The biggest basketball game for the SWAC since Southern upset GA. Tech. If B. STATE wins, the world will look at the SWAC conference differently. If B. STATE cannot pull off the victory, the NCAAA committee is think they were justified in their thought pattern. B. State make us proud!

Morehead State (19-15) vs. Alabama State (22-9), 7:30 p.m. EDT

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- Neither Alabama State nor Morehead State has been to the NCAA tournament recently. But Alabama State's five-year absence pales to that of Morehead State, which hasn't played in the tourney for a quarter century.

"It makes it very special," Morehead State coach Donnie Tyndall said Monday.

The two teams meet Tuesday in the opening round of the tournament in Dayton for the right to take on top-seeded Louisville on Friday.

The school from Morehead, Ky., is making its first tournament appearance since 1984, when it defeated North Carolina A&T only to lose to Louisville in the second round.

"When I took over three years ago, I feel the community had kind of lost touch with the basketball program." said Tyndall.

The team has since actively sought to get the students more involved, meeting and greeting them at the student union on game days.

LOL Don't overstate what it is. It's no bigger than Valley's game against UCLA last year, or whoever wins the conference next year. It'll take a lot more than one win in the play-in game (still something the SWAC has yet to do) to change the perception of the SWAC.

Yep, agree 100 percent. Does anyone remembers who won the play-in game last season?

It wasn't Coppin State who played in it last year.

the world will look at the SWAC conference differently.

LOL takes more than wining a play in game for that. If they beat Louiville, then the SWAC can brag and the rest of the counrty will scream dang since 90% of the office pool brackets would have gone to heck.

I expect a win in the play-in game, but it won't help much because the seeding is based on RPI and SOS and our RPI takes a beating when we go on the money tours every year. Alabama State needs Fitch to step up like he did against Jackson State. Go get'em ASU.

Many SWAC fans don't realize that this is a good thing for Bama St and the SWAC. The SWAC use to be known for fighting it out in the first round of the tournament. The conference was much better even in the 90's. The SWAC hasn't won in the tournament since Southern whipped Georgia Tech in 93. The next year, TSU lost to #2 Duke by 10. And then in 95, TSU almost upset a final four team/#2 Arkansas 79-78. Now, the SWAC is known for losing without a fight. Bama St has a chance at winning an official tournament game and hopefully make some noise against the #1 seed. I wish them well and don't see them losing to Morehead St. Go Bama St!

I never did like this play-in game. If the 16th seed beats you...get over it.

Do ya thang Bama St.

Not me! :tdown::kaioken::upset::mad:

That's something to keep "Coppin State 1997" from happening again.

I'm not for it either, letting the number 1 team rest while the number 64 and 65 teams play 2 days before having to play the number 1 team.

I'm just wondering how many of you are in favor of the play-in game?

...I dont understand the purpose if it.

To me, its like you playin' to make the final field of teams. Does the NCAA have one to many teams in the Tourny? I dont like this play in game BS.

"Snake"

Yeah, that makes no since. No d@m chance.

I think the larger universities put pressure on the NCAA to prevent "the HBCU's or smaller schools" from upsetting the #1 or #2 seeds. Once you win your conference tourney, it should be automatic...No play in game. You know?

Its some bullschitt!

We can't control whether the NCAA places us in the opening round game, but what we (the SWAC) can control is our play/scheduling during the season.

Also, the SWAC needs to adjust its scheduling to move up the SWAC tourney a week earlier.
ASU just finished 3 games over last wknd. Won the championship Saturday night. Got the bid Sunday. Went to Dayton on Monday. Practice Monday night. Play on Tuesday.
