PV we REALLY need you tonight. Thanks in advance!!!

Do you really thing that PV will be in the nail in the coffin for your coach? You dont think he will get another season?

Olde Hornet, Dahill asked the same from us on Saturday night. I think he's looking at the entire body of work of the 2008-2009 season (or past couple seasons) as his outlook on Coach Pettway.

By the way, we need to beat you guys to move us out of 8th place so we won't have to meet up with y'all in the first round.

I think we need to win to lock up first place. :)

the byline stipulates 2 alabama teams need to be in the tournament for attendance...I smell Trant scoring 60 on Thursday :emlaugh:

It's a done deal. Congrats on the regular season title!

Urrrrraaaaaaa HILL? I'm not too sure. What I saw from Bama A&M (personnel) impressed upon me. :) I'm not sure we have an answer for the bigs you guys have + the physicality that's inconsistent w/ calls vs PV, for whatever reason.

Pettaway: Skid leaves tourney berth in peril

Reaching the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament used to be a given for Alabama A&M, which advanced there its first five years in the league and won the title in 2005.

Since then, not only has A&M failed to win a game in the tournament, the Bulldogs have had a hard time getting there.

After Saturday night's 77-71 home loss to Texas Southern, A&M is in danger of missing the tournament for the second time in three years.

"We've made it hard on ourselves," coach Vann Pettaway said.

A&M sits in eighth place with three games to play. The top eight teams advance to tournament in Birmingham on March 11-14.

The Bulldogs (7-16, 5-10) host Prairie View (13-15, 9-6) tonight in their final home game. Tipoff is 7:30.

Prior to the Texas Southern loss, Pettaway said his team needed two wins to secure a postseason berth. That hasn't changed.

A&M outlasted Prairie View a month ago 77-73 in overtime in Texas, but the Panthers are currently in fourth place and are 4-4 on the road in league play. The Bulldogs are just 6-6 at home this season, including 4-4 in SWAC games.

"We're in a must-win situation," said Pettaway, whose team has lost five straight games. "If we don't win, we've got to have other teams help us."

A&M closes the regular season at Grambling on Thursday and at Jackson State on Saturday.

Grambling (6-20, 4-11) and Alcorn State (6-23, 4-12) trail A&M in the standings. The Tigers have lost six straight games, while the Braves have lost four of their last five.

Despite all of that, first and foremost on Pettaway's mind is Prairie View.

"We've got to do whatever is necessary to win the game," he said. "We've got to be ready to battle for 40 minutes."

The Bulldogs will be without center John Smith tonight. Smith was ejected against Texas Southern after being whistled for his second technical foul with 14:21 left in the game.

"That's going to make it tough," Pettaway said, "but it's something we're going to have to fight through if we want to make the tournament."

PV men lost a 16 point lead to go down 76-75 but they stayed the ship to win 82-80 over AAMU.

THANK YOU PV!!!! :).... EVERYTHING is falling into place.

Pettaway made another dumb call.... called a timeout with about 10 seconds left AAMU down by 2..... sets up an in bound play under the goal and draws up a ALLEY UP inbound play... WTF. A play that has about a 20% chance to work. I dont know if I can thank PV or Pettaway.... neverthless THANKS!!! HOPEFULLY that was the last time I have to see a Pettaway coached team in person again.

3108 in attendance.. nice. That's the highest I can remember for UAPB game.

It was a great game even though we lost. Our players just had "butter fingers" last night, right up under the goal when they recieved the pass but some could not handle it.

Jackson State in my opinion is the best when it comes to execution. They are quick, when I say quick I mean really, really quick. They were the quickest of all the teams in the SWAC that came into the HYPER. They can really bounce off the floor too when it comes to second chance shots.

Again even though my school, lost the officiating was good. Like I said in an earlier thread, when the cameras are on...the officiating improves for some reason. lol.

the swac uses it's most experienced officiating crews for it's televison games. doesn't always help though... lol... but most of the time the tv games are much better officiated.
