NCAA Announces Penn State Penalties!!!

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

Big Ten says Penn State will not receive any share of the conference revenues for 4 years.

I agree to this also. Luckily for Penn State that the Big 10 Conference didn't kick them out. Who wants to be associated with a university that allowed a known pedophile to freely roam their campus and do his dirty work?

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

I'm not talking about civil or criminal laws. I understand the difference. I was asking a specific question.

Do you think the families of those abused kids should sue Penn State?

I'm talking about civil and court issues. If they choose to sue, that's on them. Under our judicial system, they have that right.

Deuce,
I disagree. Teams like Bama, USC were given those penalties for recruiting violations and such. The Penn State scandal is much worse. On every level. Even after the penalties are served and paid, the stigma will linger on for YEARS. I honestly don't think they will rebound (back to the level it used to be) in MANY, MANY years. (if ever)

You missed my point.

I'm not comparing what Bama and USC did to what Penn State did. That would be silly.

My point is that its a lot easier to overcome scholarship reductions than it is to overcome having your program shut down for a year. I guarantee you that if you polled Penn State fans, 99.9999% of them would prefer the punishment they received over the death penalty.

And sure, it'll take them a long time to recover from this (the punishment, not the crime) but at least their name won't be mentioned (as SMU's is) every time somebody brings up the death penalty for the next 100 years.

Now as far as the stigma from what they did (the "crime") that's a whole 'nother story. They will, and SHOULD be stigmatized for that for the next 100 years, or more . . . .

Dizzammmmm!!! That hurts a little bit. I hope Duer and company aren't taking too many notes from this conference punishment. lol

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

It's crazy how ESPN is pushing that Bowmen is the winningest coach when they know damn well Coach Rob is. Robinson 408 vs Bowden 377. Very simple math. Don't try to split FBS vs FCS. Wasn't split before this scandal happened.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

Is moral and ethical an oxymoron to child sexual abuse? I think not! :emlaugh:

So you can't cite one bylaw in the NCAA manual relating to child sexual abuse? And why? Because the NCAA knew from the start that it was beyond it's jurisdiction.

Certainly, you jest! :emlaugh: ........agreeing to disagree and moving on

Actually, in most discussions it was.

No, I'm not jesting. Until you can cite an NCAA bylaw specifically related to child sexual abuse, I will disagree.
That's why we have child protective services, youth courts, civil courts, law enforcement, etc.
I don't see those entities coming in and trying to perform the duties of the NCAA.

The NCAA President has grown in power just like Roger Goodell and why? Folks handed it to them on a silver platter, but didn't realize it until it was too late. Saints fans should really take this to heart.

ESPN just put up a graphic showing Eddie Robinson on top and verbally acknowledged it.

What you (and Robber) are missing is the NCAA is a business with a governing board and by laws. Penalties levied on their membership is not subject or under the jurisdiction of an outside governing body. Of course anyone can sue. However, Penn State has endorsed a consent decree which makes legal contesting of the NCAA ruling a moot point.

This was overkill by the NCAA... I wiuld have went ahead with the death penalty. The ncaa is gutless, but damn this was some hard stuff. Then no big 10 revenue... Damn penn state.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

The NCAA are straight bytches! I'm not saying Sandusky should get a free pass or anyone else in the matter. But to punish kids that didn't have anything to do with what happen years ago is stupid. They should have given Penn st the death penalty and move the fcuk on.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

That's a copout. Penn State didn't commit any crimes, individuals did.

Jayrob, that is not true. This is common so I don't know why you seem so confused. ANYTIME a program gets in trouble, they get in trouble for the future. Asberry didn't do anything at TxSo and most of the kids and coaches there didn't either but they have to suffer the penalties. That's just how it works. That's the only way to punish a program.

I disagree. If they had received the death enalty (1 year ban), they would have come back and been allowed to restart like any other program and possibly without the lack of bowl and conference revenue. Now, they basically lose 40-80 scholarships over 4 years, depending on how it is enforced, $60M directly to the NCAA, and another $13M or so from the conference.

Robber ain't missed nothing. I understand this is an effort to legislate morality. The acts fall out of NCAA jurisdiction, but Penn State went along with it.

Bylaws?! Hahahaha!! You say the NCAA has bylaws?! I'm still waiting on you to show me that bylaw that specifically relates to child sexual abuse that's supposed to be on the books.
The NCAA made-up rules that was never on the books and Penn State simply cowered and let them get away with it.
It's as simple as that. They could've contested those penalties in court.

It is called collateral damage. In the NCAA's defense they did everything possible to mitigate the student athletes losses by giving them the right to transfer and play right away or not play and retain their scholarships. The ruling was a necessary one.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

Jayrob,

While lack of institutional control is enough, they stated this AM the bylaws that gave them the right to levy these punishments.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

All of Coach Robs wins were not at the D1 level... Some of them were naia and d2 wins. Also leave goddell alone. Those are grown men gettin paid to do a job. If I mess up at my job too many times I get fired.

I will agree to disagree.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

The NCAA made a moral decision similar to the way that players view coaches. There is not a written rule that a coach should act as a father figure per se...but we all can state that some coaches do perform in this role.

And neither were the others schools. The classification was once called "The University Division." Black Universities were not allowed to compete at one point.
