TSU vs PV basketball rematch

dude...trust me..PV was in worse shape than TSU...way worse shape....ask anyone who had suffer with that

Rimm was the 4th coach in five years, we did not offer full rides like people thought, (began offering more aid in 2003) recruiting suffered horribly due to personnel changes of 7 players a year, we had walk-on guards as our starters...we only had 1 full-time assistant until 2008 while TSU always had 3....Rimm got his head beat in for 2 years while Harvey had enough to get to the tournament along with Moreland.

Harvey dumped his staff from last year...that was his fault...he can do that....

Also...I grew up more on TSU than PV so I've seen the highs and lows of both...trust me...TSU has always been ahead of the basketball curve compared to PV...that 1998 NCAA bid was a fluke as TSU blew a 20-point lead...in 2003, we won because we had a good x and o's coach and some senior talent who could play...that was our highlights since the 60s while yall had NCAA bids, NBA talent, brand new arena, etc.

We finally have a coach who knows what to do to be successful in the SWAC and we have the things in place now to be successful....he rolled his sleeves and got dirty...

we basically fielded an intramural program then.....you just don't know

Yes I do know, who didn't? I had to get you away from playing games first. Going back and forth about who had it worse is for defeatist. My point simply is that T. Harvey walked into bad situation, and that given very recent changes he will have to produce. In the future I look forward to enjoying conversations about which team and program is the best regardless of the depths they climbed from.

But again, Harvey finished seventh in a "bad" situation after year 1...Rimm didn't sniff the tourney until his third year...even Moreland swept Rimm with a walk-on team

We haven't swept TSU in men's basketball in back to back years before 1981....the rivalry is at an all-time high now as you saw Rimm didn't back

In worse shape? I don't think so; certainly PV has had a rocky road from which to climb. The fact of the matter is the basketball program at Texas Southern was reduced from a program to just a team playing basketball. Remove the memory switch from selective mode and recall the horrendous A.D. we had just two years ago, and his movements with respect to the basketball program. He fired a Coach Ronnie Courtney during the summer, and named no one interim to even contact the kids that were returning or the kids that were recruited by Courtney. The kids were left in limbo until days before the fall semester. I recall a story where one of the recruits was at home constantly trying to get answers and constantly calling the A.D., but never got a returned phone call. As the semester started no coach had been named, nor was there an interim in place. The kids were literally left without any coaching staff until a week or so before Midnight Madness. That is when Coach Moreland stepped in at the last minute, after some alums successfully aborted an attempt by the A.D. to hire a loser coach named Paul Graham at the last minute. Coach Moreland did a yeoman's job with what he had to work with. T. Harvey stepped into a bad situation from the very start, but the truth is given the circumstances he stepped into he is doing a good job. Band fan what you were feebling describing is a situation that will bear future results and not immediate ones. The renovations to Texas Southern's basketball facility were just completed weeks ago. Three of the coaches on Harvey's staff were not on the staff last year, and as you know all to well Charles McClleland is just getting started. What can be said for certain though, is that T. Harvey has been given all the resources to run a good viable program and that their will be excuses to lean on for not winning consistently by the third year of contract. With all that said, I know you believe your job on this board is to piss people off, but please dispense with the games.

Well, I will say this much for you LAW DAWG, man, YOU HIT THE FLOOR RUNNING.

Oh, and Welcome to the Board.:clap:

The only reason Harvey made it to the tourny his first season was because he was able to bring in some good recruits at the last minute. You have to remember Moreland team had walk ons and football players in 2007-08. If you seen or knew what he has coming in next year you would be suprised to think the SWAC of the 2000s could bring mid major caliber players.

I admire u guys' loyalty to T. Harvey, bit to ta all of us on the outside looking in see str8 thru the smoke & mirrors that IS The Tony Harvey Show. Dude is ALL talk & really not that good of a coach. Recruiting better be his forte because X's & O's & mid-game adjustments damn sure aren't. He has carisma no doubt, but that means absolutely nothing. I honestly wonder what Charles thinks about him being the longterm solution at sTu.

This sounds like Johnie Cole

Alois Blackwells tenure, is equal to being without scholarships for 30 years. In fact we are still victim of his final two moves.

Our team in my opinion does not have the players to do what T. Harvey wants to do. Deandre Hall disappears in a half court offense as well as our other players. TSU is very athletic, however none of them are very good spot up shooters.

PV on the other hand has the best player in the SWAC in D Hugge and 2 little guards that are awesome.

Man who the you talking too (looking around)

However it'll be scary if he gets sum sense & get a shooter. Can u say penetrate-kick???

But damn recruiting with strategy, it's more fun to take as many ranked 6'5"-6'7" wing guys as possible from texashoops.com & bring sexy back to the SWAC.

Lemme stop... I've said too much... Lol

Last night was the first time since 98 that I have seen the "rivalry" part of our rivalry show up. The Dome atmosphere was decent. The CROWD was there, but there were only about 2 or 3 sections that were into it all night.

An I'm STILL crackin up at Cooper clicking on the announcer for saying "The Lady Panthers in a full court press" during the game....or the "The Panthers with a 13 point lead" when the score was 85-77.

At one point during the women's game, TSU was bringing the ball up the floor. PV was pressing. The PA Announcer announced "TSU bringing the ball up the floor, Lady Panthers pressing." Coach Cooper went nuts.

And during the men's game, when the score was 85-77, he announced "The Panthers with a 13 point lead...The DJ got on the mic and said, "That ain't 13 homeboy, that's 8!!!"

All in all, it was a great crowd and a good game. Nearly every conference game I have seen this year have come down to free throws. Who can make em and who can miss em. PV was 22-38. TSU was 9-21, including one player who shot a whopping 5-14 from the free throw line. I don't expect our squads or players to be 95% free throw shooters. But FTs are literally costing good teams victories.

This is the SWAC...bringing in those good-looking 6-7 players means nothing without a point guard and a shooter...we had the biggest team in the SWAC in 2007-08....didn't sniff the tournament....recruited a 5-8 guard and a 6-0 point guard the next year we win 13 games in conference :emlaugh:

Harvey adds Harrison Smith, the Kentucky guard and he may get get the kid from St. Louis and Kelley's nephew who are in Houston somewhere

but again, SWAC hours means alot....ask Alabama A&M about Mike Ford (Memphis signee)

Mike Ford never played basketball at Memphis (he would have been in the NBA if he would have).... he left Memphis after a week of school. Actually coming to AAMU probably hurt more than help... hanging around his high school friends (thugs)...messed up his basketball career.

I know...I put Memphis signee to let folks know that was a mid-major guy but he didn't tear the SWAC up for whatever reason...I don't even get excited until I see them hit the court and drop 20

your best SWAC guys are people who been through the system...in some cases, a JUCO can change things but in most cases, it's a freshman or an early transfer

Pv has the best player in the league dude are you serious? Garrison Johnson is easily the best player in this league...dropped 5 3's on valley in first half dropped 6 3's on alcorn lastnite..he is a pure basketball player and if Grant maxey was playing we wouldn't even be haven this discussion. Hugge is just the best in texas cause apparently you ahaven't the rest of the swac i also like the kid from bama state madadi or whatever and they guy from valley...the forward...

Hugee blocked 8 shots against Valley....hit them up for 20...dominated the paint in overtime...

but if you want to compare Alcorn....23 and 16

and I've seen ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the SWAC...have you? Did you see the TV game last weekend when Hugee came back in with 3 fouls in the 2nd half?

You're speaking to someone who has 9 whole posts tbf. :D That's why his commentary was iggggggggggggggggggg-nored. :retard:

And Hugee had how many points against jsu? Lets be honest Johnson is the best in the swac give credit where credit is due...YES i seen Hugee do bama state in...bama state post players suck...dude didn't look very good vs. jsu or is it we just have the best team in swac? Panther88 pv suck sorry bud. goodluck in baseball season maybe you will feel better by then....Hugee isnt very good and those lol and that lil midget guard isnt very good either...in fact Grambling's guard is better than him! Qualls...Hugee is good vs. little talent...Johnson is our swac's best player hands down...and our backup point guard would probably be better than any guard in the swac if he wasn't playing behind Rod melvin...

Is your "Johnson" the same guy who was ejected from the game vs PVAMU? Is this the same guy who pushed our Hugee down blatantly/intentionally? If so, he sucks like your commentary currently does, in the worst possible way. Sorry "bud." Better luck to YOU all in baseball. :retard:

Can't spell the word "basketball" correctly yet alone attempt to understand the game of basketball. :retard: Miss me w/ the rhetoric, guy.

Hugee would be a reserve at jsu and garrison Johnson would be a STAR at any swac school! PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!! We don't have to get ready for baseball season...We are running the swac in basketball right now...Do me a favor and just cheer on you all's girls team. Our girls suck so just enjoy beating our girls and blame Rimm for your boys losses...

BF... NOBODY in the SWAC could stop Michael Ford... he didnt "tear the SWAC up".... becasuse he was playing on a team with Joe Martin and Obbie Trotter... so of course points were going to be split.. He averaged 16 and was SWAC newcomer of the year in his only season at AAMU. Him, Joe and Obbie were ALL SWAC.
