GRAMBLING—The Grambling State Lady Tigers basketball program have picked up two key acquisitions for the 2011-2012 basketball season in Savannah Carter and Cierra Ceazer.
Lauded as one of the top athletes in the nation Carter is rated in the top 100 by ESPN Hoop Girls. She is the #19th rated point guard in the country and rated the 2nd best player in the state of Oklahoma. She was recruited by Tennessee, Arkansas, Penn State and UCLA among others. The 5-8 guard from Tulsa Memorial High School as a freshman had her first triple double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals. Her junior year she averaged 16 points and six rebounds per game was named Premier Basketball All- American as well as selected to the Tulsa World All-City and All-State First Team.
“Savannah is an amazing point guard that will have a chance to really put her stamp on Grambling State University Women’s Basketball,” said GSU Head Coach Donnita Rogers. “She is the highest rated guard out of high school that has ever been signed to one of my programs.”
Ceazer is a 5-11 athletic machine with a ton of talent from Shawnee Heights High School in Topeka, Kansas where she is a highly acclaimed three-sport athlete also excelling in track and field and volleyball. During her sophomore and junior years in basketball she led her team to back to back state tournament appearances and was a First Team All City selection both years. In volleyball, her junior year, she was named First Team All-City and finished with a total of 260 kills and 60 blocks. In track her sophomore year she set the school record in the triple jump, 4×100 and 4×200 relay while winning a team state championship.
Cierra is also a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Topeka and is very involved in the Wednesday night youth group. She was inducted into the Shawnee Heights Chapter of the National Honor Society in 2010 and has been a member of her high school orchestra for four years playing the violin.
“Cierra is the female version of Jim Thorpe, she hasn’t faced a sport that she couldn’t conquer. She not only participates, she dominates,” said Rogers.
