Re: Doug was trying to be professional but.........

I think marketing the game is a problem. But I don't think it's the only problem. I don't think it's the biggest problem.
If you put LSU vs Alabama in Montana on a cold December night, the stands would still be packed. And not because the television promotion and concert series was marketed properly.. .

I think the biggest problem we have is Alumni support. We as alumni just don't care anymore. We'll stay home and watch the game on T.V. Hell even have a watch party.. . Never would be the case in the 90's. Couldn't get a seat. BECAUSE PEOPLE CARED. Not because of marketing.

“I would like to, but I think being a football coach, I better stay in my place,” he said.

The first step is to know your limits. Thank goodness...he is finally coming around.

Kudos to Doug!

Re: Doug was trying to be professional but.........

Thats true...but the committee is like a promoter........they are paid to do a job....so if we know people would rather sit at home and watch the game.....what are we going to do to get people to want to get up and come out?

Id drop the prices $10-15 in certain areas

and get out and talk with local hotel,Parking lot owners, restaurants,Taxi business,ect....they all see the Bayou Classic as a get over weekend and raise the prices....they all got comfortable with the Bayou Classic producing big crowds and going up on the prices...they never looked at the decline in the crowd at the game....which means ....if the Bayou Classic decides to Move.....that turns into a normal weekend....no big payday

Cant speak for Gram, but SU alums/fans care. I think it's more of the matchup which has lost interest. SU and Jackson is the game that has our fans interest now. With that said folks are still in New Orleans. Just need to get them in the game. They need to stop all those free concerts outside the Superdome, that start the same time as the game. Have them inside the dome, after he game. And that company that is managing the BC has no business doing so. They have no clue.

The game should be blacked out locally.

Great points! I agree 100%. The mistake that hotels in the city are making is that they insist on labeling the BC as a special event. Unfortunately, it has diminished to the point where it is no longer special, but yet they insist on keep the rates high for that weekend.

As much as I hate to say this or bring it up again but I am truly supporting moving the game to the Labor Day weekend and playing the game on Sunday.

$200 or more a night plus $30 a night parking is wayyyy too much....we don't even use the rooms half the night

Re: Doug was trying to be professional but.........

How long will that last though?

Considering that the didn't understand the existing contract between GSU and ULM when he complained about comp tickets for his players and that he sued his employer because he didn't understand the process in getting his own contract done...one would think he'd just take it easy and coach. Leave this situation to those that are a little more prepared to deal with this situation.

You never play your in state arch rival on the first game. No one does that but PV and TxSU and I think even they would benefit more if they played that game last.

Thtas normal rates in NO. Folks have no problem payin for essence and other events. You have a entire year to prepare. No excuse. Again folks are in New Orleans. We have to get them in the game. We need to get rid of that management company that has no clue on how to un a black event.

He'll no. You don't play your rival the first week of the season. Where they do that at .

I agree. But PV and TxSU do that. Even though they probably would be better served playing it the last game of the year for them. Especially if both teams are in contention for the SCG.

You can't be a real sports fan if you want your biggest game vs your biggest rival in a CONFERENCE game to be the first weekend of the season. Lose that one and you are climbing a hill the next 11 weeks!

Re: Doug was trying to be professional but.........

essence is what Bayou Classic used to be for the black folks my age..that's the annual New Orleans trip...they would be better served by locking in someone like Maze on BC Weekend to get into that segment

As of now, the LDC is better served for the beginning of the year...

Exactly. Folks are quick to panic lol. 40,000 is great for a FCS game. A winning SU cures all.
