Prairie View guard Tai’Reon Joseph cemented his status as one of college basketball’s most electrifying scorers.

The Baton Rouge native poured in a career-high 34 points on Monday night in a 104-90 loss to LSU.

“He’s probably been the best kept secret in college basketball,” said Panthers coach Byron Smith said after the game about the HBCU player. “I think he’s the 10th, 11th, 12th leading scorer in the country. He can play a lot of places. We are fortunate to have him.”

Joseph, who averages 22.2 points per game, displayed a shot-making repertoire that was nothing short of spectacular. Whether it was step-back jumpers, deep three-pointers, or smooth finishes at the rim, the graduate student seemed unstoppable as Prairie View built a 56-51 lead at one point.

“I thought he did a good job,” Smith said. “I thought he kind of got away from himself tonight with a little bit of talking way too much. He’s a heck of a player and heck of a talent. I’m really proud of him to come home to Baton Rouge and have a performance like this.”

Joseph wasn’t alone in putting on a show. Backcourt partner Dontae Horne complemented him with 24 points and impressed LSU coach Matt McMahon.

“The shot making from (Tai’Reon) Joseph and (Dontae) Horne was just really special,” McMahon said. “You’ll see those highlight tapes going out to professional agents for years to come—they were terrific.”
