Most Profitable College Football Teams

Blame the internet....LOL....I looked up their record before I posted. Maybe I should have gone to the school's website. I don't have a problem admitting when I am in error. It happens.

Wrong again.

Mississippi State is 8-4 this year and they are in a New Year's Day bowl game.

HBCU SIDs can't even keep the school website accurate and updated. Yet, you expect them to recruit some of the best athletes in the world when their job is not to recruit in the first place.

Ridiculous.

I hear what you are saying and yes I do. I also expect HBCU SIDs to keep the website accurate and updated. I know it does not happen but it is what I expect.

True, but it helps when you sellout a 85,000 - 100,000 stadium every home game. I bet a majority of those boosters salaries are comparable to ours, it's just they give back and they have many donors/members of booster club/foundations. Until we learn to give back and attend games we will never have a HBCU playing FBS football.

Jackson State has a booster club/foundation called "Tiger Fund", the yearly membership fee is $1000.00. I doubt if there are 50 members of this club.

If we can get 5,000 JSU alumni or boosters to join, that's $500,000.00 a year! Those who join have a "love" and "passion" for Jackson State.

That is something that is simple and easy to do. It doesn't take a lot of time. If they can't do that, how do you expect them to accomplish all of your other grand dreams and plans?

If they can't or won't then find someone who can and will. Why do we always settle for mediocrity?

A lot of what I am advocating is 'wanttodoitness'.....and yes, I dream. I believe we can do better....I know we can do better. It is about desire and wanting to be the best at what you do and not doing just enough to remain employed.

You guys can talk all you want about how HBCU's use to be and all that but when a high school senior visit a facility like this and then visits JSU how do u think he will choose...South Florida Football Office was a trailer less than 10 years ago now they are leaps and bounds ahead of HBCU schools.....until all of our schools get serious about gaining high enrollment and start bringing in more business funds into the Universities HBCUs will never be what is was in the 70's and 80's....if my child says dad I wanna attend Florida State over JSU....how can I argue that if Florida State is giving him a free education along with everything else......before we can ever become relevant again we need to upgrade HBCU's............

it starts at the top with administration...............

I hear you. It is like a lot of us think if we can't give big bucks then we won't give anything at all...not realizing that a lot of little money adds up to big money.

If that is the case as Lupe Fiasco said-SHUT IT DOWN. Due what the University of Miami did with its basketball team in 1971-1984. They hired a Ad, rebuild the arena and got a new coach.

I hear you. It is like a lot of us think if we can't give big bucks then we won't give anything at all...not realizing that a lot of little money adds up to big money.

Question how hard would it be if all HBCUs asked thier alum to give 1 dollar a month to the school or $12 a year? Every HBCU staffer does the same. The idea is every little bit helps. The key is raise enough money to where when teh Big 12 comes calling for SWAC teams to get their azz beaten in basketball. The SWAC can say NO and look for lower level D1 teams that they can run with or beat.

I hear you. It is like a lot of us think if we can't give big bucks then we won't give anything at all...not realizing that a lot of little money adds up to big money.

True statement up there^^^^^. We do need to upgrade. Better administrations and hire folks who know what they are doing regardless of race or gender. We also need to realize we don't have to give like the PWCs meaning one lump sum. Give in small increments. They add up. But we need to get a lot of folks to think like that. Even the PWCs take the small donations. They just have more folks who give. We have to get out of our mindset. If all you can give is 10 dollars a month then do so.

But like some folks have said, these kids grow up differently. They are not kids of the Civil Right Era and not kids who have been part of integration of these schools. They were born seeing black players all over these schools. They have not witnessed HBCU HOF players for the most part. Even the last great SWAC or HBCU players like Strahan, Aeneas Williams, McNair, Donald Driver and more recently Pro Bowl player like Robert Mathis are not on these kids radar as HBCU grads. These kids see all these PWC superstars and then what they do on the next level and get enamored. Then you have the facilities that entice them as well. Seeing these schools on TV every week don't hurt either. A lot of these kids go to school with white kids now anyway and they all mingle so they don't feel like its a big deal going to these PWCs. Especially the surburban school athletes. The Urban school athletes are more fooled to go to a PWC than the suburb kid. The suburb kid aint shocked at amenities like those kids from an urban HS who see all those nice things and get pressure from their family to go to the big time schools because their folks have no clue on the value of a HBCU education. All they see is dollar signs. Kids from the hood back in the day actually had more informed parents than they do now. You would think it would be the other way around. But when you have all these single black Moms struggling with multiple kids. They aint trying to send their kid to a HBCU. They think that is a step backwards. They are not thinking about their son getting a college degree. This is their chance for the bigtime and a way out the hood. And the ones who do think about the college education still think those schools are better than ours. I have talked to many kids and their parents over the years and they rather send their kid to a low level FBS school over taking a full ride to a school like the Naval Academy that can write their ticket forever. It is just our mindset. As long as money is involved with these big schools and they way they recruit. It will be tough to change the mindset. I don't worry about the surburban black kid so much. Because normally they are equipped to handle them other folks and their environment since they have exposed to them. Our HBCUs will have to change their strategy in recruiting not just athletes but regular students to attend our schools. The PWCs are snapping up these brilliant black kids from High School like no tomorrow. This where we have really lost the battle. They are giving out more scholly money to attract our best students.

HBCUs have to get out of the hook-up mentality, in-fighting amongst board members, protecting employees because of family, friend ties and blow the sucker up and get people who can work if they really intend to change the culture....

Can't think of an athletic department who has done that as a whole on our level....I don't mean changing coaches...I mean staffers as that's the backbone of the department....the games will go on, players will be available but great staff to run a game ain't easy to find on our level...

I could write more but you get the jist...

If Willowridge closes all they would do is merge it with Marshall and create the same school they fought to break up from 1992 to 1995.....not sure if FBISD wants to see that again as that's what the video I posted earlier showed...a bunch of minorities working together with power to dominate a school district across the board....we got too powerful in alot of areas as everyone knows FBISD's preference lies in the West End while Ridge has a Houston address...

as for Pearland....they have a hostage situation at a bank going on now

Pearland blew up too fast and its a straight shot for someone who needs to make some quick money.....all its streets go straight from South Park, Sunnyside and they're moving southward so what will happen?

The PWCs are snapping up these brilliant black kids from High School like no tomorrow. This where we have really lost the battle. They are giving out more scholly money to attract our best students.

Well the thing is many of those PWCs are already in the schools. The community colleges in Dallas have 2 college prep schools in DISD-Middle & Early College. A kid at those schools can have enough credit to be a second year college student at some colleges. SMU, TCU, Texas Women's University and even Ohio State have contracts with DISD to counsel or work with kids. If that kid is active in a program guess where most of them are at-a PWC.

We also have to change the enviroment of our black public schools. How do you sell a HBCU to a kid that went through HELL at a black high school? I mean name calling, verbal abuse, bullying, beatings and anything else you can think of at the hands of thier own people. If the worst thing they have to worry about a ta PWC is bineg called the N word and crosses burning in their dorm room. They will gladly take it.

Some of those suburban kids and even magent school kids are really hood kids using fake addresses to escape the hood schools. They are proving you give them a decent school enviroment and they can make it.

I like the way you think. I know SHSU has been sending my daughter stuff since she graduated. She has not given them a dime, to my knowledge, but they continue to send stuff asking for money.

Ive said it once and ill say it again, the ONLY way youre ever going to get those high quality black recruits again is if we go back to segregation or you move up to a BCS conference. Neither are likely to happen.

I hear you. It is like a lot of us think if we can't give big bucks then we won't give anything at all...not realizing that a lot of little money adds up to big money.

Most black folk have income but no wealth! They live paycheck to paycheck.

They spend too much money on consumer goods such as cars, clothes, jewelry and shoes; they don’t have any money left to give back to their alma mater.

I agree whole-heartedly.

In Texas though there has been a movement afoot to limit the number of "smart" minority kids that get into 'PWCs'. Those who graduate in the top 10% of their graduating class are guaranteed entre' to any public college or university in the state with a scholarship. A lot of folk were upset because their children who went to more prestigious high schools (for lack of a better term) were not being considered for scholarships to Texas, TX A&M and the like because they did not finish in the top 10% of their graduating class. So, if they wanted to attend Texas they would have to come out of pocket and many could not afford it.

I wasn't aware of this until now but The Texas Higher Education Opportunity Project (THEOP)....the official name ends today. I was wondering why the clamoring had died down. But those from depressed area high schools who graduate in the top 10% will no longer have this guarantee.

That's great speak w/ regards to HBCU "alumni" giving but in reality, 20-100 core alums actively and actually giving of themselves and their $$$$ won't get it done; hence the current state.

Seems to the same annual type speech w/ regards to support. Hopefully the message will make it out to the masses this go round.

Well, this is 2011 (in a few hours anyway)....maybe this is the year. If we all do our part and encourage others to do the same maybe it will happen in our lifetime.

I keep telling myself that every year in regards to the Cubs winning the World Series.

I agree with these statements as well. I KNOW I am addicted to watches and bracelets.

In addition to what you said I think we also need to give to the university or athletic department regardless of who is "in charge". I know that can be difficult, especially if we are passionate about how things are being run....but some how we have to look past that and do what we need to do.

While sending that message, send this one: Recruit and attempt to retain the BEST possible student.

Notice, I didn't say "white," "black," "mexican," "asian," "indian," et al student, just student w/out regards to race. All here are aware of HBCUs historically created mission but in the year 2011, I think some of that needs to be modified, just a lil' bit, if all are to continue to thrive (survive). (HBCUs) Can and should still endure to help those who are helpless but coupled w/ that ideology, I think it's in the best interests of all to target some who are the up and comers. :read: My eldest daughter graduated top 1% of her class in Ral/Dur, NC (lol, she was valed and it was expected over the yrs, considering). Parents are HBCU grads undergrad and mix of HBCU/PWCU grad schools. Guess how many HBCUs attempted to recruit her? ---------------> "0" I'm sure that 'other' school will appreciate her adding to their minority graduation rate. :smh:
