UPDATE: Zeon Chriss, who was believed to be on the verge of committing to Southern University, has reportedly withdrawn from the agreement.

Chriss, who played quarterback at Louisiana and most recently Houston, is now headed to Tulane, according to a report by CBS Sports.

Earlier this week, reports emerged that the 6-foot-3, 210-pound FBS signal caller was expected to transfer to Southern to play for first-year coach Marshall Faulk.

Chriss originally announced he was entering the portal on Dec. 31 after playing two years with the Cougars. He has one year of college eligibility remaining. Hours after it was reported Chriss might be headed to Southern, Jaguars quarterback Jalen Woods entered the transfer portal.

Our previous story about Chriss can be found below:

Former Houston quarterback Zeon Chriss is expected to transfer to Southern University to play under first-time head coach Marshall Faulk, according to a report from CBS Sports.

Chriss, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound Baton Rouge native, entered the transfer portal on Dec. 31 after two seasons with the Cougars. He has one year of college eligibility remaining.

A former three-star Louisiana high school prospect, Chriss began his college career at Louisiana in 2022, redshirting his true freshman season. In 2023, he appeared in eight games for the Ragin’ Cajuns, throwing for 1,222 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 66.7% of his passes. He added 492 rushing yards and six scores on the ground.

Zeon Chriss at Houston

After transferring to Houston, Chriss appeared in 17 games over two seasons. In 2024, he started seven times and played in 11 contests, completing 83 of 130 passes for 824 yards, four touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also rushed for 388 yards and four touchdowns on 114 carries.

Last fall, he played in six games and posted 108 passing yards with one touchdown and one interception, while rushing 12 times for 79 yards.

Across his college career, Chriss has passed for 2,263 yards and 16 touchdowns while rushing for 10 more in 29 games.

What Zeon Chriss adds to Southern QB room

If the commitment is finalized, Chriss would join a Southern quarterback room that returns all of last season’s players but struggled to find consistency throughout a 2-10 campaign.

Ashton Strother, a Coahoma Community College transfer, and former Jackson State signal-caller Cam’Ron McCoy split most of the starts last season. Projected starter Jalen Woods suffered a concussion in Week 2 and did not play the rest of the season.
