What is it with the Heat's inability to win close games against teams above. 500?

Of course LeBron misses. They ALL miss more than they make. Let's take Kobe Bryant for example, who many consider the best "closer in the game."

In the final 24 seconds of playoff games, Bryant makes just below 30 percent of game-tying or go-ahead shots.

Through 15 years of NBA data -- Bryant's entire career, regular season and playoffs -- and found that Bryant has attempted 115 shots in the final 24 seconds of a game in which the Lakers were tied or trailed by two or fewer points. He connected on 36, and missed 79 times.

LeBron makes it at a rate of 33 percent in the final seconds while taking 71 shots.

I just don't understand that criticism when it comes to LeBron in late game situations.

I remember against Detroit in playoffs a few years ago he was ripped for passing to a wide open Donyelle Marshall. Marshall was put in the game to take that shot if James was covered.

Earlier this season he passed to Eddie House, a historically good three-point shooter against OKC, he makes the shot and Miami wins.

Against Boston he passes to Mike Miller, another great three-point shooter who was wide open. Miller misses and the Heat lose. Then LeBron gets questioned for that decision.

Against Chicago and New York LeBron takes the shots at the end and just so happens to miss. He gets criticized for not passing the ball to Wade or a more proficient distance shooter.

I think LeBron just tries to make the right basketball play most of the time. He's always been that way. He is has been historically the only small forward to be in the Top 10 in both assists and points. With Cleveland the last two years he was the only non-guard in the Top 5 in both points and assists during playoffs.

Not without a championship, he hasn't.

"Besides"...like that ain't what folks grade NBA players on after their career is over. Esp, one of Lebron's caliber. Can't throw Lebron in the convo with the Jordan's and the Kobe's til he gets that. His hype warranted that.

I saw that report. That was over a 5 year period (03-08), not Kobe's career.

I think a lot of these teams despite their .500 average are showing people that they can compete with anyone and I think it is the fact that the Heat are a target "from hence now and forever" with the addition of Lebron so I knew going into the season that every team was going to be a "dog fight"!

Kobe played with Shaq in his prime and plays with Pau Gasol now, who just happens to be the most offensively gifted post player on the planet. LeBron didn't with a player near that caliber in Cleveland. These things don't exist in a vacuum. Granted, some criticism of LeBron is warranted, like the way he shut down the last 3 games of the Boston series, but simply saying he doesn't have ring while ignoring how horrible a team he played on in Cleveland is unfair.

Okay, so I'm looking at the NBA's top 50 greatest players list and two names stand out of players who are deemed the greatest but lack an NBA championship. So I guess they haven't proven themself either?

They aren't in the top 10 I'm sure.... Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing and Elgin Baylor didn't win titles.

Hence my point. I was speaking of Patrick Ewing and Karl Malone. Even though these guys are among the 50 greatest players, have no championships I guess according to some they haven't proven to be worthy NBA players.

They aren't considered "greatest" at their positions, though. Tim Duncan and Wilt/Hakeem/Russell/Moses Malone/Kareem all land ahead of those guys on any list.

I've been hearing a few "experts" suggest that Melo could be an equal or better than Lebron, if he actually tried. They say Melo just wants to score.

His offensive arsenal is probably the best in the sport. Dude has no problem scoring on anyone defending him. He actually played some defense the other night against the Heat.

Shaq didnt win until KOBE linked up with him. Lets get that clear. Kobe has won 2 rings without Shaq. The Cavs had the best record in the NBA last year and people on this same board was prisoners of the moment by saying the Cavs had the best team. When the cavs lost you guys started coming on here making excuses for lebron like you all ae doing now. Crowned the HEAT at the started of the season only to say they dont have enough now. You guys claim LEBRON is the best so he will be judge amongst NBA's best. This dude got D wade on his team and he still gets a pass smh.....
