In the SWAC, “Our limits have been reached,â€￾ says Braddy

Why pay all the cost of moving up if you gonna wait until a half dozen of the same teams you play now to move up with you. Why take on all the FBS expense just for the sake of being FBS if you gonna stay in the exact same football playing click................THE HBCU WORLD. HBCU's hold themselves back by always waiting on "others" to do stuff with them. It is like we talk all this "big dog talk" but are scared to explore stuff on our own. Why would I want JSU to move up to FBS just to see them play the same teams they play now.

You may as well stay at the FCS level or drop to D2 and reduce spending playing the same teams. This is one difference in PWCs and 99% of the HBCU's. PWCs are going to do what is best for them. HBCU's always trying to drag 3rd cousin twice removed from the family with them. We need to cut that crap out. Do what is best for your school and stop making plans for the other 9. Their plans is their job.

I think that is a horrible way to look at it. Yes, we may be playing half of the same schools but right now we are playing those schools with sorry players, sorry coaches, no TV deal, no sponsorships, no NOTHING. Athletics is about having money to spend. It's about making money to spend money. We can't progress without making money. To ME, there is big difference in a 1-AA JSU vs FAMU matchup and 1-A JSU vs 1-A FAMU match-up. Now it may in actuality be a sorry matchup but we won't know until we try. I personally think that if we try, in ten years we will see it was a wise decision. There are too many perks to being 1-A for us to sit on the sideline. We have ALL seen over the years how players shun JSU for USM and even more recently for Sunbelt Schools. Then we recruit a kid, he does not qualify for a SEC school so he signs with JSU only to end up going JUCO hoping to get into the SEC. Two years after JUCO,he never goes to JSU but signs with a lower tier 1-A school. I personally think we could get some quality athletes if we were 1-A and some better coaches.

And again, we can't expect to make it on our own right now but in 15 to 20 years maybe one or two of us would be welcomed into a majority conference. Right now, I bet the Southland would take JSU, Alcorn, SU and Grambling. The same would be true if we proved our worth at the 1-A level.

One more thing .... what makes us so different? Several schools have moved up into another conference at one time. While some of our schools might be able to survive for a while, we have to look at our fanbase. We don't get GREAT crowds when we play PWC OOC games now .... what do you think would happen if you have no HBCU's on your schedule?

Ask Tennessee State? If those three of four games were taken off, who would come to Memphis or Nashville? They know it. You do too.

Exactly.... but I want us to be clear.. we don't get great crowds when we play 1-AA PWC's. We break our necks to play 1-A PWCs. ULM is using Grambling to get people in the stands becasue Grambling has NO leverage. If GSU was 1-A, they would have to come to Grambling or at the very least Shreveport. I would not even mind being used in the beginning to get on solid ground. I am sure that if Uof H offered SU a 2 for 1 deal, SU would accept it. I don't see how we can lose here. What is the difference in being 1-A and broke and 1-AA and broke? At least in 1-A, you are enjoying the perks.

Not saying that MH at all! The money issue is something that no one can run from and is seriously a huge pothole in the road for many programs in this conference. I think the thoughts that are getting lost in translation however, is that we can not continue to stand pat and not plan to make a move just because we don't currently have all the resources in place to make it happen right now! No money is made by not dreaming, planning or by innovation!

Bruh, we have been standing pat for 30 years but actually we have done WORSE than stand pat. We have handed them the keys to the jeep and let them run over us. It's like slavery and we don't even see it. I get pissed watching FBS games and ALL I see is black dudes playing for white crowds who don't give a fugg about them. We sat there and WATCHED it happen and did nothing. Just like we sit here now watching and doing nothing. The very LEAST we can do is give our kids the CHANCE to play for us.

+1. Nothing like looking @ 110,000 screaming white people w/ painted faces in a mega-stadium while there are upwards of 17-19 black kids on the gridiron @ the same time battering each other and an all-white coaching staff, medical staff, referee staff, game-announce staff, et al. Used is NOT the word to describe it. :read:

No argument here from me!

If you guys think it would work out then go for it! Why waste your time here in the SWAC? If your athletic product would benefit by the move, by all means go for it! No use in being miserable with the way things are the way you see it!!! Deuces!!!

My question is, even if you do move up where are all of the fans going to come from? I mean changing a division isnt going to all of a sudden make the kids start leaving the USC's and Alabama's to come play for you. Ive only seen ONE exception to that and thats Boise State... in a state where basically they have no competition other than Idaho. Its not going to make 40K extra people decide they want to come watch your games all of a sudden either. So basically what you're going to have is an HBCU version of the Sunbelt where you have to whore your team out to the BCS schools 3-4 times a year to make your financial budget be in the black, the same classics and home attendance of pretty much the same thing of what it is now.

Another mistake. NONE OF US EXPECT TO GET A RECRUIT FROM BAMA AND USC UNLESS THEY PASS ON THE KID. But right now AlaState can't even get into a real battle with Troy State for a kid.

..and yes, you would have to whore out your team to BCS schools JUST LIKE WE DO NOW. You have some 1-AA teams playing two 1-A teams now. Heck Alcorn and SCState did that within the last two years. But the bottomline is while many may consider the Sunbelt weak, they have better athletes than we do and they get athletes based on the fact that they are 1-A.

We also don't expect to get 40K extra people. We have to crawl before we walk but a more attractive schedule (ie if AlaState can get a home game with Troy or some other regional 1-A), an overall season average of 21K is better than whay you have now of 11K. I would be happy if JSU was able to get a consistent 5-10 extra visiting fans to take our attendance average over 30K per game. That would me average for a 1-A team.

My whole point is we are like #22 out of 25 conferences right now. Moving up to 1-A might at least put us up to 13 or 14 and we can work to improve from there. We may never get above #14 but that better than spending your life at #22.

People.
WHO SAID JSU WAS GOING ANYWHERE.

This was a discussion about the future and why we should at least start reasearching the issue instead of sitting back like we have done since the 1970's, living off the past, wondering why every FCS school not designated HBCU, pass us by at light speed with in most cases, lesser facilities and less money in their athletic budgets.

They always said JSU GTFO, Damm JSU, etc.
Now that Braddy has bought the subject of leaving the SWAC up, mofo's don't know what to say now. One would think the others would be rooting for us to actually leave. :lmao:

I for one would root for JSU to make it in FBS if they decide to do so. Out of all the HBCU's I think they'd be in the best decision to do it.

1) They've got a big stadium
2) They've got good fan support
3) They've got a tradition rich program
4) They've got support in the local community
5) They've got a key geographic for the Sun Belt and should be able to further tap into those fertile mississippi junior college system

Can't believe I'm saying this but, "Go for it JSU and prove the haters wrong!"

when I talked about how the SWAC needed to drop the SWAC championship and go to the playoffs yall was on my a$$...my my how the tables have turned

You came late.
Me and a couple of other posters got our azzes handed to us years ago over this very thing. We gave up and just went along with the "no-playoff, they didn't play us back in the day" crowd. The only thing I worry about now is our SWAC games that count towards the title. OOC game are good when you win, but if we lose, why should we GAS. The powers that be got what they wanted back in 1999. Now everybody want to byotch and moan about how our teams are lack-luster as compared to the rest of FCS.

You right about how the tables have turned. I laugh everytime I see one of these threads now. Especially that "SWAC......Glory Days" thread.
