Injured Tennessee State linebacker Christion Abercrombie, who has been hospitalized since collapsing during a game, is leaving the Nashville hospital where he’s been receiving treatment for the last month.
Tennessee State announced in a statement Tuesday that Abercrombie is expected to be discharged from Vanderbilt University Medical Center on Wednesday.
He is expected to be transported to the Shepard Center in Atlanta, a hospital that specializes in brain rehabilitation.
“We thank everyone for their love, support and prayers,” Stacie Abercrombie said in a statement.
Abercrombie has been breathing on his own for the last few days, the school said.
Abercrombie was previously listed in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center since Sept. 29.
TSU head coach Rod Reed described the news as “a miracle.”
“This shows the power of God,” said Reed. “This, in my opinion, is a miracle that he is being discharged after such a traumatic experience. We’re looking forward to a speedy recovery.”
