WICHITA, KANSAS — The Southern Lady Jaguars ended a three-game road trip with a heartbreaking loss to Wichita State on Friday night 57-53 from Charles Koch Arena.
Sophomore guard Genovea Johnson continues to make her presence known for the Lady Jaguars, as she leads SU in scoring for the third straight game finishing with 23 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Junior guard Amani Mcwain added 14 points and four rebounds in twenty-nine minutes of play.
“I thought our kids played extremely hard tonight and did a much better job executing against a zone defense. The unfortunate thing was we didn’t knock down our open shots. Once again Genovea Johnson had to carry us offensively, but we will need some of the others to step up and help her with the scoring load. We’re going to take off a couple of days and get back to work on Monday after this long road trip”, said Head Coach Carlos Funchess.

Southern shot 31 percent for the game (17-54) and 20 percent from behind the arc (5-25). SU shot 70 percent from the charity stripe finishing (14-20).
Wichita State was led by DJ McCarty and Seraphine Bastin with eleven points each. Asia Strong chipped in ten points and four rebounds.
