For the past six seasons, Alcorn State’s football program has successfully remained atop the SWAC’s East Division with as many divisional titles. Those six divisional titles also include four conference championships.

But with the recent news of the program’s plans to migrate from the East to the West Division, effective the 2021-22 calendar year, questions have arisen regarding the program’s potential to maintain its championship ways.

On Thursday, HBCU Sports posed one of those questions on Twitter by asking, “Does the path to a SWAC championship get easier or harder for Alcorn with a move to the Western Division?”

Does the path to a SWAC championship get easier or harder for Alcorn with a move to the Western Division?

— HBCU Sports (@HBCUSports) September 3, 2020

Below are direct responses to our question:

Definitely tougher! With Alcorn, the West now has the 4 best teams in the SWAC the last 15 years. No team in the West will go undefeated. The East will now be owned by FAMU/BCC until JSU is able to turn the corner

— Jag Voice (@JagVoice) September 4, 2020

There’s a lot more at stake for them in the west so it’s going to be tougher for sure.

— Dae Rodriguez?? (@Bym_sports) September 4, 2020

I think it harder because it is hard to come out of the west with more than one loss, but then again they so play the same west teams but more at stake now. Big question, will the east rep the SWAC in the CB anytime soon?

Neither

— Musicboi (@Singerboy8) September 3, 2020

It don’t matter. It’s gone be an overall better path to the Swac Championship. Go Braves!!!

— TUT (@keviet29) September 4, 2020

No change because they have been playing the top teams in the West every year anyway.
