Missouri, champions of the Big 12, was considered a No. 1 seed playing in the cloak of a No. 2 seed. This team had Final Four written all over it.
Norfolk State on the other hand was making its first trip to the NCAA tournament. They had never beaten a ranked team since joining Division 1 and were prohibited underdogs against a very talented Tigers team.
Additionally, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference was 3-29 all-time in the NCAAs — their last win coming in 2004 when Florida A&M beat Lehigh 72-57 in the play-in game.
