An Ironic Situation

I know for a fact that ESPN televises the FCS championship game... That's the prize!
does anybody watch it? Imagine the next HBCU that makes it to the FCS championship game and the result that would have on recruiting students and student-athletes.
sorry Biggs, but I doubt the whole country is sitting around filled with anticipation for that game. I wonder how many of us, without looking, could even tell you who played in it last year. :scared:

For one thing, they're gonna be looking for games...Revenue games. That means they will play BCS schools for a million bucks and then look to buy some games from us to help with their stadium capacity/attendance issues. Our AD's have to be smart and make sure we get paid a good "subcontractor" fee. I'm looking at ULM's schedule and see that they're playing Fla State for a million...then they're paying me $250k up front and 7k tickets. My flat rate from BCS conference schools is $500k minimum. I'm using my remaining non-conference (providing the SWAC stops the 9 game and make it 8 mandate) to play a local/regional FCS opponent to get a good Playoff seeding!

We have to look at other options and the time to do that was 8 years ago.

I'm guessing folks have been saying that for 34 seasons.

Yeah... folks have been saying it, but I don't think our coaches and AD's have targeted that as a goal. I understand their reasoning in the past... but as I look around, I don't think that
approach is gonna work anymore. I honestly think we are losing ground and allowing our market share to abandon us. We don't even step outside and play the upper echelon MEAC members
anymore unless it's the Challenge. We're slipping!

Dude, do you know how many black kids would love to see a HBCU on TV playing for a Championship? And I mean nationwide. Do I want only black kids looking at our team/school? Nooooooooooooo, but we have to start somewhere. I would love for white, asian, latino, etc... to watch our product with a desire of "I want to go to the school Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, etc.... played at." We have to start somewhere. Do you even know how many watched the D2 Championship? We even had a thread on here about Delta St vs N. Alabama in the championship.

But I bet we could tell who was playing in it if it was US!!! I look at that picture of your new facility... it's impressive. It would be impressive to even more folk if they got to see it on television.

J4L, it's funny that you would say this about bringing exposure and money to our schools, but on another thread you write this:

Other teams want in because they will make 3-4 times more in the Big 12 than they are making in their current conferences, even with UT and OU making more.

But it's wrong for us to examine and research other options that would bring our schools more money? Is that what you're saying? That they can research options for their schools that would pay off dividends, but our schools should be happy where they're at and what they're receiving? Is that what you're saying?

You're right and I agree. However, that won't change my belief that the FCS championship game aint circled on most folks calendars as must-see tv.

Say MH, I'm STILL waiting.........................

Can you tell me (since you're asking questions) what the hell a conference is good for? What's the benefits and liability of being in a conference that doesnt go out to expose their product? Can you tell me that?

ummm beans, I said earlier that I didn't know.

Regarding sponsorships, I don't know what the SWAC office did/didn't do. You seem to say that you do. How do you know? How did the ESPNU deal fall in the SWAC's lap? I don't know what the SWAC put in school's pockets in the 80s or now. You seem to say that you do. What are those amounts?
so I'm still waiting on you with all the details.

again, I preciate it.

The playoffs surely won't make more money. That's what I'm talking about.

I didn't say anything about moving up, just about using the playoffs as a vehicle.

I do agree the 9 game mandate needs to go. We can keep the SCG and make it work, but we need 4 OOC games. The problem is not the SWAC office on that, but our AD's who want do their jobs.

J4L, we have to use what we have. Right now the FCS playoffs is a vehicle that is at our disposal. That's one option. Moving up is another. We have to weigh our options and do what's best for our schools/programs.

beans,
All that crap you kept popping off about what the SWAC is paying schools (80s and now), sponsorships, etc, was just that CRAP. You having a gripe session, hurling accusations all the while having NOTHING concrete to back up the stuff you were posting. As CEEDOG posted.........."yapping"

:smh: Hell MH, talking to you is like talking to my 2 yr old nephew mane. Just take a look at your own school. Did the SWAC office help you all in getting your new facility? Are they helping you all increase your attendance by promoting your school/games? Didnt your "biggest" classic just get a sponsor or did they have one before? If they did have a sponsor before, did the SWAC help to get that sponsor or your two schools? You can answer these questions for yourself to see what the conference is doing for your school. How long did you all have to use those football trailers before upgrading? Did the SWAC help you all get those funds to upgrade those trailers? So, what is the SWAC actually doing for YOU guys?

Did you hear that Norfolk State decided not to bid for a playoff game because of the cost?

Tell me how the playoffs will do anything to make more money?

beans,
If you think the SWAC office should be in the business of building a stadium for ASU or any other conference school, then ummmm ok.
:retard:

damn!

but I digress, I'm still waiting on those amounts the SWAC paid in the 80s and now! Gon and post them, since you said the numbers are the same. Let us all see that. You called the SWAC on it. Now deliver the goods.

:smh:

Mh, c'mon mane, you're more intelligent than this. Stop playing the dumb role, cause you're doing a very bad job. You know what I'm saying. The SWAC isnt bringing in any more money than any other broke FCS conference. If they were, then yeah they would be helping you all build your stadium by you all using the funds that you're getting for being in this conference. But since this conference is broke, then you all have to go out and find the funds yourself. Financially, this conference isnt doing anything for our schools. But we can understand why some FBS schools jump ship on their conference to head to other conferences where more money is being made and shared. But we'll stay in this broke conference and allow it to take us down to Hades because of some faction of loyalty.

I know... but I think "our" audience would be and not just local but nation wide. Somewhere in Chicago there's a family that sees Bama State's new facility, while watching your team host and win a FCS playoff game. They look at that environment does some research on your school and decides they would like to know more and possibly enroll. Replay that scene in countless African American homes... Exposure.

And I understand them... but what if the QB club and other Boosters decide that before they leave this earth, they want to host a playoff game at Mumford.
You'd make your bid money back damn near on parking and tailgate spaces!
