Langston University guard Orlando Thomas is getting his opportunity on an NBA stage.
The standout HBCU hooper has been added to the Detroit Pistons’ NBA Summer League roster, according to a report from Mia Berry of Andscape, marking a significant step forward for one of the NAIA’s most productive guards this past season.
Thomas earned NAIA Second Team All-American honors after leading Langston to a 2026 national championship game appearance.
The dynamic guard averaged 15.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game, while shooting an efficient 42.3 percent from three-point range—numbers that helped solidify his reputation as both a scorer and perimeter threat.

His addition to Detroit’s Summer League squad places him among a growing list of HBCU and small-college prospects earning professional looks through strong postseason performances and consistent production. For Thomas, the opportunity represents a chance to showcase his skill set—particularly his shooting and versatility—against NBA-level competition.
While Summer League rosters are often fluid and do not guarantee a contract, the exposure provides a critical proving ground for players seeking to earn training camp invites, G League opportunities, or two-way deals.
