Scottie Pippen: LeBron might be better than Michael Jordan

The hate against Lebron is nothing more than ESPN and sports radio driven outraged. Magic played with Worthy and Jabar. Bird played with Parrish and McHale. Before them, it was way worse. Notice now every ESPN analyst love them some King. They are looking for one thing... Ratings. Even if they are manipulated...

Yeah, how soon we forget at one time Jerry West, Elgin Baylor and Wilt played on the same team in Los Angeles or the C's winning 11 championships in 13 years from the late 50s to late 60s.

How many teams were in the NBA in those years? The league was just starting out good which is why those teams were so dominant. The pool of players were concentrated. As for the Laker teams in the 80's atleast they had a team that could battle with them...the Celtics...it made the NBA great. Those games meant something to the fans. This right now is just boring.

Again what team in the NBA now has this type of talent to combat the Heat? I'll answer NONE.

Most importantly, the discussion is about LeBron being BETTER than Mike J. It just isn't going to happen. How soon we forget? Do you guys want me to post MJ's stats and not just compare them with Lebron but any wing player you can thing of...he will dwarf them. And no, MJ never had a 3rd option scorer that could hit 30 at will. In the end, it was always on Mike..tough double teams, traps & all. Pippen is the only comparable person and that's because his defense was so great & he could score off the dribble. Pip wasn't that good of a shooter. His best year ever was him averaging like 20 a game only done twice in the Bulls championship runs (without MJ he avr 23).

Mike's leadership MADE Kerr & Armstrong be ready to hit those shots in crunch time. Lebron wimped out on his teammates as a leader. His physical ability is unquestioned...he just isn't the Leader that MJ was. Nobody is. I really believe MJ is crazy. Like out of his mind competitive to be as great as he was at his craft...somethings got to be wrong with you upstairs lol.

LeBron wanted to play with his friend and with the Heat... I don't see the problem with that. Freedom to move around was an option and he exercised his option. Big Deal!!!!

Man, I'm sick and tired of old heads saying the late 80s and 90s were so much better than the NBA right now. The reason many people feel that way is because the sport was aided by television, marketing and promotion of star players and teams. Prior to that the NBA Finals were on tape delay.

And a lot folks became enamored with the circus because it was the first time many of the fans were exposed to that collaboration. It was special because it was new.

I thought the 90s was a great era in NBA history. Being a Bulls fan for me was great because I got to see my favorite team win six championships.

But I can also put it in perspective as well. Nothing will be better than the old thing or era because whatever the new thing is can't match the emotions folks had back in the day. Everything else afterwards doesn't seem to live up to or match it. It was exciting back then because it was really the first time we experienced the hype and build up surrounding those games, teams and players. The new car smells fades over time.

Now that we can see NBA games any time we want, read and watch different views about the league 24/7/365 on TV and the web, it's not special anymore. It's old hat now. It's not exciting to us because we've nearly seen and experienced it all.

I wonder if M.J. paying some of ya'll bills for him to be defended this hard. Jordan was the best player I've ever seen. But it is not a crime or even far fetched to say another cat might one day be better than him. Get this. Magic Johnson played in the NBA Finals nine times in 12 years by the age of 31 (winning three league MVPs and three NBA Finals MVPs).

Jordan ain't do that. In fact, he didn't make the Finals the first time until he turned 27. But you would be hard pressed to find a lot of people who believe Magic is better than Jordan.

Now nobody is the leader Michael Jordan was? Didn't Bill Russell win 11 championships with one being as a player/coach? So that blows that argument out of the water.

The only cat right now who ain't better than Jordan is Jordan. That is how much of a deity he has become because he won all the championships by himself and willed average players to hit wide open game-winning shots in the postseason. Never mind he played with two other HOF players, a nine-time European player of the year, one of the great three-point shooters of all-time and a head coach who ended up winning 11 NBA championships.

The problem with the NBA today is there so many teams and it has watered down the product with players that do not belong in the NBA.

I agree. And to get back to the premise of this thread, Lebron is not on Jordan's level yet. He needs to surpass Kobe first.

some of yall sound like a bunch of women in this thread. if you dont like lebron bc of the decision thats very broadlike. Do i think Lebron is better than Mike no. but if you compare where they are both in their careers its a fair comparision.

I have to agree with that.. there are a good bit of folk that really don't belong in that league..But most are on the bench..so it's not THAT bad...lol

Playground basketball rules yo... its as simple as that.

The 2 best players ALWAYS pick their team...not join on the same team and just beat up on scrubs.

Its like Trey Johnson & Brian Adams team up & decide to play against you and me. What kind of fun is that? This is what Lebron has done. He now has Dwade as a 2nd option. Or Dwade has him as a 2nd option. The problem is that Chris Bosh is not some regular dude. This dude can score at will just like them down low.

They aren't even breaking a sweat against the league. Barring injury...they are going to run through this league for atleast the next 4yrs to 5yrs. I'm not talking about the way the Bulls did it...I'm talking about easy sweeps, over and over, and over again. Its not going to be even entertaining to watch.

Do you guys realize what you are watching? This is like having 2 Kobe Bryant's from 3yrs ago on the same team. Envision that...now add a Power forward that can go for 30 & 10 when the 2 Kobe's are having a 'bad' night. lol. This is what this Heat team is man. Its a joke.

Brave,
I agreed with your earlier post about Jordan, but you're way over the top now. The Heat aint THAT superior. This year, or in the years to come, I don't think they will be just waltzing to title after title. Sure, they may win, but not with the ease you're saying. They go through stretches where they struggle to score. Heck, look at last night. Also, I disagree about Bosh being able to score "at will".

All I'm going to say is watch and see. They aren't even pushing themselves man.

As for Bosh...if your team has forced Dwade & Lebron into having a bad night...there is no way that dude guarding Bosh will stop him one on one. I don't think its a PF in the league that can guard him one on one. In those situations Bosh can & will score at will on your team. Bosh's weakness is his inability to pass out of the double team. The Heat counter that by forcing the issue with Wade & James...once you forget about him. He scores easily & has proven this year he will drop 30pts on you & get 10 rebounds. The Bulls have great low post defenders but they couldn't stop him because (the 2 young Kobe's) Wade & Lebron are top priority.

They are this superior & this is just their 1st year together...wait until they add some more pieces through the draft.

He's better than Kobe now... but so far his career isn't as good as Kobe's. Not putting down Kobe...that dude has put some miles on those legs. I consider Kobe one of the all-time greats.

Playground rules my azz... They must didn't play "winners" where you were from. You win and keep the court so get the best you can find. Plus this is for $$$ and the ring. Those cats (Magic, Bird, Michael) talk about what they wouldn't have done...maybe not, but then again if the rules were in place maybe so. Plus the "rivalries" ain't there with these guys like back then. Remember there were no fraternization and association due to World Games, Pan Am games, Olympics and such where these guys worked and practiced together all summer.

Kareem's response to Scottie
As soon as Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen said that LeBron James may be the greatest player to ever play the game, instead of Michael Jordan, who he called the greatest scorer, he created a national stir with fans and pundits analyzing his statement.

His Hall of Fame brethren are now joining the conversation, and the early results are showing that Pippen might be by himself in his claim.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar released a letter Tuesday saying he disagrees that James may be the greatest player of all time and Jordan is the greatest scorer of all time, while Isiah Thomas said the potential is there for James to match Jordan, but he's not sure that the Heat's superstar will pass Jordan.

He may be, but his body of work must reflect that. The next five years will dictate that.

look man  I don't have to make up anything or exaggerate anything when it comes to MJ. The dude was that Great. In case you forgot here's a couple of vids.

MJ did these things all season. Not just the playoffs but the entire 82 game schedules. Double teams, traps, fouls whatever...he still destroyed you. Consistently over the entire year. And this is the Old MJ...just regular games

You could sit there & watch all of the vids one after another. MJ was that great. I don't know how old you are but I ain't that old. I'm only 31. You being in Chicago should know better.

Even with all those videos you posted it still does not mean that LeBron or another cat won't come along and be better than Jordan one day. It's fine to consider it you know.

Besides, who is to say Wilt not better than Jordan. That cat was probably the most dominate player in NBA history. His first six years in the league he averaged 39 points and 24 boards. He was grabbing 18-19 boards a game when he was 35.

Jordan is not going to die if the question is asked. Basketball did not begin and end with Jordan. He's not one miracle away from entering sainthood where no one can touch the dude.

This was posted after game 1.
Now we have game 2 in the books.

Brave,
where you at?
