The tragic death of Tennessee State football player Chazan Page blindsided his family, friends and teammates.
But his last moment of life was one of heroism.
Page sacrificed his life to save his girlfriend, pushing her out of the path of the car that was barreling down on them, according to the woman.
Jayda Jernigan, Page’s girlfriend, speaking to FOX-17 in Nashville detailed what happened.
“It happened so fast. He, like, pushed me out of the way and he got the brunt of it all.”
Page was walking Jernigan and other friends to their vehicle as they were crossing Gallatin Pike near Marion Avenue early Sunday morning in Nashville when the fatal incident occurred.
Jernigan described that the car involved was dark red or possibly black.
“A car was going probably like 100 miles an hour down the street. We were walking, but I was on the side where the car was,” she said.
“He just made sure everybody was straight, Jernigan said of her boyfriend of over a year. “If I was hungry, he would take me to go get food. If I needed something from the store [he would go].”
Chazan’s father, Rico Page, said that his son “always wanted to help people.”
“He always wanted to be a physical therapist. That was his thing he always wanted to help people,” Page said.
Page, the starting center on the football team, was just six classes shy of graduation before his death.
