Longstanding tension between Republican Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and Democratic President Barack Obama flared into the public spotlight Wednesday just after Air Force One touched down in Phoenix.

Brewer, who was on the tarmac to greet Obama, hand-delivered a letter before engaging the president "intensely" for several minutes, including pointing her finger directly at him, according to Politico's Carrie Budoff Brown, acting as a pool reporter for other media outlets.

Accounts from both camps later said the terse talk focused on Brewer's book - "Scorpions for Breakfast: My Fight Against Special Interests, Liberal Media and Cynical Politicos to Secure America's Border."

The book, which was released in November, describes a June 2010 Oval Office meeting between Obama and Brewer aimed at diffusing conflicts surrounding Arizona's controversial state immigration law and the administration's immigration policy.

At the time, the White House called it a "good meeting," while Brewer's staff said it was "cordial."

But Brewer paints a much different picture in her book.

You know she has folks her in circle congratulating her for being disrespectful. I even heard about a foreign news broadcast where the foreign reporter exclaimed that it was disrespectful.
 
They are all beside themselves now. They are so mad, they can't even see straight. I'm glad that Obama didn't stoop to her level of disrespect though. It only goes to show how far beyond that he really is...and it showed how unintelligent she looked. I would have been condescending and patronizing to her azz too. Don't come at me sideways and expect me to take anything you say seriously. I'm sure that as the President of the United States, Obama will have his ways to tell that woman (and her racist ways) to kick rocks down that tarmac.
 
Its only going to get worse once Obama wins this 2nd term. These white folks can't stand it. They are taking it out on the black community too...this is the main reason why our unemployment rate is so high & not getting much better. These white folks are steaming hot at black folks because of Obama. Displacement.

I think the only thing more shocking than us thinking we have a black President one day, was white people having to serve under a black President...its really exposing them for who they are. By Oct...we are going to start really seeing these guys come out there face.
 
Now I don't agree with how she has handled this or her disrespect, but I agree with her stance on protecting the borders of her state...

Never in my life I have I experienced so many people get defensive and up in arms over the smallest perceived slight as it relates to the POTUS. I'm sure during closed door meetings in the White House President Obama gets into heated exchanges quite frequently.

There was a recent story published about now Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel getting into all sorts of clashes with President Obama during meetings -- and he was his right hand man. This exchange with Jan Brewer just happened to be in public.

By no means have I ever supported the GOP, but when President Bush was being called every name aside from the child of God by the public, political officials and even in the press, there wasn't this overwhelming sentiment that he was disrespected and needed to slap someone or Laura Bush need to exact revenge on those individuals.

It is my belief -- and I might be wrong -- that African-Americans have felt the need to build a wall of protection around President Obama because their very identity and reputation hinges on the successes or failures of No. 44.

Black people are under Obama's spell. You see it how he's covered by the black press and the liberal press and elsewhere. We romanticize about him playing basketball, how much of a sports fan he is, his relationship with his wife and kids and even that he can spit a few lines from an Al Green song.

And if anyone doesn't feel the same way about Obama that his supporters do, then they must be racists, conspiracy theorists, jealous or engage in self-hate.

You want to know who are the fools? People who think politicians really care about them. Dr. King, a far better man than President Obama, actually cared about people. During his campaign President Obama said if there were union workers who were being given a hard time, he would be right there with them marching in the picket line, too.

Last time I checked, he wasn't in Wisconsin, Ohio, Florida or anywhere else where union workers being railroaded. Dr King would have been marching. He would have been in those picket lines.

You think he would approve of this cat signing bills to invade our privacy, detaining us for dissent, authorize the killing American citizens without evidence or trial and bombing African nations just because he wants to?

You think Dr. King would have gone on national TV and said those who were responsible for the market meltdown did nothing wrong like President Obama did on 60 Minutes? You think Dr. King would have told his supporters to stop crying, complaining and grumbling because they were concerned about poverty and high unemployment? You think Dr. King would be beholden to wealthy Wall Street thugs like President Obama is?

Obama is doing a lot of the same things Bush was doing. In some cases even more. But since he's on the left, nobody cares. If Obama was in the GOP, we'd be screaming bloody murder. And the sad part is both parties are playing us for fool, but folks don't realize it.


Right now we are living in a time where folks, everybody, needs to stop being blinded by loyalties to a party or an individual or an idea because these entities and people are only looking out for themselves at the end of the day.

And they polarize the sheep by playing into their fears, faulty prejudices and insecurities, which only divides people instead of constituting real progress and change that we have long sought. While we are fighting about race, politics etc., we are slowly being robbed of our wealth, our freedom and our rights.

The problems that America is facing NOW were not the problems America faced BACK when Dr. King was fighting and marching for civil rights. The issue THEN was inequality in justice, jobs, and civil rights. And yes, Dr. King did appear on national television and spoke out against those who were against civil rights for all; he offered outreach to those who opposed, inviting all to pull together and do/say what's right. During that time, Dr. King did meet with those who were wrongfully jailed, wrongfully fired, and denied rights. He encouraged all to fight and stand for equal rights for everyone.

As for President Obama, he went on television and rightfully exposed those who were responsible for the market meltdown. Huge payoffs, bonuses, reckless spending of corporate CEOs helped contribute to the meltdown; working class was NOT responsible, according to President Obama. America has the right to know who's responsible for the drain on the economy, especially the hardest working class America (middle class). And because President Obama pushed to have the bailout for Wall Street and those big banks, so what? No one is beholden to him for it, and I'm quite sure that he does not see it that way, but a means to try to fix a much broken economy. Like Dr. King, President Obama has extended an outreach to the Republicans, the Tea Party, Democrats, and all of America to be innovative and ingenuitive, bring ideas to the table instead of criticism. Like Dr. King, President Obama has met with a lot of Americans who have to make the choice every week, every other week on whether to buy food or pay bills, whether to eat or buy medication; those who are affected most by the problems we face now. Dr. King was an activist for the issues of that time just like President Obama is an activist on issues of our time. Both men addressed the need for America during his time. And both men continued to push Americans to raise voices and speak out.

The point is both men recognized a need for change and both dared to bring change, regardless of the era. Both men were the subject of racist ridicule, both had racist jokes/comments about them, and now and then, many were outraged by it and spoke on it. It was disrespectful then and it is still disrespectful today.

2. Obama can't be too hard on Wall Street because several Wall Street types work in the White House, and some of his biggest donors are Wall Street moguls.

3. You said so what that Obama pushed for the bailout. Well, as a result, the banks have become too bigger to fail than they were in 2007-08. We're $15-16 trillion in debt, with a lot of that debt racked up during this administration.

4. You know what President Obama did in an attempt to get things done in Washington? He put Social Security and other entitlement programs on the table for chopping. Not the GOP or the Tea Party. Our president did that. Just like he extended the Patriot Act, signed NDAA a law that can imprison Americans for perceived dissent and/or threats against the country.

- Obama has increased drone strikes eight times over what the Bush administration did across two terms. (Didn't Obama win the Nobel Peace Prize?)
- He prevailed upon the Environmental Protection Agency to pull back anti-smog legislation as part of the Clean Air Act. The U.S. with China and India is the worst carbon emitter in the world.
- He promised immigration reform - a key promise given that 26 percent of the electorate is Latino. In 2010, his administration arrested more migrants – 393,000 - than any administration before (81,000 more than in President George W. Bush’s last year in office).
- Oh, and he also supports genocide (I mean, a woman's right to choose).
- And gay marriage.
- Like the Bush administration, the Obama administration has successfully pushed for immunity for companies that assist in warrantless surveillance of citizens, blocking the ability of citizens to challenge the violation of privacy.
- The Obama administration has successfully defended its claim that it can use GPS devices to monitor every move of targeted citizens without securing any court order or review.

5. President Obama doesn't even talk about the plight of the poor. Some 46 million Americans live in poverty in America. Yet, during his SOTU address, Obama didn't mention the poor once. He, like all pols, continue to mention the middle class. You think Dr. King would have neglected to mention the poor?

6. Finally, people like to think that everything is going to get better in America. It ain't - no matter who the president is. We're in a tremendous amount of debt and the job market is shot. Black unemployment went up (even though the Labor Department reported the national unemployment rate went down) and more people are on food stamps, welfare and other forms of public assistance than ever before. In August the White House reported that unemployment among young African Americans was 32%; by December it had jumped to 41.3%. And folks are walking around thinking everything his fine and dandy. Rome is burning.

Are you sure you want to compare President Obama to Dr. King?

If I'm not mistaken, you're the one who made the Dr. King/President Obama comparison in your post. I simply pointed out that Dr. King was concerned about racial and/or judicial inequality that Black and other minority Americans were receiving during the 50's and 60's. From your post, you compared Dr. King's concern for the poor versus President Obama's alleged lack of concern for lower class (poor) America. Yet during Dr. King's speeches, I don't recall him mentioning the plight of the poor; I do remember him speaking out and making a stand for those denied the basic, civil rights that the Constituion entitled Americans. I remember him marching form equal pay, fair jobs, civil liberties. I don't remember him being jailed for speaking out for the poor but rather for sit-ins, marches, demonstrations.

The Healthcare Reform has the Education Recovery Act which raised the federal pell grant from $5500 to $6000; this covers some college costs for children of lower class Americans (the poor). The Healthcare Reform will afford lower working class Americans the luxury of having some insurance as opposed to no insurance at all for themselvs and families. The auto bailout helped save jobs in Michigan; most assembly line workers represent the lower working class Americans (the poor). And all those town hall meetings President Obama has had; were not lower class Americans present to present concerns to the President? I don't see how the President is not addressing the needs of the poor/lower working class Americans.

I won't go into the politics of what President Obama has/has not done, because this thread is about the disrespect this particular President has been given because of his race and NOT because of his stand on political issues. As you mentioned, President Obama has done things similar to the Bush2 administration and also the Clinton administration, but not once were either called a "LIAR" during the SOTU address; none had caricatures of them portrayed as monkeys, eating watermelon; neither had jibes about how their wives favorite bedtime snack is a plate of ribs (that was one of the racial jibes aimed at First Lady Michelle); neither had to go through the ordeal of having to produce a document to prove citizenship. We all know this because this particular President is Black. I'm glad Rickey Smiley said what he said on his talk show.......we have to get out of our slave mentality and stand up and speak out about racists things being said and done about the POTUS. We need to get mad and stay mad. Ironically, it was Dr. King who stood up and spoke against racial inequality......we now need to stand up and speak out against racists verbal attacks on the POTUS. Even if you don't like President Obama, we should at least respect him as human being......if not, have a respect for the Office he holds.

You think President Obama is the first cat in office to get heckled or disrespected while in office? President Bush has been portrayed as a monkey several times. In fact, a New York art exhibit had to be closed because a painter used images of monkeys to form the image of President Bush. The name of the piece was called "Bush Monkeys". Then there were a ton of references to Bush as Curious George. Comedy Central had a short-lived series during his presidency called "That's My Bush" which poked fun at the Bush family. And we all know there were countless jabs at the man's intelligence. Bush was even heckled/booed by Dems during a SOTU address

Bottom line every president gets threatened, heckled and disrespected during their tenures in office - some worse than others. We knew Obama, especially being black, wouldn't be any different in that regard.

You mention that Dr. King marched for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties. Well, don't you think if he had been alive today, he would be marching for President Obama to restore the Civil Liberties he and Bush have taken away? Dr. King was anti-war. You think he would have condoned President Obama bombing Libya? I'm sure he would have marched about that, too. You think he would have not told President Obama to address black unemployment? It took months for President Obama to even acknowledge it, all the while folks who did mention it were being told to be quiet or Obama is not the president of Black America or that Obama can't specifically address black issues.

With that said, I don't have much respect for the office of the president because the office of the president hasn't had much respect for the citizens of this country in ages. They take us to war, killing innocent women, men and children of foreign nations in the process. So many of our young men and women fight for them and either end up dead, maimed or suffering from PTSD. They sign laws that restrict the freedoms and rights of the public and do the bidding of the rich.

People like to think their vote matters. It doesn't. The authorities rightly fear the people's voice, and so have contrived law and custom to ensure that we are seldom heard and almost never heeded.

They would never dream of allowing us to vote on the price of gas, food, housing, credit or college tuition or to raise or lower taxes. But they don't mind at all letting us choose between corporate-funded Republicans and corporate-funded Democrats. The powers that rule our economy, our media and our politics won't let us vote on whether to bring the troops home from 140 countries and the seven seas, or whether to continue spending more on weapons of death and destruction than the other 95% of humanity combined.

But they will let us choose between an ignorant, crazy or racist Republican who promises to give banksters, polluters and corporate criminals a free pass, and a sane, smart, level-headed free market liberal Democrat who does exactly the same thing, no matter what he promised.

So at the end of the day a pol getting in the face of the president on a tarmac is nothing compared to what Obama and other presidents have done to this nation and its people or other nations and its people.

In fact, a New York art exhibit had to be closed because a painter used images of monkeys to form the image of President Bush. The name of the piece was called "Bush Monkeys". Then there were a ton of references to Bush as Curious George. Comedy Central had a short-lived series during his presidency called "That's My Bush" which poked fun at the Bush family. You mention that Dr. King marched for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties. Well, don't you think if he had been alive today, he would be marching for President Obama to restore the Civil Liberties he and Bush have taken away? Dr. King was anti-war. You think he would have condoned President Obama bombing Libya? I'm sure he would have marched about that, too. You think he would have not told President Obama to address black unemployment? Again, I mentioned Dr. King because YOU first mentioned him in YOUR post. Secondly, those political jibes about Bush2 were not racial since they came from white America. When white people are called monkeys, it is not a racial slur since they have NEVER been negatively associated with monkeys by any race. Since we Black people are viewed by whites as "porch" monkeys, "dance" monkeys, monkeys period, it is very racist. But if you think Bush2 was the target of racial slurs because he was called a "Bush Monkey", that's your opinion. As for jabs at Bush2's intelligence, well he was not very intelligent and proved himself to be very dumb almost every time he opened his mouth. I'm not naive enough to know that past Presidents have been the brunt of jokes but again, none have ever been racially ridiculed, called a Muslim, or have had people put fingers in their face. So what Bush2 was "heckled"? There is a difference between being "heckled" and having a member of Congress to shout out and call the POTUS a "LIAR!". Furthermore, for someone who thinks votes don't matter, you sure do mention Dr. King a lot in your posts; he marched, was jailed, and died for voter rights for those who had been voter suppressed. He, Malcolm X, Medgar Evers died for this, Rosa Parks went to jail for this, and you think what they sacrificed for doesn't matter?:xeye::xeye:To each his/her own. And lastly, again, this thread is about the aggressive, blatant, downright inexcusable disrespect President Obama continues to receive. I hope no white woman or any person puts her finger in your face while talking to you.
