entity more power, we will not get it back.

A lot of us on TSPN do not see the future ramifications of the Penn State penalties. I do, and they scare the shit out of me.

Only reason why Penn State ain't fighting the penalties, or will appeal the penalties, is because they have no leverage to do so. So they have no choice but to take it raw and like it.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

Not.

They could have taken all of their scholarships, fined them $600M, with 10 years of probation and it would not have been worse than the death penalty.

SMU still hasn't gotten over the death penalty.

Teams like USC, Miami and Alabama were given pretty stiff scholarship redutions, and came right back to win or be in contention for National Championships.

I won't even get into the embarrassment, and stigma the Death Peanalty would have caused.

Trust me, this ain't even close to being a death penalty.

I concur. They did not take them off of TV. And yes, they could have made all scholarship meet academic levels for football. Meaning whatever it takes to get an academeic scholarship at PSU, would be the requirement for a football scholarship.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

Agree with you Phreeze on how hypercritical the NCAA is, but they got this one right.....

And it Again...it Ain't never too late to Start doing right!

And I hope we (meaning all schools within this conference) get their act together. NCAA just made a move that cause a lot of coaches and AD's to get their act together off the playing field...

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

People, what is the big damn deal. Emmert did not have the power to do this so he went to his higher ups, which consists of college presidents, etc. and THEY GAVE HIM THE AUTHORITY to do it .... Case F'ing CLOSED!

All of you looking for precedence won't find it because this is the first time a slew of university ADMINISTRATORS directly withheld information that could, should, and did LEAD to a criminal case.

If the argument is that the NCAA did not have the power to govern one of its OWN DAMN MEMBERS, according to its bylaws or a special needs situations since nothing like this has happened before, y'all are seriously OUT OF YOUR MINDS.

This isn't like your job where your boss answers to another boss and so on and so on.

The NCAA answers to who concerning it's members?

I get that and that is exactly what the NCAA wants to do, BUT this also sets us up to do what we are SUPPOSED to and if we don't, just like APR, we deserve what we get OR we get the ______ out the NCAA. It's OUR choice!

I’m with you on this…nobody is forced to be a member of the NCAA.

No, you done lost your mind if you think an organization can just willy nilly "govern" any aspect of its members lives. Y'all clown to Kenn for being admonished for obvious posting infractions on this board. Let him try to restrict your posting privileges for something non-TSPN related. You'd think he done lost his mind. But he says he's governing his members. Folk have rules, regulations and bylaws for a reason. They outline limits and scope of their authority. Allowing this kind of thing to occur, just because of the egregiousness of the wrong, ain't right IMO.

Thank you for simplifying the deal in a way most of these folk can understand.

Man Robber this is a weak example....but more importantly Is not the the NCAA the GOVERNING Body of D1 College football...in which Penn State University competes in and within the rules and regulations, as well as the guidelines of this Governing body....Do you think the NCAA would open themselves up to legal issues against them if they didn't feel or know they had a STRONG Case.....Plus again...Penn State and the Powers that be at that University have accepted the punishments...which came from the findings of their own people....so if Penn State sees where they are in the wrong and accepts the fact that the NCAA does indeed have the authority to inflict restrictions and bands and fines and strip them of accomplishments....again why are you guys on here so upset?

If some visitor strolled into your office and told you to go home, you are no longer employed there.....Would you leave? But if you Boss strolled in and said that your services are no longer needed and to go home....well what you gonna do?......So obviously Penn State respects the fact that the NCAA is indeed their Governing body as it relates to the Football program and respects the fact that they can do just as they did and how they did it....

The reports are that the football program would have been suspended for multiple years had they contested these sanctions.

No one just gave the NCAA any power. According to the by-laws, they already had that power. It just took a special case like this for them to have to enact it. There is NO NEED for any one of us to be scared. This was a deep situation and if our schools dig themselves a hole like Penn State, then maybe they should be scared. It's not like this rule can apply if your HC rapes someone or molests someone. That is only going to get the coach fired and send him to jail. It won't harm your athletic dept. For those of you who think this is about to cause sweeping change, you don't understand what just happened and how (hopefully) unusual it is (and if it it's not unusal, the the NCAA ruling should put some heat on some necssary azzez! )

I really hate going up against my JSU people. IS ANYONE FROM JSU ON MY SIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Robber, ole buddy ole pal, the by-laws clearly state that this is NCAA jurisdiction. As a lawyer, you mean to tell me that the ethics laws would not apply here? Certainly you are not saying that. Those by-laws were already in place. They just never had a reason to use them before now.

Baylor University covering up a murder ring a bell? Isn't that a criminal issue? What did the NCAA do?

That was not simplyfying it. His example is not related to the matter at hand. In fact, NOTHING simple can explain what just happened and that is why you all don't get it. How is following ethics by-laws an exampe of "willy nilly governing"?

I'm not familiar with that case but I am familair with this one. Was the AD, coach, etc involved in that? Even if so, two wrongs don't make a right. They used to use that with me in a meeting a few months ago but just becasue something was done improperly before I even got here, means I'm supposed to let it go too? uuuum no sir. We doing thing the right way.

They blackballed the black coach that told the truth. In fact you can't find his name ANYWAY in Baylor's media guides despite being a former player. In fact Coach K even trashed this guy on ESPN.

Baylor was willing to let that boy be labeled a crackhead to protect the guy who killed him. Baylor got off lucky compared to Penn State.

NCAA just made a move that cause a lot of coaches and AD's to get their act together off the playing field...

In other words if you start seeing a lot of kids or staff get dumped from teams-coaches and ADs are cleaning house.

In case you didn't notice, Emmert didn't name one bylaw broken by Penn State. He stated morals and ethics over and over. There's no bylaw specifically governing ethics or morals when it comes to child sexual abuse.
A former NCAA official admitted this.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

And the sad thing is, these folk on here justa debating and defending Penn State and Jo Pa and all up in arms about how wrong the NCAA was to punish them for such horrible acts and the cover-up that came with them.....and all the while...the higher-ups at Penn State have accepted the punishment and are moving on....

lol... and these folk on here with no connects to the school at all on here with their panties in a bunch defending some clowns...no better word...MONSTERS! Sad...

When you post something halfway sensible, then I'll try and help educate you. Until then, stew in your own ignorance and delusional thinking.
Not one time did anyone claim that Paterno was right in what he did, so quit lying on folks.

I hope we never see a child molester protected at any school. It is bad enough that the Catholic Church has gotten away wiith what they have done to children.

Please explain the future ramifications.

Future ramifications are that the NCAA has over-reaching authority now that this precedent has been set. They can stick their nose in ANY situation, whether on or OFF the field, not having to do with sports.

This has nothing to do with protecting child molesters It has to do with individual schools rights being protected from an over-reaching NCAA.
Folks are letting emotions over run bylaws and statutes, which should never happen.
NEVER give up your legal rights cause you never know when they may come knocking on your door.
Penn State's President threw his entire school under the bus plain and simple.

As the old saying go, "two wrongs doesn't make it right, but it damn sure makes it even", because Penn State damn sure threw them little boys under the bus when they allowed a known pedophile to molest them for twenty plus years.

Dude, Sandusky, Paterno, the former AD, and former President threw those children under the bus. Get your facts straight. They were the guilty party. They're now being brought up on charges by the LEGAL system already in place.
How is punishing innocent folks helping the victims? Is that justice?

Even worse than that, the NCAA can go snooping into ANY program having nothing to do with sports. Folks just do't realize what's happened today.

NFL players fell into this same problem by giving one entity sole power and authority to make up rules as they go along and be the judge, jury and executioner. NFL players had no idea what they were giving Goodell just as Penn State's President doesn't realize the power and authority he's giving Emmert and the NCAA, then again MAYBE HE DOES, since he is close friends with Emmert.
