Re: Doug was trying to be professional but.........

We call greeks and band alums teenagers? How do those "teenagers" get to New Orleans then?

Most of them live within the New Orleans/Baton Rouge Area and they drive themselves. I've caught my nieces and nephews hanging out during Bayou Classic and they are from Alexandria. None of them would attend the game, but they definitely would attend the Battle of the Bands and Greek Show.

Also, I pledged and marched in the band, but hanging out at a Battle of the bands and a greek show are not one of my favorite type of entertainment.

That is you, it is a college football game so of course it is going to cater to the college crowd.

Re: Doug was trying to be professional but.........

Same stuff different year. This has to be the 1000th thread on BC attendance.

At the same time you guys are totally resistant to change. You want to keep doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. JC has given you 2 excellent options to immediately boost your attendance but you just brushed him off. Blacking out the game in southern Louisiana would conservatively boost your attendance by 20k. But no you don't want to do that. You want to continue to give people an option in whether to come fight the crowd and support the team or stay home in comfort.

NFL fans are much bigger zealots than BC fans are yet if they don't hit a certain attendance percentage the game is blacked out...I think even Monday night games are blacked out.

Y'all complain about hotel costs...well move the game to S'port one year and see if that helps you negotiate with NewOrleans better.

And right now your biggest problem is LyvoniaMitchell. Even hard core fans won't attend games to watch a bad product.
Casual local fans will pay to see a good competitive game but they are not going to pay for what LyvoniaMitchell has been putting on the field.

The lesson today...stop being so resistant to change.

Move the game date...NOPE WE CANT DO THAT
Black the game out....NOPE WE CAN'T DO THAT
Tape delay ....NOPE WE CANT DO THAT

Y'all can't take any suggestions to improve your failing results. You have now resorted to "well 40k is good enough."

Re: Doug was trying to be professional but.........

You never play your in state arch rival on the first game. No one does that but PV and TxSU and I think even they would benefit more if they played that game last.

I agree. But PV and TxSU do that. Even though they probably would be better served playing it the last game of the year for them. Especially if both teams are in contention for the SCG.

Bruh, that dog don't hunt for us. I was there when we use to play the game at the end of the season in the Astrodome/UH Stadium and it was atrocious. Although the numbers have declined these last few years (I don't understand why), the game is still better served as the start of the season. Being in Reliant right now is also a problem. It's too large for the contest and the cost to park is outrageous. A better venue would be Rice but we have problems getting them to let us use it and certain folks(administrators) are spoiled to using the skyboxes in Reliant. We'll see how it is next year when sTu host the game at BBVA Stadium. It will be a standing room only crowd since it only holds 22K.

Re: Doug was trying to be professional but.........

Just drop the damn ticket prices and more will come. They can also make the Bayou Classic BOTB's/Greek Show and The Actual Game a packaged deal, make the cheapest deal 25-30 dollars, i guarantee the attendance at both events will increase. Once the attendance is constant creep back up the ticket prices. Simple

So its SU's fault its in the mess. Damn you SU.

Like Coach Rob used to say........Give Em a Show. S.U. hasn't been doing that and our massive fan base don't play that. :emlaugh: We are going to get in quite a few schools behind this year though.

Say the same thing, every year. Give it a rest. Gary Coleman is your quarterback and he just don't have it.:emlaugh:

The game should be blacked out locally.

After reading all the comments in this thread...this really does make the most sense. The younger generation of Alumni aren't interested in sitting in the dome to watch a game after they've been out kicking it til the wee hours of the morning. Why? b/c they have the option of watching the game in a hotel, bar, or someone's house and eating/drinking all they want. Then get dressed and go kick it some more in New Orleans once the game is over.

Older Alumni WANTED and still want to be in the Dome.

The game needs to be blacked out locally.

This is a problem for us in general, we are incapable of making the hardcore business decisions sometimes.

Frat, I understand what you are saying. But PV football is a better product now and your school has grown since we all were in school. I imagine there is more excitement about PV football now than back then. I actually think PV and TxSU can make this work. Especially at that new stadium. Get out of that big Reliant Stadium and make it a must be at weekend. Not saying it would not take a lot of work. I just think PV and TxSU could make it work if you guys want to. When did the Labor Day Classic format start?

sTu use to play PV last but back in the day the records of both teams were so dismal that no one was coming to the games. The suggestion was made to move the game to the first game of the season during the Labor Day weekend when the records would be zip zip and crowds were good for a while. Moving things around for a fresh perspective sometimes help......and a good marketing campaign ALWAYS helps. So many times we expect the game to sell itself....in today's climate you need more......we have to get back to making these games and event....THE event.

I actually agree this game needs to be blacked out in New Orleans and BR until it is sold out. If it is sold out, then lift the blackout. Some tweaking is definitely necessary for the BC and SU does need to be winning since a lot of our older diehards are either to elderly to come or have passed on. This is not the same fan base from the early 90s that any of our schools have. So we have to adjust to those changes and make some improvements. The young alumni are more fickle than we were when we first came out of SU. These alums from SU who graduated during the Pete era got spoiled. They don't understand what it means to be a die hard Jag Fan. They were front runners. Some get it like JagtillIdie because he was raised that way. But a lot of them do not. So unless we are kicking arse and taking names they don't show up to the game. Then I know folks always dismiss the hurricane effect. But that still eliminated a lot of walk up fans who used to live in the city but never came back after Katrina. I certainly believe that. Not saying it is the main reason. But it does still have some effect. Heck before Katrina, you would have never had a white mayor. Now you do. The demographics have changed some.

I just think we allowed the BC to get a little stale even during the big crowds. You always have to improve on the product no matter how successful it gets. It is always room for improvement.

I never understood going down to party "around the event" and not going to the event. I hate to say that my fiancee' is in this group and it still boggles my mind. If I'm not going to the game, I damn sure ain't going to the area to be bother with the crap (traffic, people all over me, etc.) surrounding the event.

But, I am in the minority, hence where the BC is now. I actually agree with SS and others ... Black the Game out and force people in N.O. and BR to make a damn decision. Hell, BR people can still listen to it on the radio!

Re: Doug was trying to be professional but.........

Great points! I agree 100%. The mistake that hotels in the city are making is that they insist on labeling the BC as a special event. Unfortunately, it has diminished to the point where it is no longer special, but yet they insist on keep the rates high for that weekend.

How is it not a special event? It draws at least 70-80K folks to the city even now. That many people visiting a city of 350K is a special event.

BTW, Check the prices for the weekend before the Bayou Classic and compare.

Like Coach Rob used to say........Give Em a Show. S.U. hasn't been doing that and our massive fan base don't play that. :emlaugh: We are going to get in quite a few schools behind this year though.

And folks have the nerve to cause JSU fans fickle? You just admitted that SU folks don't play that, meaning they're fickle too.:emlaugh:

You can't guarantee anything. What can be guaranteed is that if SU starts back to winning, the attendance will definitely rise. As long as SU has Stump, his below-average recruiting and his embarassing playcalling, SU will continue to lose games they should win and barely win close games that should be blowouts.

If PV and Texas Southern had a good product at the end of the year, the crowd will come, but as of now, it's best to keep the game at the beginning of the season for obvious reasons.

I wouldn't say his recruiting is below-average. It's do or die for him so we will see.

Re: Doug was trying to be professional but.........

Thtas normal rates in NO. Folks have no problem payin for essence and other events. You have a entire year to prepare. No excuse. Again folks are in New Orleans. We have to get them in the game. We need to get rid of that management company that has no clue on how to un a black event.

You speak the truth! Those rates are normal and for the most part if a person does their homework they can find rooms in the $99 - $150 range. People need to learn how to book their rooms as they are checking out for the next years event. My family uses this event as sort of a family renunion weekend as those who live out of state come home for the Thanksgiving and Bayou Classic related events. I'm with you on a new management company as well. In a way I'm glad to State Farm go as the sponsor. All I will say is just sit back and wait, several major companies have already inquired about becoming the new sponsor.

It can't be average cause SU's record's not average. Stump was supposed to be "the man" when he was hired because he worked and played in the NFL. Well, guess that's not working out like some thought. In addition to that, the man has no business calling offensive plays. He needs to hire a real OC.

Inquiring and signing off on the dotted line are two different things. Good luck though.
