What I think it will take for J-state to Hang with MS state..

The offensive and defensive lines to do their job. Period.

And, cut out the unnecessary shit (personal fouls, late hits, et al penalties :read: ). In other words, be more disciplined (speaking towards PV as well as BOTH of us were the 2 most penalized teams in the SWAC last year :| ).

Good luck JState and give'em pure hell!

Lets be real here... this is Mississippi State.... like the worst team in the best conference.. now yea they will win, but if JSU has a decent team it wont be ugly. If JSU loses this game big, they will have a below average season. I could understand if Bama, Florida or Georgia... but its Mississippi State.

Not necessarily. The mentallity of the coaching staff won't allow them to take this loss seriously.

Joke: If Get Ready shakes MSU's coaches hand then JSU wins!

Seriously: JSU just has to come into the game with Confidence and keep that intensity throughout the game. MSU is a the bottom of the SEC West, but they still play teams tough. JSU can't afford to have a lot of turn-overs.

I concur with both, but I would like to add that JSU needs to believe that the belong on the same field w/MS St. before they go into that stadium. If they can do that, then they could stand a chance.

Uuuh....none of that is true...we could lose 100-0 and still have a great season and still win the SWAC. Yall are terrible. When Gram loses 60-0 to Oklahoma State are you going to say they cant win the SWAC?

Kendrick ..... Any Given Saturday my friend. J-State can win if they play their A game and get some breaks. Will it probably happen? No. But, I sure hope the players or coaches don't have your mindset.

.

If I was a coach, there would be no I would say our team has no shot to win. That is crazy. But as an observer of the sport, it is not realistic for me to believe that the Tigers can beat MSU. Sure, App. State beat Michigan and Utah beat Alabama and Boise State beat Oklahama.

However, those teams were vastly talented compared to Jackson State. All three of those teams who pulled off the upset beat quality level FBS and FCS competition. Two of them went undefeated.

When was the last time Jackson State has done anything like that outside of the SWAC? I know all about the whole any given Saturday idea, but that rarely exists when it comes to an SEC team versus a SWAC team in football. In baseball, basketball and volleyball yes. But not in football.

Kendrick I can dig a man who can keep it real:winkgrin:

If I was a HC playing a FBS from a major conference, I'd play everybody...especially on defense. I'd try and keep them fresh and fast with instructions to hit like never before. No late hits, cheap shots, or that trash but just hard nosed, balls to the walls defensive hitting.

My pre-game speech would be simple... "Your effort in this game will greatly determine the extent of your playing time the rest of the season". I think our coaches allow the players to have the attitude "We can't really play with these guys..." Let them know that their job is to compete and mine is to help you "win" more plays than you lose. I won't concede anything as a coach and you don't concede anything as a player.

No where did I say anything about margin of victory, possible upset, any given saturday or any of that... I stated that I would focus on creating within my team the mindset that this is a game where we go out to compete and to try and win each play. One down at a time is how you want your guys to compete and to try and make the next play better than the last.

If your guys do that...you will have achieved victory, regardless of the score.

Going into this game, I don't want to hear or read about folks saying Comegy or someone else close to the team needs to give a rousing pre-game speech to get the troops fired up for this game. That is silly.

If you need a "win one for the Gipper" speech to tell the players how important the game is, why even show up to Starkville?

I am not saying players should not be excited about any game, but I never understood why a coach or players need that practice enacted before a big game in the regular season or postseason. If you don't know it is a big game before getting off the bus or plane, a two minute talk is not going to help.

Plus, once the game starts all that stuff really does not matter. I remember Nathan Vasher of the Bears said Lovie Smith gave one of the best pre-game speeches he ever heard the night before they played the Colts in the Super Bowl. He said guys were really emotional and fired up ready to play.

But about 30 hours later the Colts had the trophy.

The key to winning is just believing in your ability and game plan and some speech.

I always thought pregame speeches were overrated... my high school coach pretty much let us hang out prior to the game, until 45 minutes before. Then he'd pass thru the gym where we were playing cards, checkers, chilling and simply let us know it was time to get dressed (fully).

We'd spend the time getting our minds right and he'd walk in and say..."We'll their here...Let's go!" I played two years...we were something like 23-2 overall during that time.

Impressive.

This is the way I look at it. SU played Houston last year and lost 55-3. JSU is better than Southern and MSU is better than Houston so the score will be 25-33-JSU

This has got to be TP cause he thinks like this,

Didn't jsu lose to SU last year ?....... SMH

Our high school baseball coach was a Chicago police officer. He had a 200-79 record in eight years, and we were routinely one of the lone all black high schools to be ranked in the state. Our guys did not come from the suburbs or had access to the greatest of training when it came to facilities and equipment either. We all came straight from the South Side of Chicago.

During that time our football team was 87-134.

We know PV is undisciplined.

Thank You. Using his logic, shouldn't a better Mississippi State team knock the holy hell out of a J-State team that he thought was better, but LOST to that team who fell 55-3?

To Kendrick, I understand your thoughts, but maybe I'm used to thinking as a player instead of a fan. I don't give a damn who it is .... I always believe I can win and that's how I want my team and my fans to be, if I was a coach.

As a fan of baseball, I would think you would understand that better than anyone.

Anything can happen on any gving Saturday. If you're going to beat a team like this, the season opener is the best time to catch them. I doubt if State opens their playbook very much because their next game is a SEC West encounter with Auburn.

My guess is Mississippi State by at least 21. As bad as State appears to be in the SEC, don't be fooled. They are still talented compared to most schools in the FCS division and quite a few in the FBS. Jackson State is highly penalized and not discipline. Unless something has changed, this will not help them. If this game is called like I've seen these type of match ups called, it too will hurt J-State....
