Doug Williams is afraid of competition

I thought you suppose to schedule a sorry team for homecoming.I am sure Doug is not afraid of competition. The downfall for assuming.who ever made this thread just trying to find reason to criticize Doug.

That's true, a lot of Gramblingnites are just jealous of Doug. On the other hand if he had something to do with the scheduling of this VU team it is akin to making alums stay in the parking lot for homecoming and not entering the game. I will let the Piney Woods committee decide how to handle this dilemma. The council of presidents and the SWAC commissioner is complicit in this crime and should be made to pay restitution by altering bylaws.

Its a difference between Sorry and Piss Poor. Sorry is Valley, Howard...scheduling VUL is down right terrible... And I Dont think scheduled this game..

I think Valley will surprise you all.

Valley is gonna surprise a lot of folks... Don't yall sleep on Valley. That's a good staff and they've been recruiting and retaining. Ain't that much difference in talent throughout the league...it's a matter of conditioning and coaching!

Doug needs that lifetime contract from Grambling and a few buildings name in his honor, starting with the stadium.

Why are we talking about 1-A for this game? This is Grambling homecoming and no 1-A school will travel to Grambling for a game.

We are not talking about a 1-A for this game. We are just saying that there is no need to complain about GSU playing a creampuff when we jump for joy and do the :happydance: when a 1-A invites us to be their creampuff. Let VUL do the :happydance:

My view.
With all those FCS schools within 150 miles of Grambling, they could have found a decent FCS opponent for that game.
Northwestern La., Nichols, McNeese, San Houston, SFA, Southeastern La., etc.

Man, that is easier said than done. If GSU calls one of them, the best they will do is ask GSU if they can get back to them. See, those schools on the phone with Penn State, Oklahoma, etc... When then kill these 1-A vs 1-AA games, we can get some real games again. Those schools will only call GSU back once Ohio State tells them they booked someone else.

How would we know.
Mofo's don't even pick up the phone to even see. And since when has the Mcneese, Nicholls, SFA, Northeastern, Southeastern, and etc., been on the phone with Penn State and nim? :noidea:

That is just another excuse to make "ourselves" feel better about not getting games. I remember people saying FUGG them simply because they asked us to come to their house first. I have seen the majority here take that as the insult of all insults and would openly say fugg that. Screw them and not sign contracts because of it.

BUT if what you say is the case, (can't convince me that it is), We have snubbed them and FCS for so long, I can honestly say I don't blame them if that is the case.

No our schools on the Phone begging for those schools,

He stands a chance of someday having the field named in his honor... in fact as long as there's no major scandal under his name it will be a done deal once he's done coaching.

Although I don't think Doug is afraid of playing these folks, he is afraid of losing to them. It would stick in his craw...but that's a good thing. That means he will get it done in terms of beating them.

Our schedule could be tweaked to be one of the best in FCS football in terms of playing an attractive schedule and making some money.

#1. Make the PCC our FCS neutral site game with rotating teams from FCS...I would start with the in-state and regional opponents and build it from there.

#2. Continue to play the 2nd game versus a BCS Conference school... The Recruits like it and it's a good way to fill the coffers

#3. We have 2 Classics... SFC and Bayou Classic, everyone else is home and home.

#4. In the 12 game season, play a MEAC Rival...since Doug is the Coach, make it Howard in DC. To market it as Doug vs B'way, play A&T in Atlanta.

Win against that Schedule and we'll see our program really take off as a top FCS program...right now, we are not, but we can be!

But MB, isn't that one in the same? If he is afraid of losing to them...then he is still afraid. When Doug agreed to play McNeese in home and away games (2002 and 2003) he had just completed the 2001 season with one loss (well we actually went undefeated due to a Bama State forfeit) and had won a SWAC championship. There was nothing but talent on that squad. He scheduled those games thinking he could win those games because he probably felt he had the talent level to complete...in fact, so did most of us. If Gram was to lose that first game, nobody would have suspected it would have been by 32 points. Talent wasn't the issue in either of those games we lost to McNeese. It was coaching. He and his staff simply got out-coached. And I don't think he wants that side of him to be potentially exposed again. We saw it again when he got shut out the next year (on national TV) to the worst team on the FBS level in San Jose State. Any other decent D1-AA wins that game.

I remember watching that game and thought Grambling had a chance the way ESPN was hyping them (Grambling) up...

Bro...it goes both ways. We have them on hold trying while MS State sweet talking us on the other end. This has become a sad trend.

.

What do you mean? Haven't you seen their schedules? I think last year there were like 70-80 1-A vs 1-AA matchups. :smh:

I give a pass on the first loss to McNeese... we were in rebuild mode and Bruce wasn't ready at all. The second one was a case of pass happy offense against a team that was balanced and played good run defense.

Style of play is what gets us... we abandon our run game. With the size Olinemen we have...man, I'd run on the Giants. Oh, I would still pass with the Pro I formation offense...but I'm running it at least 40-45 times a game.
We (coaches and fans) don't have the patience for that style of football... I don't understand that mindset.

Try again.
That 2012 Mississippi State game was set up the same year we played them in 2009.

Mississippi state coach said then he was going to play the 3 FCS schools on a rotating basis. The next year, 2010, he had Alcorn and Brandon Bridges. Valley was supposed to be last year but the year before, Valley didn't get any recruits and they let that game fade off the schedule.

Watch................ Next year it will be Alcorn again.

I've said I commend MSU for doing that simply because it makes no sense for them to pay all of these out of state FCS schools when 2 of the 3 FCS schools in MS are 1 1/2-2 hours from Starkville (same with MVSU and Ole Miss being close).

Same with USM and their proximity to JSU and ASU. I'm not fond of I-A/I-AA games but I understand them and in Mississippi's case, it makes a lot of sense financially and geographically (since all three I-AA schools are in the same conference).

Got to give Mississippi States coach credit because he kept his word. He came in, said he was going to do it, and did.

He said it made no sense to schedule some FCS school that nobody know around here like MAINE for a game when he got 3 FCS schools less than 100 miles away from the Mississippi State campus. Since one FCS game will count for them, keep the money in-state is what he said.

Agreed.

It makes a lot of sense. Why give that money to Maine when you can give it to a school in your own state? Not only that, but playing JSU, Alcorn or Valley is much more interesting because folks know each other. The players tend to know each other. The fans know players on both teams. I actually went to the Alcorn-MSU game with a family that had players on both teams.

If Gramblingnites are not careful, they will make Grambling out of a coaching graveyard. This coach has given too much to Grambling to be so consistently criticized and have his intelligence questioned. If I didn't know it, I could swear this is a 1978 thread of confused white men from the NFL. Now if the Piney Woods Conclave don't like the VUL game just say that and stop the character assassination. Work to have something put in place so this doesn't happen again. The SWAC media should not be used as a tool to drag Doug through the mud. Southernites will do it soon enough the next time he gets Molly Whopped in the Bayou Classic.

Frat in Lynchburg (Basileus of Gamma Omega Chapter and the Western Area I Supervisor in the 3rd Dist.) was on VUL campus today. He said Grambling better not sleep on VUL.

There has been no official news from GSU yet, but I just got word that Grambling will be playing Virginia University of Lynchburg for homecoming in 2012. What a freakin joke!

It is 957 miles from Lynchburg, VA to Grambling, LA and the best we could could do was VUL?...a school that just brought back football last year for the first time in 57 years?

This is proof that he is afraid of quality competition. Nobody will be surprised about us losing to TCU and they sure as hell wont be surprised about us beating VUL. He has nothing to lose or gain playing against either of these opponents.

What a joke!

No way this can be true. I use to live in Lynchburg. The College has only three buildings and no one lives on campus. Most of the students are going to seminary.
