There is a reason for that. I'm not trying to belittle Louisiana but it is definately a cultural shock moving from certain east coast states to the deep south. Hell, Frazier left PV for NC yet he's from DC-Baltimore. Sometimes in life, there are just some things that money cannot buy. I'ma leave it at that.

I am sure that Grambling will find a new coach but make sure its someone who either has a connection with the school or honestly wants to be there.

Loyalty to a school is something else. I envy Southern University and Pete Richardson when he had SU on that wave. :tup:

So is Doug headed back to Gram? He talked about naming himself headcoach for the UFL team he GMs on profootballtalk.

Can we expect for coaches to be loyal to our SWAC schools nowadays i cant see it.......

In my era, the ONLY one that I think visibly and supportively showed loyalty was Pete Richardson. I don't know how all Jags feel about him since there appears to be a split even in their OWN loyalty towards him but one thing that NO ONE can deny is that Southern University <b>OWNED</b> the 1990s in and out of SWAC. :read: And he and his staff HAD them there and they kilt everybody along the way. :tup:
 
It's 100000 times easier to adjust to PV than to Grambling if your from the East Coast as Frazier and wife lived in the Houston suburbs which had everything they needed....

I think some may be mad as Broadway and other staff members got out of Grambling on their own accord sintead of someone telling them to leave...that meant Troy's tenure was pretty successful as his hires all moved on except Duckett

Hell no one told Broadway to stay in the town of Grambling or in Ruston. lmao. He's gone, it's time to hire another coach. No love lost. He did what what he was supposed to do. WIN.

Extend him with what? We're in a state-wide budget cut so the State wasn't gonna do it. That's where boosters step in and with boosters like me... tough luck. I/We need to do better and become booster and not busters.

There is no divide on that P. We all think Pete was loyal to SU and did a masterful job. The only divide was with folks saying it was time to change and those who said it was not time to change. But I think no SU Jag can deny Pete was loyal to us. But sometimes as you see even in the professional leagues. You can be somewhere to long and can get complacent. The key is when to know when it is time to retire or either move on. Pete is from the old school where coaches stayed around for as long as they could. These coaches like Frazier and such are younger and are still hungry for different opportunities that life presents them. Broadway is kind of in between. He aint that young, but he aint Pete's age either. So he may still look at it as he has enough years left for a different move which I guess turns out to be NC A&T.

I am sure even Heish at PV don't see himself being there for the rest of his days. And even if ole Stump starts winning at SU, I doubt he would be there for the long haul either. Times are different and with the money that is being thrown around these days........our coaches probably will not have much loyalty unless it is their alma mater.

Well that's what I mean. The Blue Bengal Association at JSU was giving Comegy 50K or something like that of his salary. I also didn't mean extend Broadway with a raise. Couldn't Gram extend his same contract? I mean like we did Pete for his last extension. He didn't get a raise. Just 3 more years. Is the State basically forcing Gram to not extend your coaches even at the same salaries? We all know Jindal don't care about any of our schools and want to merge folks or shut people down.

Yep... I still say we lost out on a good AD due to lack of vision and support from Administration. TM stays at Gram and the coaches would have been taken care of. We changed Presidents too late.

No, not what I meant. Extending the years wouldn't (shouldn't) have been a problem. No money to match the $250k (I'm told) that A&T offered (I'm told with help from a donor). Good for them... But personally, I wouldn't want to extend with a raise even if we had the money. I ain't ready to see Gram pay anyone $250 to play on the FCS level.

some don't understand JR...money can't buy happiness but there's so much more that the average message board person will ever know about that situation.......but good coaches will always be in demand so this should've been expected

Didn't GSU offer Doug $250?

ULS System President Sally Clausen offered Doug $250k... But remember, Doug was a hot commodity and had won 3 BC National Championships.

Of course IMHO, Broadway was not a Gram-style coach. His teams did not have the killer attitudes. Take no prisoners! That is the old SWAC style! Smash-mouth football! That was the J-State style under Carson and his successors! Every school in-conference and OOC, knew they had their hands full when they even thought about putting a SWAC team with attitude on the schedule. Even old Archie Cooley had folks whispering about not playing against MVSU back in the day and LAWD...nobody was ever happy going up against the Godfather and a nasty Brave defense!

I see this change as a good one for Gram. Broadway was too safe...too...East Coast.... Just choose wisely!!!
